To ask you how you get rid of upper lip hair?!

Over the last few years the hairs on the corners of my upper lip have got darker and more noticeable and I do really need to do something about them!

I’ve looked up the best ways to remove/conceal but there seems to be drawbacks to all of them. They say shaving doesn’t actually make the hair thicker it’s just the angle but I 100% do not trust that and I don’t want to have to do it every day and get stubble! Maybe waxing? Laser hair removal?

Help!!

Noooo, defo don't shave. You'll always have stubble!

I use the little facial wax strips about once every couple of weeks and then pluck random stray hairs in-between times. I've got tweezers in the car as well as in my bag and at home as I often find random 'witchy' hairs sprouting. 😜

Sunlight makes no difference

sunlight makes ALL the difference. suddenly that near invisible fuzz you can just about see in the bathroom mirror becomes a highlighted disco ball of hair, sparkling like diamonds in the summer sun.
And that’s front on.
Turn to the side and it like a full on corn field with little stems rippling in the breeze….

Bikini line hair removal cream

MotherFeministWoman · 29/06/2024 11:39

I shave mine, makes no difference to the thickness

SD1978 · 29/06/2024 11:40

Waxing- can cause lumps/ irritation if not done regularly. I'd go laser personally

Yup

Threading! I go monthly. I use a little electric shaver in between, think it's called Flawless now from Boots, mine was from JML years ago. I do plan to get laser eventually though.

Waitingfordoggo · 29/06/2024 11:45

I’ve got one of those little electronic face shavers. No, I don’t get stubble. The hair grows back as it was before, no thicker.

I can’t use wax- even the sensitive face ones result in angry red skin for days as well as sores/whiteheads.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 29/06/2024 11:46

Long term the best results are ipl/laser

You get the best finish from threading, but it hurts like a bitch

I've moved recently and haven't found anyone who does threading so I go to a salon for wax and it's OK but doesn't remove the peach fuzz

In emergencies I've used one of those spring hair removers but it gives me spots

Sunlight makes no difference. I bleach it ever few months. A lot more time between having to pluck my eyebrows!

You can really see the hair in the sunlight though. Take a photo side on when it's sunny and you will see what I mean. I pluck with tweezers as there are a couple of hairs that are dark/ thick and grow quickly.

So what? Women have facial hair. It's natural. We don't have to remove it.

Georgie743 · 29/06/2024 11:53

Laser. Get a package when on sale and it's not crazy expensive. I had about 6 sessions 7 years ago, and only get the odd dark hair (like 1 a month) that I just pluck. and I'm pale with dark hair and PCOS.

Yes like the rest of the very light hair on my face…on a lot of women’s faces. If you don’t like that then fine but to think it doesn’t make sense to bleach is projecting your own insecurities onto others…

The thread is How do you get rid of upper lip hair.

@PeonySeasons absolutely and if you don’t want to remove it I’ll be the first person to say don’t. But this thread is literally titled “how to get rid of upper lip hair”
which rather implies that - as a minimum - the poster would like to know how to reduce the appearance of her facial hair, if not you know, actually remove it.

providing a “solution” which actually serves to highlight the appearance of upper lip hair rather than remove it is somewhat unhelpful 🤷‍♀️

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 29/06/2024 12:12

I bought a braun IPL device, 3 treatments in and it has worked brilliantly. Wouldn't be without it now, you do have to have the right skin/hair colour combination though.

YouWouldntKnowWhatIMean · 29/06/2024 12:20

I've had this since....forever! I've tried waxing, plucking, threading and epilating. I now use one of those little face shavers. They work really well, are cheap and painless! They don't make it any worse. I also use it on my eyebrows and I've found it so much easier to keep on top of it all rather than waxing/ threading etc which require waiting for the hair to get to a certain length, booking appointments, proper aftercare or I get horrible rashes which last until the hair grows back...!

Spiral hair remover - easier than threading, no mess, works on super short hairs. About £5 from Amazon

I bought one of these but OMG it stings!! Gave up after a couple of attempts as I just couldn't deal with the pain 🤣🤣

comedycentral · 29/06/2024 12:27

Microblading does work well, I prefer it over veeting.

Lookingoutside · 29/06/2024 12:37

Laser. All the way.

It's not that expensive, especially just for your top lip.

Google Soprano Ice Laser, there'll be a salon near you.

I second this

Leumurshavethumbs · 29/06/2024 12:59

I shave with a dermaplane blade. It doesn't grow back thicker. My hair grows at a very rapid rate and I shave every 2-3 days. It takes 20 seconds and I do it before I moisturise.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 29/06/2024 13:10

I used to bleach when much younger - pale skin dark hair - as I worried about making it worse.

Now I tend to pluck with tweezers the darker hairs - but keep wandering if I should be doing more.

QuestionableMouse · 29/06/2024 13:12

Those spring things - I have never known pain like it and I've been plucking/waxing/yanking out hairs in various ways for years.

Hapagirl48 · 29/06/2024 13:15

I have dark hairs and I’ve tried to wax but it makes my skin all bumpy. I bleach with Jolen. You still have the hairs but un-noticeable. I guess it depends on your skin tone though, I’m East Asian. .
