To find this disgusting?

There’s still a week before bin collection and this is the state of my neighbours.

This isn’t a one off. It’s constantly like this. Both normal and recycling. Sick of living near tramps that don’t care.

To find this disgusting?

Living near tramps thats nasty to say you aint no better than anyone else.

MichaelFabricantsSyrup · 26/06/2024 18:32

Maybe they should just have a bonfire with it instead.

Tricho · 26/06/2024 18:34

imagine taking pictures of your neighbours bins and putting them online to slag them off with other strangers.

OP I'm mortified for you

My bins always look like that because they are now collected bi-weekly when they should be bloody collected weekly.

thesecondmrswogan · 26/06/2024 18:34

My neighbours are like this, but as they have no outside space they use my bins with my permission. I even bought an extra black bin to accommodate them. All they have to do is put their rubbish in the bin. They don't recycle so it's all in the one bag. Which they plonk in the blue bin. I had to get labels so they would stop, even though the blue bin lids have got "recycling only" stamped on their lids. They now do put the rubbish in the right bin, but I just came home to find a black bag sticking out of the smaller of the black bins so the lid wouldn't close, even though the bigger empty bin is right next to it. It's hard to believe some people are so stupid they can't use a bin, but they live upstairs from me. Perhaps they are related to your neighbours OP.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 17:17

What are they meant to do with their rubbish if the bins provided aren't big enough?
You should be angry at your council - not your neighbours.

I can't tell from this photo just how big/small this bin is but you can ask your council for a larger bin.

Also there is cardboard in that bin, if that could be recycled (don't know if their council collect for recycling) then the lid would shut

So there are some things that maybe they could do

Geekylover · 26/06/2024 18:41

We have a second bin at no extra cost as there are five of us and everyone has a ton of Amazon packaging etc. I didn’t think you should pay extra bins

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 18:41

@Purplebunnie maybe they've requested more bins.
Maybe the cardboard box is full of other cardboard.
The OP hasn't asked. Just taken a terrible photo and moaned.

sweetpickle2 · 26/06/2024 17:23

That pic is hilarious!

I wouldn't know how overflowing my neighbour's bins are because I don't spend all day nosing in their garden or taking incredibly zoomed in pics to try and shame them on the internet.

This 😅 It looks like this photo has been taken from a bedroom window absolutely miles away and then cropped. Who has time to pay that much attention?!

pontipinemum · 26/06/2024 18:49

Rubbish being blown out would piss me off!

If it's a regular thing they need to do something about it. Although I was surprised by someone who recently posted a 'hack' on how to fit more into the recycling bin - she broke up the boxes. She actually stapled some parts down too 🤔

SlothOnARope · 26/06/2024 18:50

YANBU OP and I thank you for posting.

People need to get real and stop living in the Dark Ages.

I guarantee none of these pilers-on do litterpicking every week and scoop the full nappies of other women's children off the street. If they did, they might be less keen to jump on with the snidey comments.

Full nappies deliberately placed in the path of traffic by parents.

People think it's absolutely fine to fill their bins to overflowing and leave it for some other pleb to pick up.

Mandatory food waste collections everywhere by 2026, no I really don't think that's going to happen Keir, is it.

The UK is still the dirty old man of Europe.

Schoolchoicesucks · 26/06/2024 18:51

My neighbours are the same OP and with their general waste bin.
It annoys me because if it's windy then it blows across my garden as the lid doesn't close.
And it looks pretty grim too. I mean, I know the bin itself isn't attractive, but overflowing bin with extra boxes around it that pile up in a week is worse.

For those asking "what are they meant to do if the council won't give them a bigger bin?". My suggestions are

  1. Shop better - buy things with less packaging
  2. Buy less - what are you buying that needs so much packaging?
  3. Crush your recycling so it fits in your bin better
  4. Pay for a commercial collection if you are running a business from home that generates all that extra recyclable packaging and disposing of it through residential waste
  5. Reuse some of it where you can, offer packaging boxes to people who ask for moving boxes etc
  6. Don't miss a bin collection and end up with a full bin at the start of a collection cycle
Pootle23 · 26/06/2024 18:51

Where we live the bin collectors won’t take bins with the lid open. If you need more than one bin you are assessed by the powers that be and it is decided if you can have one! Our poor neighbour got a letter because they didn’t put the bin the correct way round by their drive!

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/06/2024 18:51

whereisshadow · 26/06/2024 17:50

No my complaint is their bin is already overflowing with a week to go. It’s hot and it stinks. They allow the rubbish to just blow out into the street and onto other peoples property.

And what exactly do you expect them to do?

All you have done is moan but you havent given a single suggestion as to what they can do.

So come on, what is your solution?

Maka21 · 26/06/2024 18:52

Leaving it open will encourage maggots in the warmer weather! Experienced this once before. Best to push it down as much as you can.

whereisshadow · 26/06/2024 18:53

CollyBobble · 26/06/2024 17:58

How do you know it isn't someone else that's added to their bin?

Well it’s been happening for months. Weird for someone to keep targeting the bin.

OP posts:
Topofthemountain · 26/06/2024 18:55

There is a house local to me who on recycling bin day has the bin out plus at least 4 large clear sacks every time. I presume they are actually collected but I really want to know what they are doing to generate that much recycling.

It is every fortnight, not just the odd one off.

plimbow · 26/06/2024 18:55

My neighbours are the same, no pride in their bins. They nicked my lovely clean Bin Buddied bin, took my number stickers off and replaced it with their filthy, maggoty bin.

I knicked it back and painted my number on, inside and out, just in case.

Bin louts, the lot of 'em.

Push it down properly. Speak to the council. Pay for another bin.

I guess as someone who doesn’t do things like that and cares about where I live and wouldn’t expect others to put up with anti social behaviour or picking up rubbish or knowingly allowed to continuously go on their property - I don’t expect other people to solve my problems.

Oh and please don't post this on my local Facebook group, they are already convinced that the streets will be knee deep in rubbish once we go to fortnightly collections.

Have you read any of the suggestions on the thread, thought to make any of your own or just come here to tell OP they're wrong?

What do you do when your bin is full?
What would you do if your bin was full every fortnight?

Bignanna · 26/06/2024 18:57

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 17:32

it looks like they're not compacting anything or even trying to do anything to help the situation.

i would think reporting them to Environmental Health would be your best option.

I agree, I find the tolerant attitude to the state of that bin annoying. It takes a minute or two to flatten boxes and tear up card.

downwithmaterialistdogma · 26/06/2024 18:58

Name and shame on Facebook. And make sure you spell it as 'discusting' 😘

Definitelynotem · 26/06/2024 18:58

Where we live you’re not allowed to request another/a bigger bin unless there’s a lot of people living in your household. I couldn’t get myself wound up about this
