To think that the majority of trans people are neurodivergent

...and I sort of think it's a form of neurodivergence in itself.

By the way I'm trans affirmative.

I don't think I've met a trans person who I thought was neurotypical.

How is someone born in the wrong body? Do you believe in souls?

The trans people I know have all been abused.

That’s so sad.

Fantapops · 22/06/2024 22:56

I was actually just scrolling through TikTok and it summed it up perfectly:

'Do any other autistic women feel like they're not actually women because they don't feel human?'

Imagine feeling like that - of course there's a huge overlap with trans identity. Being a neurodivergent woman is so much more than not fitting in, it's like living on a strange planet and not understanding so much of what is going on even though you've been here your entire life.

For me it was so much easier to create a whole entire persona for myself that could get away with being a bit odd due to being trans, than to be a weird woman. Now I am just a weird woman it is 10x more difficult. At least being transgender gave me a legitimately obvious reason to not fit in, now I'm just a weirdo.

I know five trans or nb teenagers through my work, ranging from 14 to 19 years old.

Every one of them is nd. This cannot be a coincidence.

Same! Definitely all ND, one so far undiagnosed but imo, definitely on the spectrum. How interesting.

One of my very close friends in school is/was trans. She was sexually abused by her stepdad when she was a child and when she became a teenager she began transitioning to male. She’s currently in therapy and has realised that the reason she wanted to transition was subconsciously because of the sexual abuse: to escape the gender that attracted the abuse. She’s now in the process of detransitioning and healing, but it is extremely complicated and slow. One thing she’s working on at the moment is using she/her pronouns again.

Obviously this isn’t the case for many trans people, but in my friend’s case, abuse absolutely ‘caused being trans’.

I wish your friend so much love and support.

I really hope she heals soon and can move on to a happier and healthy life.

LordPercyPercy · 22/06/2024 22:57

No, I believe in a fundamentally male brain, with a most likely hormone-related slip up during late pregnancy that caused there to be a vagina, not balls and a dick.

Doubtful.

Fantapops · 22/06/2024 22:58

There's also an element of people seeing trans people as a bit of a novelty and because of that you're more included. When you're just a neurodivergent woman you're actively excluded. It's a whole different ball game, I'm still adjusting to living as a neurodivergent woman and it's fucking hard.

that would come under I identify with the bullshit stereotypes of the opposite sex- therefore I believe I actually am the opposite sex. it's so regressive the whole ideology. nobody knows what it feels like to feel anything other than themselves- you do not feel your sex other than obvious biological stuff and the way you're treated because of your sex. but you have nothing to measure this gender identity against- it's pure religion. it's unfalsifiable, like religion, but, Jeez it's nonsense

Alwayswonderedwhy · 22/06/2024 22:59

Yanbu. The only trans people I know well are teens I've known since birth or very young. They're all either ND or experienced childhood trauma. I think in some cases being trans is a way of trying to reinvent yourself and/or detach from past experiences.

Agree. I do think legitimately transgender people exist but I also completely agree with this.

BustyCrustacean · 22/06/2024 23:00

and I'd say live and let live but it's dangerous nonsense both for the believer and for the rest of us.

But that's magical thinking and has no basis in reality.
What things do only male brains think of or believe?
Can you have a male kidney or liver if you're female?

Why can't you just be a woman that likes stereotypically male things?

@Diverze that's really interesting. What do you think led to that shift around 2015 onwards?

The internet.

Pantaloons99 · 22/06/2024 23:03

@Fantapops when I read this I just feel sad. I'm not passionately angry about the subject. I understand there are elements of it one should be very passionately against so as not to railroad certain liberties we have.
Overall my feeling is sadness and empathy tbh.

When I watch any debates online I often see young people getting verbally torn apart by the anti trans agenda as their arguments just cannot stand up in any way. When I see that I feel sad almost. Many people are just vulnerable.

SlipperSliders · 22/06/2024 20:23

What about LGBTQ+ ....what does the Q stand for??

It stands for queer and many people happily identify as queer.

LordPercyPercy · 22/06/2024 23:04

Read up about the differences in male and female brain.

Firstly, most evidence suggests that there really isn't much.

Secondly, how could anyone possibly know that they somehow had the brain of a member of the opposite sex? There's no test, no possible evidence. There's just assuming you must be because you don't comform to gender stereotype.

It is sad. It's very very sad. Neither the militantly pro or the incredibly anti trans movements have done anything to protect the most vulnerable groups identifying as trans: trans youth who are largely ND. Usually they're just used as a token to argue over instead. Absolutely nobody looks out for their well-being. It's absolutely crap.

AgathaAllAlong · 22/06/2024 23:06

SlipperSliders · 22/06/2024 20:20

OK. What's your point?

I think that any difference in people is picked up on at a young age and that is an easy targeted for bullies and abusers.

I hope you're not ignorant enough to think that being abused causes being trans.

I'm sorry but it's deranged to start a thread like this and then accuse posters of ignorance when they suggest contributing factors.

The correlation between abuse and being trans has been researched. Of course abuse doesn't single handedly "cause" people to be trans, but it isn't difficult to speculate on why it might be a contributing factor. Psychological, sexual or physical abuse are well known to make victims hate their bodies and dissociate from their bodies, to start with.
