Anyone else wobbling about voting Labour?

1000 replies

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 27/06/2024 17:39

I desperately want to GTTO but the last few years have taught me that ‘any change’ isn’t always good and things can get worse, even if you think they can’t.

I’ve watched all the debates now and Starmer is so… wet. I don’t like him. The first thing he did when women’s rights were mentioned his first thought was men who ‘identify as women’ and how ‘marginalised’ they are. When asked about immigration he squirmed and squirmed before muttering about his role as DPP (who cares? We want to know what you plan to do NOW). When asked about his support for Corbyn he said ‘but I didn’t think we would actually win..’

There’s something about him which is making me very uncomfortable and I just have a bad feeling now about what would happen if he was leader.

Anyone else? If you’re not voting Tory or Labour, who are you voting for and why? I assumed I would vote Labour this time but my gut is suddenly screaming at me not to!

yes because they voted Corbyn in..and loads of lefty fuck wits still there who can bin starmer and vote for so other lefty twat

SparklyMaker · 27/06/2024 19:28

I’m in a safe Labour seat but would never vote for them after what their rule in Wales has done to Wales for the last 25 years.

We are currently on a tour via renting Air B&Bs this week as we have a week off. I suggested going to West Wales but my partner refused the thought cos of the ridiculous way the 20 mph scheme has been implemented. In some areas you can go from National Speed limit, to 40 mph, to 30 mph to 20 mph in the space of 2 miles!

So even Welsh people don’t want to holiday in Wales because of ridiculous Labour policies so take note. Also, see state of the Welsh NHS.

I usually vote Lib Dem but Rishi was on fire last night and made Starmer look like the buffoon he is so I will probably vote conservative even though it won’t make a difference where I live.

They are the only party prepared to stand up for women that is why.

Do you have amnesia? Have you missed the last 14 years of Tory government and what it's done to British women?🤯

stand up for women's rights my arse.🙄

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:23

@runningonberocca Starmer is a top lawyer. You do not get there unless you can put across a good argument. That does not mean he is good at being on TV though.
I think of someone like John Major. Not good on TV but brilliant at negotiating with other countries and top people in the UK. Some people do not just come across on TV well.

I don’t think he’s put it across anywhere though - TV, radio, newspaper interviews, any part of his camp at. I’ve no doubt he must be better at it than he seems but he is so poorly prepared for the most basic, predictable questions. So it’s either incompetence or laziness

ExtraOnions · 27/06/2024 19:29

ChurchCats · 27/06/2024 19:25

I wouldn't worry-if Keir Starmer does as much as a year he'll be lucky.
Off he will pop and the hard left will take over.
Not that Keir is the cuddly option-he is a dangerous man and the reason he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights when asked a simple question, is not because he is anxious (no-one with anxiety to that extent becomes a leading politician) but because he is always frightened of his real policies being discovered.

…and who from “the hard left” is up for Election this year ? Who do you imagine is in this rebellion ?

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:29

@ChurchCats total scaremongering. Starmer is a centrist. I am a centrist. I hated Corbyn. The left wing hate Starmer and many extreme left wing members have been expelled from the ;Labour party. If the Labour party are elected, we will get a centrist government. Far more like John Majors government. What used to be called caring Conservatives. That is why Starmer is. Cares about vulnerable people, but also cares about the economy and knows it needs to work better than it has in the last 10 years.

BeachParty · 27/06/2024 19:30

ExtraOnions · 27/06/2024 19:24

The Conservative Party .. the great protector of women’s rights.

Apart from the record waiting lists for gynaecology services, closing of Sure Start centres, low rate of prosecution and convictions for sexual offences, the increase in zero hours contracts, the gender pay gap, unaffordable child care, the disproportionate effect of austerity on women, rise in violent crime against women etc etc etc

Women Rights cannot be boiled down to JUST being about Trans-Rights. If you are voting, because you are concerned about the effect of government policy on women, look at it holistically.

I have a daughter and her safety is threatened much more by the dire state of the NHS and Police Service.

It’s single issue politics that’s dangerous

👏👏

I’m not sure about the no doubt part but agree

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:31

@runningonberocca if you want to vote for our Prime Minister based on how they come across on TV go ahead. I think Farage comes across best, he is great at TV interviews. He would also be an incompetent nightmare of a Prime Minister.

behindthemall · 27/06/2024 19:31

Trickabrick · 27/06/2024 17:41

You do realise you vote for your constituency MP, not a Prime Minister? If you’re wobbling, do some research on the candidates in your local area and pick the one that aligns most closely to your values.

