To ask you how you get rid of upper lip hair?!

Lippylemon · 29/06/2024 09:56

Over the last few years the hairs on the corners of my upper lip have got darker and more noticeable and I do really need to do something about them!

I’ve looked up the best ways to remove/conceal but there seems to be drawbacks to all of them. They say shaving doesn’t actually make the hair thicker it’s just the angle but I 100% do not trust that and I don’t want to have to do it every day and get stubble! Maybe waxing? Laser hair removal?

Help!!

Just shave it, @Lippylemon

Dermaplaning or micro blading or whatever is shaving, as is using one of those little gadgets - “flawless” or “finishing touch” or something similar. All three work just fine.

Waxing is ok if your skin isn’t too sensitive. Ditto epilators creams. Unfortunately my face reacted to both.

Threading and the spiral gadget hurt like a bastard.

After a certain point (thanks, peri menopause) using tweezers becomes too huge a task. Like mowing a lawn with scissors.

you get used to it. The first go over is a bit painful but I find it subsides quickly and unlike waxing there’s no sting once you stop.

I quickly whop it off with a dry razor before doing my makeup. It’s only 2 seconds of my life so I barely think about it. It’s either that or be hairy between proper treatments. Hoping for laser treatments in the future though.

I quite enjoy plucking the chin hairs now that I’m over the horror of having them in the first place! I got my first at about age 30 and now there are a dozen little buggers a decade later.

Why a dry razor, doesn't that give you razor burn?

dumpling123 · 29/06/2024 13:33

I use waxing strips - boots and veet do facial strips, very reasonably priced and quick to do

I have dark hairs and I’ve tried to wax but it makes my skin all bumpy. I bleach with Jolen. You still have the hairs but un-noticeable. I guess it depends on your skin tone though, I’m East Asian. .

Have you checked in bright sunlight? I'm a very pasty white (celtic ancestry!) and bleaching gave thick hairs that pretty much glowed in sunlight. It wasn't a good look. 🙃😬

Toddlerteaplease · 29/06/2024 13:35

I had a course of laser treatment. It was definitely worth it!

somethingwickedlivesnextdoor · 29/06/2024 13:36

Wax with proper facial wax strips. Works well.

100% certain they are noticeable.

Munchyseeds2 · 29/06/2024 13:36

Veet every few weeks, I leave it on 7 mins
The area will be a little red afterwards but I just make sure to do it when I'm not going out anywhere.
i then pluck the odd few that pop up in between.
The joys of getting older!

HousedInMySoul · 29/06/2024 13:41

I use one of the spiral springs that I got for 99p off ebay years ago. It does hurt when you first start but then seems to go numb. Effective and cheap

Simplelobsterhat · 29/06/2024 13:50

I've struggled with this since puberty and gone through different phases. Started off using removal cream and have come back full circle now in my 40s. You need to b careful about getting the right one for you and not leaving too long though as they can really irritate your skin. Liking the Avon one now.

Before the pandemic pushed me back onto home remedies I was getting it threaded which was effective and left no irritation but did make my eyes water! I used the Jolene bleach to extend time between appointments. Before that I got it waxed (couldn't do it myself though!) which again worked well but one time a salon did it too hot and burnt me so that put me off! Threading definitely less risk of skin reaction.

Going to go back and read the other suggestions now to see if I want to try anything else!

Hapagirl48 · 29/06/2024 13:53

@QuestionableMouse @Roundroundthegarden Okay, maybe "un-noticable" was the wrong word! They are less noticeable but I don't mind because I would rather have blond hairs than black ones (pre-bleach).

So what? Women have facial hair. It's natural. We don't have to remove it.

Well no but it's a thread on how you get rid of upper lip hair. So I assume OP wants to.

Facial head of my epilator. 30 seconds of pain done!

I love my epilator but MY GOD is it painful! (& I consider myself to have a high pain threshold)

Yeah just any or all of these suggestions, it's a small albeit sensitive part of your body so no matter what you choose it will be quick

OriginalUsername2 · 29/06/2024 14:24

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/06/2024 13:33

No, not at all. There’s not even that horrible stingy feeling you can get after doing legs.

Anjo2011 · 29/06/2024 14:30

I have threading for upper lip and eyebrows. Lasts me three to four weeks , quick and very effective. I used to use strip wax but find I can’t get the middle of my upper lip as well as threading does.

Then don't bother bleaching it if that's the attitude we're taking to it

LuckysDadsHat · 29/06/2024 10:07

Threading, and if desperate (covid times this was invaluable) dermaplaning.

Edited

Dermaplaning is the same as shaving. I'd say the quickest, easiest and cheapest is to wax it yourself at home.

You might not need to remove it, but the whole point of this thread is how to disguise/remove it.

OP, I was asking someone this exact question earlier in the week.

I’m closer to 60 now but I’d really like to hide my ‘tash’. It’s not thick but obvious to me. From your responses, I think I’ll try boots hair removal cream or this one https://www.boots.com/jolen-facial-hair-remover-kit-10280526

Thanks for your post and everyone’s replies.

I’ve shaved my ‘tache daily since I was about 12. I now use the dermapalming things which are better as I don’t cut myself like I used to sometimes with a razor.

I don’t understand how anyone can bear to let the hair grow long enough to wax or thread?! I’d be Tom Seleck.

Bluemincat · 29/06/2024 14:38

Waxing, threading and hair removal cream all pavement spots. I use one of those mini facial electric shavers and Philips Lumea. Works really well.

ThePoshUns · 29/06/2024 14:40

I use tinkle razors aka dermaplaning

Most don’t want a ‘tache!

AmiShitsaline · 29/06/2024 14:45

ForForToo · 29/06/2024 10:15

I’ve done it all. Threading, plucking, waxing.

I now just dermaplane it off, which I suppose is essentially shaving. It’s quick, effective and not painful at all. I don’t get any ‘stubble’ and it doesn’t grow back thicker. I think that’s a myth.

Agree with this, not sure why everyone is so against shaving, the facial ‘dermaplane’ are great for this. You’re going to get regrowth with any at home method

To ask you how you get rid of upper lip hair?!
Bignanna · 29/06/2024 14:46

Definitely not getting a spiral hair remover- sounds like torture!
