To find this disgusting?

There’s still a week before bin collection and this is the state of my neighbours.

This isn’t a one off. It’s constantly like this. Both normal and recycling. Sick of living near tramps that don’t care.

To find this disgusting?

So talk to them?

(Nicely)

Ask them to compact their rubbish down to stop it blowing away. Don't mention the smell, all rubbish smells, that's not on them.

Yes but the smell is much worse if the lid is left open, or things overflow. So that is on them!

Theneverendingcycle · 26/06/2024 21:10

I mean - have you spoken to them about it?
I get it - rubbish overflowing everywhere not exactly nice when its hot and the bin starts smelling - do they drive? could they take the extra waste away?

There are people literally dying right now in the world, starving or beaten to death - the bin is not that big of a deal when you think harder about other things - speak to them they might just be overwhelmed or actually really sick at the moment and actually need a hand!?

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 21:11

@Valeriekat how do I get to the tip if I don't have a car and@fungipie a lot of my neighbours don't have cars either (despite living in a half a million £ flat many Londoners don't have cars).
(I sadly don't live in one of the half million flats 😂)
That answer always wants to make me scream.
Lots of people DON'T HAVE CARS 😱🙄

Nosing in their garden? It’s out on the front of the house. The rubbish has littered the street numerous times, with it going onto my property. They don’t care. If it’s like that with 6 more days to go then ..

I just want to live on a clean street. Which it used to be until they moved in.

You should live next to me then you would have something to complain about

Although I complain weekly but nothing happens

i have had my general waste bin emptied 3 times since February and my recycling bin got emptied only 4-5 times last year and once this year

We all work f/t and sometimes 7 days per week and when we have time we take the excess to the tip

Wish councils would provide bigger bins or more bins

Yalta · 26/06/2024 21:21

Or just come to collect what they are supposed to on a regular basis

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 26/06/2024 21:21

I'm fascinated by the many suggestions to get a bigger bin. Our council supplies the bins - small ones - that get emptied every 3 weeks - are you all buying your own?

(where from?)

Daleksatemyshed · 26/06/2024 21:28

We have loads of bins, landfill, recycling for glass and tin, garden waste, food caddy and a box for paper/ cardboard. The people whose landfill bins are overloaded are the ones who are too lazy to sort their rubbish. If you do it as you go along it's not a problem

Onwar · 26/06/2024 21:38

Yanbu. They should be sorting their waste. My guess is they may be running a business at home and it's not just residential waste.

amusedbush · 26/06/2024 21:47

Topofthemountain · 26/06/2024 21:05

Really don't tell them that, they would explode.

Do you get food collections? My sister is on three weeks but food waste is more regular. We don't get that yet.

I'm sure on a past thread one poster had their recycling collected once a month.

Yeah, we can put food in the garden waste bin and have it collected more frequently. Although, as of a few months ago, we can no longer put garden waste in it without a £50 permit.

Our recycling is collected every two weeks, it’s just the main wheelie bin that’s every three.

Our local tip is really close by though, and we don’t have to book a slot/queue/show ID, so I quite often go first thing on a Saturday morning to get rid of anything I don’t want hanging around for weeks.

whereisshadow · 26/06/2024 22:31

gamerchick · 26/06/2024 21:07

Pretty normal sight here. Binmen have been striking on and off since Christmas. It's fun

And that would be understandable.

But our collections haven’t been missed and their bin is overflowing after a week. So basic maths means that’s going to be double the amount soon. And I’ve seen them just sling bin bags out on the pavement - which rightly never get collected

They should get a larger bin then

Have you ever tried to get a lather bin from the waste people/council? It’s not easy! We had a tiny one with a family of 4, only managed to get a standard one (which they now call a large one) due to medical needs

Some councils allow requests for a bigger bin, I think for large households or special circumstances. Ours doesn't but you can put out extra recycling in carrier bags and you can also get starter packs of five real nappies for £20 through the council. Even if you didn't buy any more, you could use those at home and reduce nappies in the bin.

@gamerchick you must be under the same LA as I am - 6th December was the last time our grey bin got emptied before it all kicked off, and it was 8 weeks later when it was eventually emptied..... it's been such fun playing tip roulette, will we get a slot in the next fortnight, which bin is going out this week, oh it's grey bins for the foreseeable........ 🤣 Good Ol' Council.

