There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

@Livelovebehappy

kids can be pretty feral running riot between the tables!

@ICanNeverRememberPasswords · Today 00:32

None of that has ever happened to me (nor you, most likely), and EVEN IF IT DID, it is far more awful to contend with dog slobber, shit and piss than it is a bit of old ketchup or a chatty toddler.

Oh come ON! This never happens! For goodness sake! Dogs don't shit and piss all over cafes when people take them in. Get a grip! 🙄

If something ruins your mental health, then that is your responsibility to deal with.

Thanks. Unsolicited advice is always criticism.

LittlePearDrop · 29/06/2024 00:50

I'm with you OP. I'm love dogs individually but I am getting fed up of the need of owners to take them bloody EVERYWHERE.

I live in the Lakes so there really is no escape. I popped into Lakeland Windermere the other day, which is a kitchen accessory shop and was pretty shocked to see they let dogs in, and there were flipping loads! Who wants to buy saucepans that are covered in dog fur and slobber?

There's an issue with some people seeing them as a portable accessory and not an animal. Mountain Rescue had to rescue a poor dog the other day because its paws were shredded after a long walk on rocky terrain.

Livelovebehappy · 29/06/2024 00:52

These threads are so frustrating. Why do people try to dictate what other people should or shouldn’t do, and try and justify what they think by making up shit? I can guarantee the amount of people on here moaning about dogs jumping up at them, or ‘slobbering’ on them, or pissing against their prams and kids are just telling porkies! It’s madness. You don’t like dogs? That’s fine, but don’t feel you have to lie to justify that. There are so many things that annoy me massively that I see people do every day (too many examples to list here), but I have to mostly suck it up, because we’re all different and just have to live alongside each other. It is what it is…

Particularly unpleasant if a dog is wandering around in a cafe - I really wouldn't want to eat there.

Yeah it’s awful and it’s bizarre how some people think because they’ve allegedly never witnessed it that means it doesn’t happen. I could even screenshot the review I left several months ago about the cafe where a dog was bothering me if it wasn’t so outing.

But here’s an article about a local shopping centre (well used to be my local when I lived in Scotland) where the dogs were peeing and pooing everywhere. So much so that they ended the dog friendly trial! Had they listened to many people - both dog owners and dog free people - in the first place they wouldn’t have even ran the trial because many people said it would go this way and that their/others dog wouldn’t cope well in the centre. I remember seeing comments objecting to it on Facebook. It was a real mix of people from dog lovers to people who had disabled kids that were terrified of dogs all saying this wasn’t a good idea.

I don’t know but I certainly hope all the ridiculous poodle crosses stop.

They are generally less allergenic than other dogs, and this is important to some people with asthma.

Because dogs are gross, dirty, smelly, and antisocial. Just like smoking. Plus noisy and irritating. And we have made great inroads into banning smoking in public buildings, it's banned on planes, trains, etc. Soon, enough people will be sick of walking on pavements covered in dog piss and shit, that at the very least, dogs will be limited to certain parks, and ideally banned from public buildings. Hopefully dogs will just die out though, as people wake up to the ridiculousness of dog ownership, and realise there is a freer life, and their home won't stink.

I don't like dogs, and I haven't lied about my experiences with them.

MrsSunshine2b · 29/06/2024 01:06

I'm not a big fan of dogs, and I really hate the idea that you have to like them to be a trustworthy person. I'm highly allergic to them and quite scared of them, which is probably partly because if they jump up on me or lick me I come out in hives. So I'm quite biased, but fwiw, I totally agree with you.

Since Covid, suddenly everyone has a dog which they treat like a child, ignore all rules about keeping them on lead or picking up after them, and allow them to be a total nuisance.

Apparently some towns in France are DNA testing dog waste and using it to track owners. Unfortunately, I don't think rubbing their nose in it and then leaving them in public stocks is one of the punishments.

HighHeelsOnCobblestones · 29/06/2024 01:06

My son is allergic. I've lost count of the amount of times dogs have come up to us in the park; owners making no effort to control them. "Oh don't worry, he's friendly" the owner calls out as they see us worried and getting away. I don't care how friendly they think their dog is; I'm sure it's lovely. I'm also sure DS will start swelling up if it so much as gets close enough to pant on him.

Last time he was in a room with a dog, I had to call him an ambulance, he couldn't breathe. Turns out his dog allergy has gotten worse and he now has allergic asthma. Keep him well away from dogs the A&E doc tells us. Well that's been getting harder and harder to do as more place allow them. We don't go in any shop, cafe, etc that allows dogs at all. Couldn't even go on a school trip the other day. Dogs allowed in one part of the site, dogs not allowed in another part but, just some easily ignored signs stating that so it was deemed too risky.

I happen to like dogs. Always had dogs when I was growing up but we didn't take them with us everywhere we went as seems to happen now.

But that’s your opinion? Many more people love dogs, but you think it’s okay to dictate that others should think like you? And a bit stupid to compare dog ownership with smoking. Smoking, and passive smoking, causes illness and death. Never yet heard of anyone who has died from owning, or brushing past, a dog in the street. Can’t imagine the government banning dog ownership anytime soon.

Plus, it will be the owners at fault, not the poodle crosses. They are perfectly biddable and trainable.

Children are human beings. The fact that you compare them and value them in a par with animals discredits your opinion straight away.

Maybe if parents shouldn't think that they're so entitled with their children and discipline them better i might think differently.

When you also have to deal with kids piss because their parents cannot be arsed to even offer to clean it up in the middle of the shop floor.

