My husband has the heating on

We're in a small flat in the UK and it's boiling. He's washed some clothes and decided to put the heating on to dry them over the radiators.

"We" tried drying them over a drying rack next to an open window and he decided that they smelled bad after 30 mins so washed them again.

Now every radiator in the flat is blasting out heat and I've got a headache. He won't turn them off.

Is this normal?? Im so pissed off!

This is crazy! It is boiling hot here!
Go and check if he has a fever....

He doesn't get physical, apart from two times when he was really drunk. But, I just feel like it's his way or nothing. He is a good husband though.

He's not a good husband.

The heating on to dry laundry is the least of your problems.

I hope you will stop thinking of him as a good husband and consider getting away from this violent, controlling man.

Reason 73776 why I’m single. What a selfish pig.

WinterInTheAutumn · 25/06/2024 17:23

Is he insane! They’d dry in no time against an open window!

Lastyoungrenegade · 25/06/2024 17:25

Investing in a good dehumidifier is the best thing I've ever done for drying washing. Pop the washing in a room with windows and doors closed, dehumidifier on, washing dry by the end of the day even in winter. It's brilliant and doesn't leave the washing smelling damp.

Clearly the washing is the least of your problems though. He definitely doesn't sound like a good man OP.

No he isn't.

Oh good god, he's really, REALLY not a good husband at all. Drying clothes, I imagine, is the least of your problems.

Silviasilvertoes · 25/06/2024 17:28

We had the heating on last week, but we’re in rural Wales and it has been raining for weeks and it was freezing so we were drying the house out. If DH put the heating on now it’s sunny and finally warm I don’t know what I’d do to him, but I would not be amused.

duende · 25/06/2024 17:29

Is he going to put the heating on after every wash load?
Commiserations OP, he doesn’t sound reasonable.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/06/2024 17:29

The price of gas he’d probably be better off dry cleaning. Sorry OP I’d override him and switch it off or divorce - heating in this heat would kill me.

Uricon2 · 25/06/2024 17:31

He's not a good husband. The getting physical when drunk (or otherwise) is proof of that, the insanity of having heating on at the moment is a side issue.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 25/06/2024 17:32

If your opinion counts for nothing and he's made you so physically uncomfortable on an already hot day that you develop a headache, he really isn't a good husband.

Not normal - LTB

JustRollWithIt · 25/06/2024 17:35

Another vote here for dehumidifier with clothes setting. Pop it in the smallest room with door and window closed. He sounds very hard to live with )o:

AlphabetBird · 25/06/2024 17:35

Nope, not a good husband. Not a good person.

rainbowstardrops · 25/06/2024 17:36

He's batshit.

Isometimeswonder · 25/06/2024 17:37

Who pays the bills? I wouldn't be wasting my money

Irridescantshimmmer · 25/06/2024 17:37

I just open every window and my washing dries indoors in about 12 hours

Skyrainlight · 25/06/2024 17:42

That is not normal. My husband it the opposite, he wakes up in the morning and opens all windows to let the cool air in, once it's nice fresh and cool he closes the windows, then closes all curtains on the sunny side of the house to keep the heat out. It's a little annoying but our house is lovely and cool. Sorry you are stuck in a sauna.

ManchesterLu · 25/06/2024 17:43

What temperature does he actually have to put it on for it to even come on in this weather? It's 26 in our house at the moment, and I've never had the heating that high in my life!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/06/2024 17:44

Get a dehumidifier.

UtopiaPlanitia · 25/06/2024 17:46

I agree with PPs; I have a Meaco Arete dehumidifier and it gets even towels dry in a few hours.

My commiserations on your headache 💐

randomusernam · 25/06/2024 17:48

Come on you know it's not normal. Grown a back bone and turn the heating off yourself.