Sturnidae · 26/06/2024 23:41

Allfur · 26/06/2024 17:22

Recycle more so less goes in the landfill bin

Easier said than done. Our recycling bins are pathetic. Small boxes, one red and one green for some plastics and cardboard/paper. They claim that as long as you box extra they'll take it, they rarely do. Tetrapak, clothing and all other recyclables have to go to the recycling banks, the two of which near me are rarely emptied so unusable. I've walked back from them so many times only to bin the Tetrapak because I don't have space to store them. We easily fill our wheelie bin and half of a second one most weeks.

For contrast I lived in another area where we had pink bags for all recyclables and they'd take as many as we're left out, no separating and super easy to manage. We had one black bag a week and that was despite having two in nappies.

Pussycat22 · 26/06/2024 23:45

I recognise that bin !!!

Yes, our council has a rule that you can apply for a large (as in, the size they used to be) bin if you're a household of five people or more. But that's not the same as "just getting" a bigger bin, that's why I wondered. I only learned on on a thread here recently that some people have to buy their own bins 🤷 If my bin looked like the one in OP's photo, it wouldn't be the answer because there's only two of us. And it wouldn't get emptied because a) the lid isn't shut and b) there's cardboard in it.

We are allowed to order extra recycle boxes / bags, so there's no reason not to seperate the rubbish properly but there are always scruffbags like OP's neighbours who operate on the basis of "I don't want it, it's not my responsibility any more"

Pussycat22 · 26/06/2024 23:45

So do i are we all called tramps living in this street LOL.

Purplebunnie · 27/06/2024 14:01

Gosh reading these threads it makes me realise how reasonable our council are.

Rubbish bins, recycling bins and garden waste bins are all the same size. Yes we have to pay for the garden waste but prefer that to going to the tip.

Our collections are fortnightly - recycling and garden bin one week, rubbish the next

I think that rubbish and recycling bins should be standard size across the country. We used to have those little boxes for recycling and I ended up buying more, then the council gave us a decent sized bin.

LakieLady · 27/06/2024 14:27

LocalHobo · 26/06/2024 19:16

I totally get what you are saying. As a family of five I often have to make a mid week tip visit if the bin is overflowing. No way would our bin squad collect a wheelie bin that doesn't close.

Thank goodness our council aren't that fussy.

The tip is only open from 9-4, so anyone with a full-time job has to go at the weekends and the queues are often massive (they put a sign out to tell people the estimated wait time to get in, it's often over an hour).

And they only provide recycling and food waste bins, general waste has to be put out in bags. You can have an extra recycling bin if you need it though.

usernamealreadytaken · 27/06/2024 15:40

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 17:17

What are they meant to do with their rubbish if the bins provided aren't big enough?
You should be angry at your council - not your neighbours.

Recycle (obvious cardboard box on top), reduce, not produce so much rubbish? That looks like the large sized wheelie bin, and it's overflowing. Yeah, but let's blame the council fgs.

Needmorelego · 27/06/2024 15:59

@usernamealreadytaken I have communal dumpster style bins.
2 for recycling, 2 for general rubbish.
For 30 flats.
Collection is every Friday. They're full by Sunday.
I recycle what i can. We don't have food waste bins. Most of the 30 flats don't have cars so we can't go to the mythical tip.
Not blaming the council.
But stating facts.

thinkfast · 27/06/2024 16:13

Our council won't collect a bin unless the lid is closed. Round here it's two strikes and you're out. Essentially, if your bin is over flowing or the lid is open, the council attach a tag saying they won't collect your bin like this. After two tags you get a fine and the bin men don't collect from you any more.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 27/06/2024 16:18

I agree that it's disgusting.

Did you know that when recycling bins have the wrong things in them, like greasy pizza boxes or un-rinsed milk cartons it contaminates the whole bin lorry load and can't be recycled.

It pisses me off no end when I walk round my neighbourhood and see endless bins full of non-recyclables.

mogtheexcellent · 27/06/2024 16:18

My sympathies. I have a similar neighbour. Its mostly recycling in the non recycling bin and the actual recycling bin is full of broken household stuff.Confused

The black bin waste would fit if they recycled properly and did tip runs/freecycling for the household stuff. But they just dont care.

OP shows an individual bin. If you had individual bins, I assume you'd manage better?
