Boyfriend wanted to borrow money the day before my birthday.

Been stewing on this since Saturday. It was my birthday yesterday. Boyfriend of 5 years gave me a card. We would normally do presents around £30-£50.

On Saturday evening, he asked me to lend him a few hundred until he gets paid on Friday. He cancelled plans to go out for the day with me yesterday because he didn’t have the money. I said we could do something free but he didn’t want to. I met a friend instead.

He picks up as much or as little work as he wants. Fairly well paid per hour but doesn’t work many hours. There’s no reason for him to be skint except laziness.

AIBU to be upset by this lack of effort? To top it off, he’s just said he wants something costing about £1k for his birthday in a couple of months. I laughed at him, thinking it was a joke, now he’s sulking.

Ummm so why are you with him? Sounds like a freeloader !

Iloveacurry · 24/06/2024 21:27

You know what to do. Dump him.

travelforthesoul · 24/06/2024 21:27

I hope you didnt lend him any money. Ditch this freeloader.

TheFoz · 24/06/2024 21:27

Did he get you a gift? Did you loan him the money?

NalafromtheLionKing · 24/06/2024 21:27

Get your money back then dump.

Beautifulbythebay · 24/06/2024 21:28

Get your money back then dump.

Definitely do this.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 24/06/2024 21:29

So he got you fuck all, didn't spend the day with you and then requested a gift costing a grand for his birthday? Yeah...no.

Springwatch123 · 24/06/2024 21:30

Has this incident pulled the wool from your eyes, and you’ve awoken to what he’s really like? He doesn’t sound like a catch, if he’s borrowing money before your birthday (did he get you a present?), didn’t value you on your birthday, and then expects a £1k present!

What’s your long term plans? Don’t want children? If so, don’t have them with this man. He’s not reliable.

why isn’t he earning more? Does he live with you?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/06/2024 21:31

I had one that did that. Borrowed £30, disappeared for four hours, came back with a card he couldn't be arsed to write in and an ornamental cabbage. Was most hurt when I asked what the fuck happened to the other £27.01.

Bin him before the birthday. It doesn't get any better.

BabyFedUp445 · 24/06/2024 21:34

Is he paying you back this Friday? Wait until then to break up with him. He's an arsehole.

Hinkuy · 24/06/2024 21:34

Oh my god and you're still with him? He sounds like a total loser. Dump him!

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 24/06/2024 21:35

Dump him. Stop wasting your tine.

ChristmasCwtch · 24/06/2024 21:38

Laziness and entitlement are both so unattractive!!

Wait till you get your money back and then in the bin with him!! Buy yourself something fabulous instead

We need to know more about the cabbage!

OhcantthInkofaname · 24/06/2024 21:43

I hope that you have come to the realization that you've wasted 5 years on this twat. Don't waste another day.

viques · 24/06/2024 21:44

I am not sure if you lent him the money , but if you did, were you hoping he would use your money to buy your birthday present? Here’s a tip, next time cut out the middle man, and buy your own present, one that you want.

I hope you and your friend had a good time on our birthday 🎂🍹

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 24/06/2024 21:57

@classactorintraining so what did he do with the £200 you lent him??? and he expects you to spend 1k on his birthday!! thank goodness he is away to be your ex!!!

Comingupriver · 24/06/2024 21:58

Happy birthday! The best gift you can give yourself is a future without this loser. Run, run fast and go enjoy your life.

Cherrysoup · 24/06/2024 21:59

He seriously thinks you’re gonna spend £1K on his birthday when he could have earned more by simply picking up more hours?! Why are you with this total loser?

Gillypie23 · 24/06/2024 22:09

Dump the lazy freeloader.

bluebeck · 24/06/2024 22:12

Why is your self esteem so low that you would tolerate being used like this?

Did you have awful parents?

Bin him and block. And don’t you dare spend another penny on this piece of shit!
