To ask you how you get rid of upper lip hair?!

Over the last few years the hairs on the corners of my upper lip have got darker and more noticeable and I do really need to do something about them!

I’ve looked up the best ways to remove/conceal but there seems to be drawbacks to all of them. They say shaving doesn’t actually make the hair thicker it’s just the angle but I 100% do not trust that and I don’t want to have to do it every day and get stubble! Maybe waxing? Laser hair removal?

Help!!

I’ve done it all. Threading, plucking, waxing.

I now just dermaplane it off, which I suppose is essentially shaving. It’s quick, effective and not painful at all. I don’t get any ‘stubble’ and it doesn’t grow back thicker. I think that’s a myth.

Yup, I agree. No more messing about with Jolene, painful plucking or waxing. No thicker hair either.

Scammersarescum · 29/06/2024 15:16

I don't bother, it will keep me warmer in winter.

AquaFurball · 29/06/2024 15:16

If it's just a few hairs, electrolysis and ipl

Chaoseverywhere · 29/06/2024 15:19

IPL is fantastic and works well. It will take 6 sessions to treat if your skin colour is lighter than the hair. If you have dark skin it’s a bit harder to target the hair but can be done. I did this for a living for years.

CHEESEY13 · 29/06/2024 15:22

Good old tweezers, painful as that method is.😬

Sorry, @Ponoka7, I don't understand. You should be told if dermaplaning is enough rather than shaving? Or rather than laser?

Rather than shaving.

Whatever you do, do not shave.
Waxing works quite well.
Laser removal is good, but expensive and slow.

There's no issue with shaving it. Doesn't grow back thicker in any shape or form and shaving can be exfoliating too. Only issue with shaving is cutting your skin be careful and make sure razor is clean.

WeRateSquirrels · 29/06/2024 20:18

Mine is very fair and this definitely does not render it invisible! I just shave it - too fair for IPL and anything that yanks it out by the roots gives me horrible irritation and pimples. I use a combination of an dermaplaning blade and this.

Flawless touch is amazing

Zanina · 29/06/2024 20:33

Threading once a week it's easy and cheap

AlmostAJillSandwich · 29/06/2024 20:38

I have PCOS and get a beard as well as the darker upper lip hairs, and a unibrow!
I usually shave, but by the evening of the day after you can feel and see stubble, so its an every other day job, if i don't want my partner to see/feel it.
I prefer to use a depilatory cream, but they're so messy and i can only find the squeeze pen type application ones atm which dont spread or work as well.
Skin is too sensitive to wax, it bleeds, bruises, scabs etc and looks a mess.
I'm a wuss and find tweezing too painful, plus a lot of the hairs are really hard to get a good enough hold on, and to do my chin theres literally a couple hundred hairs probably.
Eyebrows i can get away with the eyebrow shaper mini razor things, but the chin hairs are thicker and coarser and hurts using one of those, so i've got a proper Gilette mens razor.

Threading of course

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 29/06/2024 21:25

I use Nair facial hair removal cream

ChristmasFluff · 29/06/2024 21:30

I pluck and shave (dermaplane - using the Little Eco Company blades), depending on time/number of hairs - I also have 'beard' hairs). I'm guessing that if they've only appeared with age, you won't get stubble - I don't get stubble at all.

MrsClatterbuck · 29/06/2024 21:55

I get waxing. I have quite a bit of facial hair. Years ago I had professional laser which worked for a few years. During lock down I used the hi some waxing kits. Didn't matter about the redness as I wasn't going anywhere was I. I now get it done monthly and have noticed lately that the hair growth is not as prolific as before so hopefully it will be barely showing. I once had threading and the woman was so good. No redness and barely felt any pain. Tried it again at one of those threading stalls at a local shopping centre and didn't last a crack. Just had to stop and paid her a few quid for what she did. The 1st woman has totally spoilt me but would like to give it a go again.

Have you considered threading as per my post the 1st time I had this I hardly felt a thing but it really depends I think who is doing it.

tellmeitsnotjustme12 · 29/06/2024 22:06

I’ve shaved top lip for years and it’s fine, I’ve used IPL at home for last few years and get minimal growth now, just do a light shave and zap every few weeks. You have to be darker haired for IPL to work though.

VeryStressedMum · 29/06/2024 22:41

I used to wax them I got laser and it's worked really well except for a few stubborn wiry hairs that keep popping up.
I bought a lumea as I've now got hair in other places on my face. It is good but you have to keep in top of it
Mostly I take it off with a razor in between as I'm too lazy to do anything else.

Lippylemon · 30/06/2024 09:51

Thanks so much everyone, super helpful though I now have a lot of things to google Grin

Just came back to say that when having the laser (this was approx 20 years ago) I was told it was OK to shave between sessions which were approximately every 8 weeks. The guy who ran the clinic was a dermatologist.
