Starmer, JKR, what's most important to most women?

1000 replies

PupInAPram · 22/06/2024 13:14

In my more than 60 years, decades of being a single working parent, many experiences of being on the bones of my arse, Labour Party policies have made huge beneficial differences in my day-to-day life. Worrying if there is a man in the next toilet or feeling uncomfortable with a trans woman has literally never been on my radar. If I'm making a decision about voting for the politician who can bring about the greatest good for the greatest number, it's Starmer every time. I wish JKR would just pipe down.

What about one that wasn’t obvious ?

What about one that wasn’t obvious ?

If she hasn’t consented to intimate care from a male it is a potential assault. If a vulnerable patient was misled into believing they were getting same sex care then that may be an offence.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/06/2024 17:28

WallaceinAnderland · 22/06/2024 17:25

Cripes, there's 532 of us now.

And that half a woman, still slacking off.

I may be that half. I'm 5'11" with short hair and I don't wear make up but do mostly wear clothes which could belong to either sex. Sorry, I'll pull my (big-footed, size 8) socks up!

SnakesAndArrows · 22/06/2024 16:39

I don’t even know where to begin with this nonsense.

Presumably your whole town isn’t a member? So of those who aren’t members, do you know why each of them isn’t a member?

The place has been open for at least 30 years and I haven’t heard anyone even mention that aspect of it, of course I don’t know what every single person in the community thinks or does, but you can usually get a feel, and it’s generally just not been a thing.

It actually wouldn’t be my preference, I’d prefer women only (including trans women) but my point was that shared spaces like this have been around for a long time, they haven’t just been introduced with gender recognition reforms.

Buntycat · 22/06/2024 17:29

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 17:25

What about one that wasn’t obvious ?

If she hadn’t known or suspected that the carer was a male, it wouldn't have worried her, would it? But if I had known I would have objected on her behalf.

Wheresthebeach · 22/06/2024 17:30

Woman’s rights should be our absolute focus with this election.

SatoshiNakamoto · 22/06/2024 17:30

Who are the TW that aren’t obviously men? Even the famous ones that have spent a shed load on plastic surgery look like feminised men. We are mammals - we know instinctively who is male and female because how else would we procreate?

Clarabell77 · 22/06/2024 17:31

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/06/2024 17:17

@SergeantDawkins

Trans women are men. All fucking day long. You cannot change biology. They can call themselves whatever they like but they really shouldn't expect other people to play their silly games.

So aggressive! Are you on the gin already?

PurpleSparkledPixie · 22/06/2024 17:31

greengreyblue · 22/06/2024 16:26

Trans men have gone through major heartache and taken hormones and undergone life changing surgery just to molest women? Yeah righto.

No cross sex hormones needed.
No surgery required.
Nothing.

Just saying "I am a woman" apparently changes their sex. Transwomen are biological men, usually with everything still intact. At best they are transwomen but they are not, nor ever will be, a woman.

GailBlancheViola · 22/06/2024 17:31

What about one that wasn’t obvious ?

How about respecting a woman's right to have single sex care? Why is that something TW cannot do? Are they really so utterly disrespectful of women and so determined to disregard women's boundaries?

That's not a great usp is it?

Velicirapitor · 22/06/2024 17:32

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 17:21

Not brilliant. Sadly. Missing a crucial word. WERE

No you are spectacularly missing the point. A man can’t turn himself into a woman, no matter what.

illinivich · 22/06/2024 17:32

Buntycat · 22/06/2024 17:29

If she hadn’t known or suspected that the carer was a male, it wouldn't have worried her, would it? But if I had known I would have objected on her behalf.

Edited

Even women who need personal care have a right to consent.

Edit: written before your edit

I already am. Your main complaint was women discussing on mn

Is it just here or everywhere? Should all women stop speaking about this non issue?

If so how will you get the change you’re after? Ie no men in female sports or refuges.

that wasn’t the question.