This, but I get the quandary.

I’m not passionately in the GTTO camp, but think we probably do need a change of government. But I’ve voted conservative anyway as my local MP is a great local presence. I do feel a bit like I’ve chickened out though and like I’m relying on everyone else to do their bit to vote differently to me which doesn’t feel good.

But I’m not a Labour supporter and never have been. They almost had my vote this time but they just haven’t said enough more than ‘we’ll be better then the tories’. So I’ve stuck with voting for a name I’m happy with even though they stand with a party that I don’t really support.

What hard left? Hmm

You think John McDonall is going to seize the party??! Hahaha

Honestly this is pure fantasy.

I am sorry you feel that way. British women will be severely diminished under any party that is not conservative, if you check the manifestos all seem to be prioritising the trans movement over women.

Are you aware of that?

typicaltuesdaynight · 27/06/2024 19:31

Yes after watching last nights
Debate between sunak and starmer. He didn't fill me with confidence, I think keir didn't come over that well

BlueSoul · 27/06/2024 19:32

No. I am steadfast in my determination not to vote for Labour!

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:32

And Rishi Sunak just comes across as a weak man on TV.

But what I care about is what they do. I do not want any more of a Conservative government who lie and cheat and treat us all like mugs. If you want to continue to be scammed by a bunch of people who are openly corrupt. go ahead.

Mouswife · 27/06/2024 19:32

I hate the Tory party but I can’t vote labour. Starmer is awful.

I am not trying to be amusing. This is a serious issue for many millions of women.

Peonies12 · 27/06/2024 19:33

I’m tactically voting Lib Dem, they nearly beat Tories last time in our constituency and the local candidate seems good. Pointless voting labour where I live

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:34

Lib Dem or Labour are the only real choice depending on your local candidate.

feellikeanalien · 27/06/2024 19:34

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/06/2024 18:31

@feellikeanalien said she was voting Labour to unseat the Tories. Like a lot of the country in this GE.

I would vote SDP but they have no chance of getting in. I just wish there was another centre left party that wasn't Labour and had a chance of being elected or at least forming a coalition. LibDem always used to be my protest vote but I can't vote for them either.

IClaudine · 27/06/2024 19:35

Going by all the other political threads I have seen you on @MaryMaryVeryContrary I find it hard to believe you ever intended to vote Labour.

Createausername1970 · 27/06/2024 19:35

YaWeeFurryBastard · 27/06/2024 17:53

Me, for the reasons you say and because I don’t want labour to have a large majority and lurch further to the left.

Also, many labour voters are completely intolerant to the views of others and I’ve been called a thick racist many times for not always voting labour. That makes it very difficult for me to get on board as I think it’s dangerous to just denounce the opinion of anyone who’s ever voted Tory/brexit etc. I don’t feel welcomed or heard as a swing voter.

My two main reasons for not voting labour are other labour voters who are vile on forums, and the party's views on self ID.

If we had a Party for Women candidate I would have voted for her. But we don't, so I voted for the independent guy who actually lives in the constituency and has some good ideas locally in his pamphlet.

SDP has some very dodgy Reform-esque policies.

ChurchCats · 27/06/2024 19:36

orangepostbox · 27/06/2024 19:26

@ExtraOnions they are just transphobic. There is no arguing with them, they are not interested. And they are not interested in woman's rights either. If they were they would be looking at the appalling rape conviction rate which has fallen during the Conservatives, the lack of refuge spaces for women being abused, the increase in women in prison for minor offences, and the rise in street prostitution due to the vast increase in poverty.

There you go!
Get used to it...
.any time you object to a rapist being called 'she' (even the Daily Mail calls the SHE for the love of God)
any time you worry that a female with a penis is in a Refuge or a women's prison
any time you object to a bloke with bollocks being in your changing room or daughter's loo at school
any time you wonder why women with penises are beating ever competitor in women's sport
every time you see a woman with a penis winning a woman's prize
every time you object to being given a intimate search by a woman with a penis police officer
every time you can't ask for a chaperone because you don't want an intimate examination by a woman with a penis GP

Every single time, you will be called a Transphobe and worse-maybe jailed for your hate speech. maybe fired from your job, maybe vilified until you are wheeled out to apologise.

It's not good now and it will be 1000 times worse under labour, as most of the Front Bench believe a woman can have a penis.

After all, here they come-the allies of men- shouting Transphobe even on this thread.
