To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

I have been in cafes with dogs... they mostly stay led down under the table with their owner.
I have never seen any dog wander about and harass other people in a cafe.

Me neither. .

I despise dogs with every fibre of my being, They are NOT good for my mental health. I am also allergic to them, and the proliferation of them over the last few years, being taken to restaurants and hotels and cinemas, and allowed on trains and buses and aeroplanes just causes so many problems for me and many others who are allergic, ot simply can't abide the smell. It was not so bad when I was growing up. Now, they are everywhere, and they are a menace, I hate the noise, I hate the smell, dodging dog shit, seeing them cock their legs and piss all over the pavements that we walk over. Repulsive. Why do we tolerate this?! Madness.
Imagine if there were no dogs, and someone said:
Fancy bringing a species into existence that bark and growl and yap, often into the night, that piss on your pavements, shit everywhere, cost a fortune, and make your house reek. How many people would sign up? Dog owners have been brainwashed and conditioned into their situation.

Where on earth do you LIVE?! As I and some other posters have said, some posters on here must live in some really nasty rough areas. Because I don't recognise any of this at all hardly! I mean there is the occasional dog shit on the pavements, and the odd dog on the loose now and again, but nowhere NEAR what you describe.

And I don't live in a super swanky area. A nice area (village 2-3 miles from a little market town,) but not super swanky. 150 homes roughly - 65% privately owned, 20% social housing, and 15% private let . As I say, what kind of place do you live - (You AND the other posters with similar 'horrific' behaviour from dogs (and some dog owners apparently!)

Problem is, businesses get more custom by being dog friendly, so I honestly can’t see anyone reversing it. If you holiday in the Lake District or similar, it’s great. Dogs are allowed literally everywhere…..

The more they know that people AREN'T going in to their business, though, the sooner they WILL reverse it. I actively boycott dog-friendly places. Sadly, at the moment, it is harder to do, but so far, one local store has now reversed their previous dog-friendly stance due to 'incidents', and I do believe more will follow suit.

I holidayed at the Lakes two years ago, tried to find a dog-free restaurant, Told several places that we wouldn't eat there because they allowed dogs. Found a Thai place that was thankfully dog-free.

FeelingHotHotHotFeelingHotHotHot · 29/06/2024 00:29

I don't have a dog by the way, always had cats (25 years now.) But I always had one or two growing up (with my parents,) and loved having dogs! I just have cats now - not dogs, because cats suit my lifestyle more.

Several of my neighbours have dogs, and they are fine. Well behaved and quite placid, and the owners pick up the dog shit when they go for walks. Don't seem to smell, and are friendly and chipper.

The dog hate on Mumsnet is bizarre to me. I don't think I have met anyone in real life who has so much intense and visceral hatred for dogs!

!

YOU sound horrid, equating mutts to humans. What is wrong with you?

My kids have never pissed on the street, never shat on the street, never licked a random stranger, never made anyone ill because nobody is allergic to my children. And my home smells lovely.

No. Have to disagree. Kids can be pretty feral. You try to sit eating your food in a cafe, and there’s kids either running riot between the tables, dropping food all over the floor (you can always tell when children have been sat at your table before you - there’s chips, sauce, nuggets, all over the floor and smeared on chairs) Or they come wondering over to your table trying to converse with you whilst mum and dad watch on adoringly, because of course they think everyone just loves their darlings as much as they do….

Obviously I am not saying where I live, but it is a very lovely area, affluent, but rich people are just as bad as poor people about picking up dog shit, and dogs of both rich and poor people are equally likely to be pissing all over the pavement.

No way would Selfridges have let dogs in to their store. Unless they were Assistance Dogs.

Oh they do. I’ve seen them myself. Even Selfridges has fallen for this madness.

But they dog friendly places are always pretty full when we visit, so I don’t think the business owners are going to notice if others boycott them or not. 🤷‍♀️

I think we should apply this to humans and their breeding.

So do I, I'm against breeding animals and humans. Way too many humans and way too many dogs; it's a living nightmare for an autistic person tbh.

None of that has ever happened to me (nor you, most likely), and EVEN IF IT DID, it is far more awful to contend with dog slobber, shit and piss than it is a bit of old ketchup or a chatty toddler.

You'd have more money though, for nice trips, if you didn't have a dog. Freedom, too.

What difference does it make to your life whether this poster XenoBitch has a dog or not?

I hate kids in public. They're everywhere. Scream in shops. Pick their noses. Run around. Are very loud. No thank you.

Yes, I have seen more awful behaviour from kids and their entitled behaviour from their parents, than any dog, ever.

👏 to you and XenoBitch.

Some people are not fit to breed human beings. There are too many of us on the planet anyway.

I have 2 (now adult) children, who I love and adore (and think are pretty amazing!) and I don't dislike other peoples children, (often.) But I have to say I have encountered more badly behaved feral children, than badly behaved feral dogs!

PorridgeEater · 29/06/2024 00:35

Sadly I did once see a cafe where a dog was wandering around going up to people sitting and eating at tables. Not very appealing.

The barking and unpredictability are awful for most autists. Try adopting animals that don't ruin other people's mental health.

Are you one of those parents who think we should all love your precious little darlings as much as you do? Kids are annoying, disgusting and attention seeking.

I have said it, along with many other posters.

Putting · 29/06/2024 00:37

There are too many crap owners that have dogs.

Someone mentioned dogs on a train earlier. It’s against all the train operators’ rules that I’ve looked at for dogs to be on seats, but no one enforces it and I don’t get why.

Perhaps people would have more patience for dogs if there weren’t so many complete fucking idiots thinking the rules don’t apply to them.
