To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

Guide dogs will have also been trained since they were puppies to do their business in a way that their owner can pick up after.
You can't really compare them to your average family dog.

Which is why guide/service dogs are not in issue in shops, cafes etc, other than the allergy concern, compared to many pet dogs.

I have never seen a dog piss/shit in a shop.... not even in a pet shop. Where are people going that they see so many slack assed pooches just spraying whatever excrement all over the place?

I can guarantee that they are blind to the ones that are no trouble. Like I said in a PP.... dogs and their owners are like cyclists... you only notice the bad ones... and then many people think all dogs/owners are bad, because they are the only ones their attention is attracted to.

Dogs have no reason to be in clothes shops or gift shops.
I don't mind the existence of dog friendly cafes or pubs, but it's the expectation that every cafe or should automatically be dog friendly.

Notaflippinclue · 03/07/2024 20:46

I hate the bird murdering cats shitting in my garden - I chuck things at the bastards especially this time of the year when baby birds are fledging-I would shoot them if it was legal

Some dog owners might be visiting an area (on holiday), so can't leave their dog at home.
And anyway, if the owner of a business allows dogs, then a dog in that establishment is not in the wrong.

If you are on about dog owners expecting all establishments to be dog friendly, then I agree in that leaving bad reviews etc is bad form.
I only take my dog to places she is welcome.

There is neighbourhood cat that visits my garden, and he is aggressive as fuck. He will launch at me or my dog. He is genuinely frightening.
I am thinking about getting a water pistol so I can try to deter him, but I think it would piss him off more.

It's the attitude that dogs should be allowed absolutely everywhere and that you're a 'hater' if you don't like that idea.
If a business wants to allow dogs then, as long as that's clear from the outset, we can all vote with our feet (unless of course there aren't many dog free options in some areas this is becoming a reality).

There are always dog free options. Costa do not allow dogs, and they are everywhere.
Wetherspoons too.

Our Costa seems to allow dogs in - I know it’s technically against company policy, but that’s actually no guarantee.

No Wetherspoons here, either.

This has come up before and it was surprising how many people were finding less and less dog free options in their area.
It might also surprise you to hear that many of us live nowhere near Costa or Weatherspoons.

But what is so bad about going into a cafe and there is a dog there under a table... having a nap and not bothering anyone?
Because there are the extreme dog haters that think even that is awful.

If it's not bothering anyone, that's fine. I get a wee bit perturbed when they start sniffing around while I'm trying to eat.

Different people prefer dog free environments for their own reasons, so I can only speak for myself - it's the smell (they all smell), the drooling, the not knowing how calm they might be if other dogs come in, the way some owners speak to them/go on about them, worrying about standing on them/tripping over them.....

That doesn’t describe every dog in a cafe though…

I personally wouldn’t have an issue with the type of situation you describe, but then I don’t have a phobia or an allergy.

I think there should always be the option to go somewhere that doesn’t allow dogs.

My dog is a breed known for not smelling. And plenty of people stink.
She also does not drool. Not many breeds drool at all.
My dog is calm and does not give a shit about people or other dogs.

I speak to my dog. How is that bothering you? Why would you be listening to me to start with? That is a very odd thing to get worked up about.

There are are plenty of dog free places to go to. Google is your friend.... and is the same way I find dog friendly places.

Not in my local town there aren’t, I think it’s very area-dependent.

Putting · 03/07/2024 21:10

And even some of the places that say they aren’t dog friendly don’t kick dogs out if people bring them in

Well, that is down to the owners not being accretive enough, isn't it. It is not a thing to batter dogs owners with.

But it’s the dog owners bringing them in somewhere they’re not welcome that are causing the issue!

There are so many dog friendly places round here (not Lakes / Peaks, but similar issues) - why do they need to take them into places they aren’t meant to be in? It’s just selfish. And gives reasonable dog owners a bad name.

Well, I would agree with you there. If a place has said 'no dogs' then anyone trying to push their luck is a knob.
There is a pet shop where I live, that does not allow dogs because they have had them piss, and also frighten the animals they have on sale.
The also have banned children from the bird area.
They have their animal's welfare at heart.

I didn't say I was worked up, I simply answered your question.
As I said, they definitely do all smell, it's akin to when smokers say they don't smell of smoke and the rest of us know they do. Of course people can smell horrible too, but I've yet to find an 'other people free' establishment, other than my own house or car.

I find it annoying hearing grown adults doing 'baby voice' to dogs - of course not everyone does that but I have no idea who does or doesn't when I first meet them - it seems to be quite common, unfortunately.
