To find this disgusting?

There’s still a week before bin collection and this is the state of my neighbours.

This isn’t a one off. It’s constantly like this. Both normal and recycling. Sick of living near tramps that don’t care.

To find this disgusting?

It's not recyclable stuff I leave behind. It's mainly the one time use plastic.

I recycle lots of stuff and our binmen take piles of recycling left next to our recycling bin so I don't have concerns about overflowing recycling.

What everyone else manages to do!

But not everyone does manage, as this thread illustrates.

Needmorelego · 28/06/2024 09:20

@VeterinaryCareAssistant a lot of the packaging plastics can be recycled now. Some supermarkets have "soft plastic" recycling collections.
Apologies if this doesn't apply to you but I see it a lot in supermarkets where someone has removed loads of packaging (like the cardboard box a pizza comes in etc) but then just shoved it all in the customer bin by the door. Which defeats the whole purpose as none of that will get recycled.

I was just gonna leave this and not comment, but I'm not gonna ignore all the judgy Judy's! 1. A lot of England has big bins for recycling - which ALL their recycling goes into. If they're a big family they will have a lot more recycling than others

  1. As a disabled person, I've struggled numerous times to break down boxes, especially when my son was little. Do you know the whole dynamics of this family? Instead of judging, why not offer to help them?
Personally I have all my bins out the front, my old neighbour has a go one day about it, until my friend jumped in and said "she's disabled, are you gonna wheel her bin round the front every week"? He soon shut up.

Recycle more so less goes in the landfill bin

We recycled till our bins were full and no one came

So we take the recycling down to the tip and put it in the general waste bin.

I don't agree with recycling very much. Most just goes to landfill somewhere else. On the other hand, my house is full of recycled furniture (mostly Victoriana, which I like), I re-use jars, boxes and tubs for storage and I use paper for kindling in 4 open fires. But sort out tins for the bin men? No. The point of a refuse collection is the prevention of vermin and disease - and that should be the priority, hence I disagree with fortnightly collections, once a week minimum, please.

And also, will no-one think of future archaeologists? Where are they to get their information about us if there are no landfills or middens? Don't assume they can use our technology; it will be obsolete and most of its contents lost to time (as are some now, although it is possible still to get floppies etc read - I have done so - but this is by no means likely to be the case in 1000 years, or even 500). Support Future Archaeologists! Use landfill! (This is meant to be a joke btw - well, partly.)

Beezknees · 28/06/2024 17:12

I cannot imagine caring a jot about this. I don't think I'd even notice.

Yes they are too lazy to even break
down the cardboard boxes. I’m sure it would fit and close then.

gmor6787 · 29/06/2024 10:27

If my household bin or any bin for that matter is even slightly open it isn’t emptied. It has to be totally closed. Them’s the rules.

Twinkle8516 · 29/06/2024 15:17

OP, just be glad you don’t live in my borough. Our bin men have been off/on strike since Nov. We’ve got over flowing bins (household and recycling) and little strewn all over back lanes.
Think yourself lucky all you’ve got is a bin with an open lid.

RoseandTulip · 29/06/2024 17:48

I mean they obviously need to break down their cardboard but I don’t think that means they qualify as “trampa that don’t care” …

where did you get your binoculars? I need some

Normallynumb · 29/06/2024 17:58

Maybe they'll stamp it down before bin day
Where else are they supposed to put it
Recycling isn't collected from my communal bins anymore because idiots were contaminating it with normal rubbish
Every time this happens and they had to come back we were charged £200( private owned flats)
So I don't recycle anything now

T1Dmama · 04/07/2024 00:02

We don’t have wheelie bins yet… are you allowed to purchase extra bins?

We are allowed extra bins here.

One extra blue(recycling) and green(garden waste) bin are free, for total of two of each.

A second grey/black (general waste) or a 3rd green/blue bin costs extra. Not entirely sure but think around £65 per bin?

We do also have to pay an annual subscription just for the green bins to be collected fortnightly. It is £50/yr for first green bin and then £30/yr for each extra green bin up to a total of 3 green bins.
