To think most (or lots) of teachers are secretly quite wild?

I’ve been a teacher for twenty three years, almost all the younger teachers-22-50 have been pretty wild on nights out and many of the younger ones-20’s have very crazy social lives.
Has anyone else had experience of this?
I think most people probably think we’re quite boring…

I agree- I’m pretty wild but I try to hide it at school!

ByCupidStunt · 26/06/2024 18:10

They're the same as the rest of us!

What do you call wild?

Dotto · 26/06/2024 18:11

A lot do seem to be shaggers

ThisMustBeMyDream · 26/06/2024 18:16

Haha! I'm from a family of teachers and my other half is a teacher.

They're just the same as everyone else I think! Some wild, some not so! My mum was a primary head and despaired at me when taking my son to her school as she disapproved of any outfits that showed the shape of my tits. Or god forbid.... cleavage! But she was always a bit funny like that. She definitely knows how to let her hair down though! She is still the most conservative teacher I know!

My other half didn't become a teacher until he was 33. His 20's were very colourful indeed, and has shaped the man he is now (fucking wonderful IMO!). The kids love to ask about his tattoos and piercings though 🤣. This summer he is having his lip repierced as it closed over a couple of years ago! If only they knew the stories behind them all! He lived a very full life! 🤭

IAintNoMissHoney · 26/06/2024 18:18

God, can we please stop with the teachers are... threads?

I am one and so I know full well that we are just regular people with a job.

I was a body piercer before I trained to be a teacher. So what? I also used to have a mohican. So what? I'm also a brilliant primary teacher.

I'm pretty sure most people are just regular people regardless of their profession.

Except accountants. Accountants are as boring as shit.

Oh, except for all the ones I've met who aren't.

cansu · 26/06/2024 18:20

I think they are just like everyone else. They get drunk, make unwise choices etc etc.

Ereyraa · 26/06/2024 18:21

They’re no different to anyone else. They aren’t one homogenous group?

IAintNoMissHoney · 26/06/2024 18:25

I doubt most people care as long as we're doing our jobs properly.

audweb · 26/06/2024 18:26

I think they are just people with jobs. I’m unsure why you think people would think otherwise.

TheSerenePinkOrca · 26/06/2024 18:29

Look at the sort of person who sticks it out in teaching... you HAVE to be a rather bonkers and wild sort of person given how crazy the job can be!

I'd say I'm quite wild. I certainly enjoy life!

ForForToo · 26/06/2024 18:30

All teachers are bonkers. ALL. My good friend who has been a teacher for 20+ years frequently says this Grin.

IamaRevenant · 26/06/2024 18:34

Surely this is just the case with any group? Especially ones who've been to uni and had the whole partying experience? Some are boring and staid and some are not!

I'm in a profession that's generally seen as 'sensible' and most of us get messy at times!

Foxblue · 26/06/2024 18:35

I remember when I was at university, it was commonly accepted fact that if you accepted an invitation to a party full of trainee teachers or nursing students it was going to be a wild night!
I don't imagine all of them are like this, but I had friends up and down the country at different unis and we all said the same!

Oh I've met some accountants who go raving and get twatted at the weekend 😅 a job is just a job isn't it!

hopscotcher · 26/06/2024 18:37

Ha ha, well I've been a bit of a drunken sort at times but can't quite lay claim to 'wild.' I wish!

HamBagelNoCheese · 26/06/2024 18:44

Work hard, play hard?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/06/2024 18:45

I'm sure we're not alone!
For me it has varied a lot between schools. In the ones I've worked in for a decent length of time:
School 1 (London) absolutely wild
School 2 (London) good social life but less wild
School 3 (in the shires, girls' private school) no social scene at all
School 4 (girls' grammar, NW, mostly female teachers) not much going on, only the younger crowd go to the end of term socials

I enjoyed school 1 Grin, was there for 4 years but I couldn't have taken the pace for much longer!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/06/2024 18:47

I don't think it's that teachers necessarily play harder than lots of other professions. It's more that it's an image that's particularly at odds with a lot of people's image of teachers, especially their own teachers when they were/are at school. It was certainly a surprise to me when I first became a teacher!

LeggyLinda · 26/06/2024 18:52

I live very near a school on one side and a pub on the other.
I would have to challenge you on the words “secretly” and “quite”.
The teenage pupils seem to be the mature ones around here 😂

IAintNoMissHoney · 26/06/2024 18:54

I'm just curious as to the motivation of the OP, tbh.

After 23 years you're still amazed by the fact are just normal people with lives outside of school?

Whowillwinthefootball · 26/06/2024 19:39

@IAintNoMissHoney 🙄No motivation, just thought it was quite interesting and majority of responses have confirmed what I was thinking

What's that? That teachers are just normal people with a range of personalities, interests and life experiences and that no one really cares?

VelvetBow · 26/06/2024 19:45

I know two teachers in their thirties who have very hectic social lives, binge drink a lot and take a lot of cocaine. Go back to school on Monday and teach Georgraphy and Maths 🤣

Whowillwinthefootball · 26/06/2024 20:10

@IAintNoMissHoney Why so defensive? I’m
a teacher and don’t think my post is offensive is it? Of course they have normal lives, I’m sure people realise that, I was just curious about others views about some (not all) teachers lives/social lives being a bit more out there/crazier than lots of other professions
There’s no malice in this post whatsoever 🤗