MrsSunshine2b · 22/06/2024 17:35

You will not get a balanced or informed view on Mumsnet- it is well known as a hotbed of transphobia and the owners have made only very weak attempts to tackle it.

The vast majority of ordinary people do not care about trans people, it's not as if it's not entirely possible for a man identifying as a man to walk into a woman's toilets if they so choose anyway. Nearly all trans people just want to be left alone to be who they are without being harassed for it. You get predatory trans people no more often than you get predatory cis people.

JKR is clearly traumatised by her experiences with men and seems to enjoy the attention she gets from punching down to an already marginalised and vulnerable group. It's a shame she's decided to destroy her own legacy, but she can have her opinion- I (and many other people) will just stop paying attention to her or buying anything related to her.

And yes, I have 2 daughters, I am not in the least bit concerned about them being in a cubicle next door to a trans woman.

Fidelius · 22/06/2024 17:35

CassieMaddox · 22/06/2024 15:30

You have absolutely no idea why he's not supporting Rosie Duffield. There is enough in the public domain about some of her other views and issues with her staff for me to think that "It's because he's a misogynist" or "it's because she's GC" are too simplistic.

To listen to women on here, you'd think Duffield was some kind of saint. The reality appears to be she's a not very effective MP who was happy to say "women have cervixes" at a controversial time ConfusedThere appears to be a bit of "cult of personality" going on.

The point is Starmer trotted out a reference to Blair’s confirmation of what Duffield had already said, with no mention of the fact that Rosie Duffield had been pilloried and investigated by her party for saying precisely the same thing.
Pretty clear her constituents saw something in her abilities as an MP, despite gossip on social media from an ex employee.

Kandalama · 22/06/2024 17:22

Not for woman's rights and safety
They are the only party to not be derailed by Stonewall.

What have they done to support women’s rights and safety?

WinterInTheAutumn · 22/06/2024 17:37

This is the movement JKR is trying to stop! Posted just today.

The small ‘quivering’ minority who HATE us! I’ve read countless posts much worse than this!

Our voice needs to be collective to stop this! Thank goodness JKR is NOT afraid to speak out against this, to show others the vile things they post!

Starmer, JKR, what's most important to most women?

Or possibly, righteous anger?

heathspeedwell · 22/06/2024 17:37

@MrsSunshine2b how would you feel if your daughters had to share changing rooms with a 6 foot 4 male person like Lia Thomas?

Girls as young as 13 have said in interviews how scared they felt when he was looming over them with a boner.

EasternStandard · 22/06/2024 17:38

KarenOH · 22/06/2024 17:34

that wasn’t the question.

It’s my question. Which you seem very reluctant to answer

I don’t know how you can complain about women speaking on a non issue at the same time as wanting females to have their own sports and refuges

Who do you think is doing the work for you?

Women and many not on here. Whilst you hamper the change

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/06/2024 17:38

Trans men have gone through major heartache and taken hormones and undergone life changing surgery just to molest women? Yeah righto.

I presume you mean transwomen? And you know that the vast majority of them do not have their bits chopped off, right?

334bu · 22/06/2024 17:38

It actually wouldn’t be my preference, I’d prefer women only (including trans women

Rather a convoluted way to say mixed sex 🤔

Clarabell77 · 22/06/2024 17:39

heathspeedwell · 22/06/2024 16:36

@Clarabell77 it's absolutely no biggie if another woman is temporarily confused and thinks I might be male - I would much rather someone is looking out for all women and girls. It's also immediately obvious that I'm female when I start talking.

Women are really good at telling each other's gender. It's male people who are statistically much more likely to be confused by appearances.

So you’d just tell them you’re a woman and go about your business? I would imagine that’s exactly what a trans woman would do.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/06/2024 17:39

So aggressive! Are you on the gin already?

I think the already on the gin drinkers are the ones insisting men can become women.

I’m not answering it because it was irrelevant to my post. You don’t know what my views are and frankly, they aren’t your business.
my post was simply pointing out that in terms of voting, the majority of women will not be single issue voters about it and MN is not an accurate representation of that.
