WHERE is the sun?!! It is ludicrous, I don't remember a June like this for years and I keep depressing myself with the fucking BBC weather app. They promised sunshine and warmth and now they are saying rain, rain, rain. How on earth is anyone supposed to cope? I am going to Barcelona in a few weeks, and I am counting the seconds. AARGH!

Very hot & sunny in Yorkshire, 26 degrees today.
Si thi! ☀️

BrendaSmall · 24/06/2024 13:58

I’ve recently been abroad for 2 weeks, came home and weather was no better than before I went away, so I booked another 2 weeks which I came back from just now!
the weather in the UK is absolutely shite!!!

AlpineMuesli · 24/06/2024 14:01

Does anyone actually like thick grey cloud + hot and humid?

SoundTheSirens · 24/06/2024 14:02

Alittlefrustrated · 24/06/2024 13:53

NE England here - very hot and sunny, too hot infact.

Safe to say you’re not in my bit…

This weather!! I could SCREAM!!
SallyWD · 24/06/2024 14:04

I'm in Yorkshire and it's boiling. Very sunny and too hot to stay in the garden for long. I'm actually lying down feeling quite exhausted because of it. But not complaining!

Mothership4two · 24/06/2024 14:07

Muggy and overcast in Hampshire. BBC forecast it to be sunny today here.

Not sure what you wanted from this thread OP? Yes the weather has been crap this year I agree - is that what you wanted?

Not to be a Debbie Downer but, to put things in context, recently hundreds of people have died from heatwaves around the world.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 24/06/2024 13:38

I'm in Cornwall and feel as you do OP. Absolutely desperate! I feel like I just can't cope with another winter after a summer like this, but I have absolutely no choice! I can't afford a holiday so haven't even got that to pep me up a bit. It stinks.

Me too!! Looks like even the "heatwave" (aka "normal summer weather") is going to pass us by - maximum 23 degrees for us, and back to rain on Thursday. I hear you OP, it affects your mental health coming off the back of 18 months of rain and misery.
Anyone who thinks moving to the SW for better weather is a good idea is clearly deluded!

Royaly82 · 24/06/2024 14:07

Ive Just got the pool out in surrey 🤷‍♀️

Humid no.

But a bit overcast is nicer than scorching sun.
Especially if there's a breeze, that's perfect.

hopelessbusiness · 24/06/2024 14:09

Warmish but overcast today in Cornwall. No sign of the sun.
Work wardrobe still revolves around cardigans. Rubbish.
Seriously cannot take another another Autumn/Winter without some decent weather to break it up a bit.

Jacopo · 24/06/2024 14:09

East coast of Scotland here, it’s been lovely for the last three days.

Mothership4two · 24/06/2024 14:10

Feel the same or a mild evening after a warm day

chillidoritto · 24/06/2024 14:12

It’s been a lovely few days in the north west

watermelonsugar56 · 24/06/2024 14:13

It’s not been very good at all yet. Hoping for some more sunny days in July. At least it’s not cold today xx

Curlygirl06 · 24/06/2024 14:13

MsLuxLisbon · 24/06/2024 12:47

Comments seem to be getting more realistic. The people who say it's 'too hot' are really annoying me lol. Take a cool shower or something! It's hardly 50 degrees! I actually normally love cool autumnal weather and look forward to it every September, but not if I've had no summer. I literally could weep. I really, really need to think about moving somewhere warmer.

I'm in Wiltshire, and it's cloudy, overcast, looks like it'll rain (probably on the school run!) The weather was supposed to be heading towards 30°, I've just power washed the decking with a coat on!
To be fair, I grew up in a hot country but this summer has pissed me off, not been out without a coat or jacket this year yet. Mind you, it's got to be bloody boiling before that happens but still, today's weather is not what I was hoping for.

Isitisit · 24/06/2024 14:16

I’ll swap with someone who has rain and cloud please! I’m 8 months pregnant with a massive baby and polyhydramnios so am not coping well in the heat 🥵

MrsSunshine2b · 24/06/2024 14:17

MsLuxLisbon · 24/06/2024 13:45

Oh FFS. It isn't 'small talk' because I was talking about how it has been affecting my mental health. I didn't put (lighthearted) There have been so many threads like this with people having a good moan, none of them have drawn so much downright obtuseness as this one.

"WHERE is the sun?!! AARGH!"

That doesn't read like someone experiencing a mental health crisis, just someone having a strop because of shit weather. That's fine, I doubt there's many people in the UK who haven't been a bit fed up of it this year, but if it's really having a negative impact on your health I would suggest booking an appt with your GP as that's a very extreme response to a slow start to the summer.

I'm sure if you'd been asking for advice on how to protect your mental health from bad weather, rather than just having a little rant about the rain, the responses would have been somewhat different.

JacquesHarlow · 24/06/2024 14:18

OP @MsLuxLisbon you keep saying you're "venting". You keep saying you want sympathy etc.

WHY go on AIBU then? You conveniently ignored my post where I quite rightly pointed out that the type of replies you are getting, are commensurate with the forum you have posted on.

You live in Scotland!! You are going to have variable and sometimes poor weather.

I live in Surrey. I don't have the beautiful landscapes, buzzing city or friendly people etc, or the great art and music heritage... but I've got the weather. I don't complain when it's hot like today, because I know what I was in for when I moved here.

aridiculousargument · 24/06/2024 14:18

MsLuxLisbon · 24/06/2024 12:30

All the people who say I'm BU, just you wait until it clouds over where you are! I keep thinking that summer has finally arrived, and then you get about two hours of sunshine and then hours and hours of this horrible grey. It is so so bad for my mental health, just foul.

Then I think leaving Glasgow is what you may need to consider

Floorbard · 24/06/2024 14:20

It’s so hot in my part of Scotland that my washing is already dry- I put it out a few hours ago! Had to buy a sun shade for my baby’s pram as well

askmenow · 24/06/2024 14:20

MsLuxLisbon · 24/06/2024 12:34

We haven't had a summer as bad as this in years. Luckily, I get to spend some time of the year in London, but this year I've had more to do up here so have been stuck. I find your response very unhelpful.

Oh dear and then telling us that the UK has supposedly had the warmest May on record....WHEN??
I believe they said it was the nights. Yeh right!

If meteriologists were on performance related pay they'd be out of pocket!

Alondra · 24/06/2024 14:21

It's freezing in Sydney, just 4 degrees.

(trying to cheer all up) 😉

TerfTalking · 24/06/2024 14:21

I’m laid in the dark in West Yorkshire after a four mile walk with the dog over the moors (don’t worry there are countless water pools and streams where he could submerge himself
and have a drink).

I am absolutely roasted though and very glad I put SPF50 on, forgetting a hat was stupid as I now have a headache.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 14:21

MsLuxLisbon · 24/06/2024 13:49

As I type this, the sun is very gradually coming out and I feel a smile forming on my face. I think I will go out and hope it continues to improve. Thanks to everyone who understood my point. As for the rest of you, you'll see what I mean soon enough once the heatwave ends and we're back to rain, or if it doesn't end and you get weeks of relentless heat, you'll maybe appreciate what weather can do to mental health and try not kicking someone when they're donw.

Forecast is it may be coming and going a bit, so don't be downcast if it clouds over again for a bit.

I think some people may not realise that the weather really can have a big effect on our health, mental and physical. Presumably everyone has heard of SAD? And knows that natural morning light resets our body clock?
It's probably worth getting outside for a bit in the morning even if it isn't good weather, I suspect... but so much less pleasant.
