To ask you how you get rid of upper lip hair?!

Over the last few years the hairs on the corners of my upper lip have got darker and more noticeable and I do really need to do something about them!

I’ve looked up the best ways to remove/conceal but there seems to be drawbacks to all of them. They say shaving doesn’t actually make the hair thicker it’s just the angle but I 100% do not trust that and I don’t want to have to do it every day and get stubble! Maybe waxing? Laser hair removal?

Help!!

Whatever you do, do not shave.
Waxing works quite well.
Laser removal is good, but expensive and slow.

Chocolateismylovelife · 29/06/2024 10:00

I pluck, and have been doing so for years so it no longer hurts.

waxing requires growing the hair long enough.

if I could afford laser- I would definitely do it!!!

magnoliablooms · 29/06/2024 10:01

Threading is the answer

DancesWithBadgers · 29/06/2024 10:03

Also noticed this, the joys of getting older! I’ve used veet and jolen hair removal cream for facial hair - veet does not work as well on me, does not remove it all and if I leave it too long gives me a red mark, jolen worked well no red marks, it has a thing you put on first to protect the skin a bit more. Lasts for a good three to four weeks. If any mad hairs happen (like those long chin ones that turn up out of nowhere) I pluck them until I want to brave the hair removal cream again!

PeloMom · 29/06/2024 10:04

Waxing is great. Boots sells home waxing kits that work wonders

Comedycook · 29/06/2024 10:04

I buy facial waxing strips and do it myself. I have in the past got it threaded.

Do not shave!

Circumferences · 29/06/2024 10:04

I pluck the lip hair, but only the most noticeable ones, I leave the fairer softer ones.

Yeh I would also get Laser removal. It's the only guaranteed method to get a hairless area.

I was actually looking at a home laser removal handset for (cough) another area.... So that's an option.

Didimum · 29/06/2024 10:06

I get bad reactions to threading and waxing which always results in clusters of whiteheads. I just pluck.

LuckysDadsHat · 29/06/2024 10:07

Threading, and if desperate (covid times this was invaluable) dermaplaning.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/06/2024 10:07

Flawless Touch , works like a charm.

Notthatcatagain · 29/06/2024 10:08

I had quite a dark shadow and had mine lasered nearly 20 years ago, I had 3 or 4 sessions and they've never come back. I get the odd one now and then and either my eyebrow lady does them or I pluck. Laser only really works well on dark hair.

StikItToTheMan · 29/06/2024 10:09

I've waxed my upper lip for about ten years now.

I buy the facial waxing strips. Get a strip, warm it in your hands, stick it to your lip one side, pull the skin taught and pull. Repeat the other side, rub some baby oil on to remove excess wax, done.

It works perfectly, takes me less than five minutes and is so quick and easy. And costs next to nothing, a pack of 12 wax strips for a fiver lasts 6-8 months. I wax every 4-6 weeks. I usually do it right before bed and any redness is gone by morning.

TeenLifeMum · 29/06/2024 10:09

I’m hoping you buy an ipl thingy but need to save for it. The dark face hairs are my main reason. Currently I pluck and use mini razor thing made for that - flawless touch.

CeruleanDive · 29/06/2024 10:09

Don't you have to shave first for laser?

QuestionableMouse · 29/06/2024 10:10

Eyebrow razors, plucking and IPL.

I have PCOS and have a lot of thick dark facial and this combination works brilliantly.

You have to shave before doing IPL anyway, and then I pluck any pokey hairs.

Lippylemon · 29/06/2024 10:10

Message received on shaving, I won’t do it! I would do laser but don’t know about costs and if the hairs are dark enough

Veet!

CaveMum · 29/06/2024 10:12

I have dark hair and PCOS - a delightful combination. Left to my own devices I'm sure I would look like a cross between a member of Village People and a Gallagher brother!

As it is I get my eyebrows and top lip threaded every 3/4 weeks and tweeze any very noticeable stray hairs in between. I've had it done for years and it really does make a difference in terms of regrowth - I used to have to go every 2 weeks.

gingercat02 · 29/06/2024 10:12

Facial head of my epilator. 30 seconds of pain done!

DancingNotDrowning · 29/06/2024 10:13

Spiral hair remover - easier than threading, no mess, works on super short hairs. About £5 from Amazon

Don't you have to shave first for laser?

Yes. You should be told if derma planning is enough before, at your pre treatment assessment. They do a patch test on your ankle.
I've found superdrugs own hair remover suits me the best and is cheaper than the brands.

ForForToo · 29/06/2024 10:15

I’ve done it all. Threading, plucking, waxing.

I now just dermaplane it off, which I suppose is essentially shaving. It’s quick, effective and not painful at all. I don’t get any ‘stubble’ and it doesn’t grow back thicker. I think that’s a myth.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/06/2024 10:16

I used to have sugaring done at the local salon but after moving house, there's no salon nearby now. I've been using the home waxing strips that you warm in your hands.

They're pretty good but not as good as having someone do it for you and catching all the stragglers. I can't justify spending around £10 a month on it plus all the travel and time to a salon. It's about £4 a box for the home kits and all you need afterwards is some baby oil to take off the excess wax and moisturise the skin.

Like @StikItToTheMan, I do it at night so the redness fades overnight.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 29/06/2024 10:20

Does anyone use the Braun FaceSpa Facial Epilator? I am wondering about getting one.

Dallasdays · 29/06/2024 10:20

Dermaplaning is shaving! What home wax strips do people recommend?