Or the fact kids stare at you whilst they're picking their nose and their parents get them to hand you the money. 🤢

Dogs. I was in John Lewis Oxford Street last week and there were two dogs in the store! Not guide dogs, clearly pets. Some kind of large poodle cross and a very small toy dog. Both very sweet. BUT the dogs looked scared and uncomfortable and it really wasn’t a place they should be. But nobody stopped them! I think this is becoming more common.

My housing estate neighbours: a new intimidating staffie on one side. An annoying “yappy” one on the other - barks if someone walks past in the street even at night.

Today I saw one of the most vicious looking huge staffie/bullybdogs complete with huge muzzle doing a poo in the park today with his equally gross looking owner. So scary to look at. Still, it’s my right innit? Individual freedom and nutters everywhere given free rein.

I love MOST dogs. Love cats. But the anti social aggressive dogs and noisy neighbours are terrible.

But even parks that are for dogs don’t smell strongly of piss in the summer.

exactly how many dogs are pissing on your wall?

I can't speak for the OP, but my garden is close to a dog-walking spot. (My garden borders the path that leads to a park.) The result is that my front hedge is badly affected. Ditto the plants that I used for underplanting.

As soon as I notice that some of the underplanting has started to sag, I wash it down with plain water - apparently the excess nitrogen in dog urine is too much for plants. I have to keep spraying the edge of the pavement in front of my hedge with lemon-scented disinfectant as a deterrent.

Strangely, when dog owners see me in the garden they suddenly gain the ability to pull their dogs away from my property so that they can widdle elsewhere. Ditto defecation. Yup, I get owners allowing their pooches to void their bowels on my driveway.

The other day, I was weeding and a dog on a long leash wandered up the driveway. I initially thought that it had just got away from its owner until the owner's head appeared around the corner, clocked me and hauled the mutt away. I then heard his wife's voice, followed by his reply of "I can't! She saw me!"

I don't mind dogs - in fact, I quite like them in spite of not being a dog owner myself - but I'm sick of selfish owners.

One chap now has 4 dogs all the same breed by the looks of them. The dogs are lovely and friendly and seem well trained...but he never has them on leads. He commands them to sit outside the local mini-market a few yards from my home. Inevitably, the dogs get distracted and start to wander off. (I swear that I saw the younger two exchanging glances before deciding to disobey their master one day.)

He then looks incredulously at any passers-by who tell them that they've just had to retrieve a couple of animals from the road.

I'm sure he prides himself in how well trained the beasts are: they do look cute - one carries his newspaper in its mouth; another carries his bag of rolls. The other two follow up the rear. This happens every morning. They're beautiful animals, but one day one or more is going to be run over and he'll blame the hapless motorist.

Faith77 · 29/06/2024 01:44

Where I live near a river in SW London, whilst there are issues with dog poo not being picked up, that is due to poor human behaviour, not dogs' behaviour. A far bigger issue is fishermen who are prepared enough to bring toilet roll for their al fresco shts, but not bags large enough to scoop it up and bin it. Or, y'know, just sht in a toilet like normal people! Vile.
A lot of the comments on this thread are shocking, though. Effectively counting down the days & wishing people's much loved pets die swiftly?! Nice. Definitely one of several reasons why I much prefer my (poodle cross) dog to some humans! He also behaves far better in public than many children - & adults - we come across, & I think we ought to be honest & admit that dogs aren't going to be responsible for the downfall of this planet, humans are.

Sounds like a rough area. Nothing like that here.

I live bang in between a rough and a more genteel area. The dogs in the first area are rough as, really scary, with their matted coats and dead eyes. Some of them look as though they spend the whole day at dog gym - they've got muscles on muscles. Sometimes they are off the lead, no muzzle. It's terrifying. Call me a snob, but the posh dogs who are very well cared for with lovely glossy coats and bright eyes are not at all frightening. They never bother you, they just seem to muck in with humans and get on with it. Very polite, those dogs, unlike the chav dogs from the hopeless estates.

John Lewis are well known to be dog friendly. It's on their website, they're allowed in. Which is why they weren't turfed out.
As for the bully, if it was muzzled and on a lead, then, yes, it IS the dog's right to be allowed out for walks. Radical idea, but try stopping & saying hello - most XL bully owners I know are actually lovely, as are their dogs, & now it is more important than ever that they maintain social interaction. Obviously always, ALWAYS ask before petting (I am sick to death of strangers thinking they can grab my dog because he looks like a teddy bear - consent for touching isn't exclusive to humans!), but saying hello to the big "scary" dogs can go a long way towards helping avoid issues.

I didn’t know John Lewis was dog friendly. But the dogs - and I like normal ie not aggressive dogs - looked nervous and unhappy being dragged around a busy store. I have no wish to see such a dangerous and aggressive dog on my walk through the park and they are everywhere where I live. The owners are completely selfish; breeds should have been completely banned; (just like the poor pugs who can’t breathe should be.) Or kept awake with a dog yapping or another neighbour’s dog out of control who nearly killed my cat (the staffie bull terrier) as well as treading on poo everywhere. Fanatical dog lovers are completely blind to this with the selfish and indulgent attitude “my dog, my right”. Yeah? Keep the bull terriers annd similar away from me and my kids you entitled moron (and they always are; I’ve known a few of them).

That’s because most of them are cockerpoos and working cocker spaniels are very hyperactive. It’s nothing to do with them being crossed with poodles.

Perhaps. I’m not convinced it’s not the poodle though. My aunt had a schnauzer poodle cross, it was a hyperactive idiot. And the groodle/golden doodle/whatever over the back from us, while perhaps not so hyperactive, is definitely an idiot. I’m sick of it barking its stupid head off every time we go out in the garden or even on the back deck. I can think of other examples in my experience that also weren’t spaniel crosses.
