To find this disgusting?

There’s still a week before bin collection and this is the state of my neighbours.

This isn’t a one off. It’s constantly like this. Both normal and recycling. Sick of living near tramps that don’t care.

To find this disgusting?

Actually had to zoom incase it was mine 🤦‍♀️

Did you take that photo on a calculator? In 1997? 🥴

Brilliant. 😂😂😂

Poopatrolonthetoiletroll · 26/06/2024 19:25

Is your camera from the 1990s Op?

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 26/06/2024 19:29

I remember hosting Christmas with a toddler in nappies. We had the cleanest waste stacked in bags in the shed and it took until February to get rid of it all on top of normal collections. So it can easily happen.

Despair1 · 26/06/2024 19:29

Hi OP, I don't like the reference to people 'living like tramps'; very derogatory term. 'Tramps' are predominantly people who are without a home and live outside; a nightmare scenario.BW

Yes. I wasn't suggesting you did always have full bins.
But asked what you would do if you did.
I also don't usually have overly full bins. Perhaps if I was away and didn't ask a neighbour (the other one!) to put my bin out it would overflow.
If my bin regularly overflowed, I would try to come up with a solution that didn't involve rubbish overflowing my bin at the front of my house and blowing into my neighbours gardens.
What would you do?

If I could reduce my waste at source by changing how I shopped, I'd do that. If I could collapse packaging to make it fit, I'd do that. I'd take large cardboard boxes to work as we have a collection, I can't see that being more than occasional as where would they all come from. If I had multiple incontinent adults or with disabilities that meant excessive waste, then I'd apply for a bigger bin. After that, I'd see if a single neighbour or couple would regularly let me use their bin for sorted, securely bagged rubbish.

We’ve been in this position. There’s nothing you can do beyond go to the tip but I don’t drive so… well what?

There’s lots you can do.
Sort you waste properly.
Compost veg and fruit waste.
Only use minimal packaging.
Recycle more.

We live in a hamlet. The bins are 300 metres down the lane.
We learned very quickly to reduce waste.
We wheel our bags down in the wheelbarrow.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 26/06/2024 19:32

Not read the thread, just popping by to say YANBU.

There is no excuse to have bins overflowing and rubbish piling up like that.

I have 2 blue bins and 3 green bins- no one is stuck only having one bin so if a bin is too small for the recycling or garden waste you generate, that isn’t an excuse I’m afraid.

You can also take rubbish (black/grey bin) to the local to tip for free if your bin is full before collection day.

Our bins are collected every other week.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 19:34

I always snort at the "take it to the tip" on threads like these.
Not everyone has a car 🙄

So? Loads of local blokes willing to come by and do a trip to the tip for £20 round here. I know because I don’t have a car.

We are only allowed 1 green bin (which costs £60 per year and 2 recycling sacks. We can't take the black rubbish bin to the tip as since covid you have to book a slot and they're currently booking for august.

There is not option for a bigger bin and you are not allowed more than one. Not everyone can get extra receptacles

MichaelFabricantsSyrup · 26/06/2024 19:37

Oh and the blokes tip run wouldn't work here as you have to show ID and you're allowed one tip trip per month (if you can actually get one)

Sounds like a perfect neighbour! Shame you don't live next door to me or to the OP!

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 19:42

@SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice yes and half the time the rubbish ends up dumped in a country lane rather than the tip !
Plus not everyone has a spare £20.

Lifeomars · 26/06/2024 19:46

Come and live where I am, marvel at the fly tipping, gasp at the endless litter, gape in awe at the wheelie bins left out on the narrow pavement for years on end getting in the way of disabled people and parents with buggies. Then cast your eyes over the brown bins that have been packed to the hilt with non-recyclable stuff so that the bin men cannot take them, so there they sit out on the pavement a whole year later stinking to high heaven. When you have done that come and watch me sweeping up fag ends, seed shells and sometimes dirty nappies that have been chucked out on to the street. Now that is disgusting! Oh and while you are at it, spare a thought for me when my neighbours broke into my back yard and took out my green bin to stuff it with their rubbish, but that is part of the joy of living in an area that has been neglected for well over 10 years and where unscrupulous BTL landlords make a fortune by turning two up two terreced houses into unofficial HMOs crammed probably 10 or more adults

Plump82 · 26/06/2024 19:49

At least they're using their bins. One of my neighbours just likes to dump it anywhere.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 19:49

@Lifeomars do you live in my street 😂

NoseNothing · 26/06/2024 19:53

I can’t tell if the posters who think this isn’t an issue are themselves also disgusting bin users or are just trying to be “cool and carefree” as seems to be a continuing theme on MN these days.

Not sure why you’re getting such a hard time from people, OP. It’s rank. I would hate having to have to look at/walk past that every day (as I’m sure we all would - hence why I don’t understand why people are defending this). Get better evidence and report to the council or whoever.

Gross.

It's My recycling that's the problem it's all over my garden. We're provided with flimsy undersized bags. The council know its an issue they didn't care. They didn't listen to the people funding the town, instead they did what ever they wanted. So my messy garden is their fault and they will be told that if they come knocking, funnily enough they never have though I wonder why...

Any excess general waste I take to the tip, last thing we need is rats, but usually we don't have any excess general waste my bin lid is up though alot of the time. People in my area fly tip in giant mountains across the road from us in 2 areas, we developed a major rat problem due to that. They have to keep coming out and moving the mountains. The rat problem is finally resolved at least.

Annielou67 · 26/06/2024 19:54

I get it. It’s annoying. We all have a responsibility to make our areas as nice to live in as possible, and not to cause a nuisance to our neighbours. A bin like that out for the week would annoy the hell out of me too. There are council rules round here about putting your bin out early and the lid closing. You aren’t specific though. Is that bin in their garden? If it is , you need to screen the area out of your sight. You could always complain about the smell/ rats etc. Or you could be kind and offer them space in your bin, or on your compost heap.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 19:49

I feel very sorry for you if you do! there are lots of lovely people on my street but we have a fair few who just don't or can't follow the bin and rubbish rules and of course this impacts on everybody.

Wow you are an utter delight.

I pity your neighbour's living next door to you if that's how you treat people.

You are being a snob and a particularly vile one at that.

Perhaps get a hobby that isn't policing people's wins and posting about it on the Internet.

Myotherrideisabroom · 26/06/2024 19:57

It's a good job you don't live in the same county as I do...... our bin collectors have been striking since the first week in December, with random and intermittent collections in between. My recycling bin hasn't been emptied for 6 weeks now. Despite numerous runs to the tip, our bins are still overflowing and will probably be expected for some time....

When not on strike, our bins are only emptied once a fortnight (recycling one week, household the following and so on) and we are only allowed one of each bin, we can't even buy another bin & they'd only take one anyway on bin day.

Beekeepingmum · 26/06/2024 20:00

You can tell a lot about an area by its bins. Nice area = no bins in sight other than collection day, Moderate area bins stored tidily by the house. Rough area = bins everywhere. It is a good indicator of how much people care about their home environment.

Rockmumontherun · 26/06/2024 20:00

We have a street WhatsApp for stuff like this - my bin is overflowing has anyone space in theirs they don't mind me using? Most people will say, that's fine chuck it in mine 😀. Could you perhaps offer space in your bin if theirs is overflowing. It would stop the litter blowing down the street.
