How would you feel if your partner came abroad with no money?

You'd booked the flights and accommodation in advance. He didn't bring any cash, only a credit card which doesn't work in that country. Has savings of several thousand but couldn't even dip into them for say £100.

Obviously dipping into savings is unwise, but knowingly going abroad with 0 spending money is unfair to the other person no?

This happened to me twenty years ago. Boyfriend forgot to go and get euros in advance of the holiday and told me on the way to the airport. He had a debit card with him but couldn't remember the PIN. The only thing he could pay for all week was shopping in the one supermarket that would still accept a signature on the receipt if it matched the one on the back of the debit card. It put a dampener on the whole holiday. I just couldn't stop worrying and feeling annoyed all week.

what kind of credit card does he have that doesn't work in certain countries? Sounds a bit off to me. If he can't transfer funds to you from his savings account then tell him you'll give him a certain amount of spends for himself & he'll pay you that back as soon as you get home. Don't buy bits & bobs here & there for him as it'll be so hard to keep track of what he owes you. Give him a lump sum & let him pay his half of everything while you're away then he refunds you the total amount you've gave him.

Which credit card doesn’t work abroad?

This!!! I’m hearing excuses!! How long have you been together? I would be packing my bags I’m afraid……and not to go on holiday!!!🤣

GoldEagle · 26/06/2024 14:05

This is horseshit, bank/savings account you cannot access and the doozy, a credit card that doesn't work abroad. He is taking the piss.

@Iwilldestroyyou345

It would be nice if you would come back and let us know what the resolution to this situation was. I do acknowledge that you don't have to if you don't want to.

Unless this was a reverse and the OP is the one who came with no cash?

Sweden99 · 26/06/2024 22:59

Hey!
Guess what everyone! We do not know the nation, if this was out of character, whether he usually pays for her!
See you again in a page time :D

countcalculia · 26/06/2024 23:09

It depends. My dp (now dh) was and is extremely generous normally so if he came on holiday with no money I’d just call him a weirdo and pay for everything for him.

If it was a newish partner who has already showed signs of tightness, I’d tell him I only have enough money for me so he’ll have to get a relative or friend to do a money transfer for him.

BowlOfNoodles · 29/06/2024 07:20

Hes a user 😔

Amsx · 29/06/2024 07:42

Maybe it's an Amex. They're rubbish.

I wouldn't pay for anything for him. Let him solve it.
