Starmer, JKR, what's most important to most women?

1000 replies

PupInAPram · 22/06/2024 13:14

In my more than 60 years, decades of being a single working parent, many experiences of being on the bones of my arse, Labour Party policies have made huge beneficial differences in my day-to-day life. Worrying if there is a man in the next toilet or feeling uncomfortable with a trans woman has literally never been on my radar. If I'm making a decision about voting for the politician who can bring about the greatest good for the greatest number, it's Starmer every time. I wish JKR would just pipe down.

I can't speak for anyone else but I 100% would be voting Labour if it weren't for this issue.

Yep. Same here.

And if you look outside mn you’ll see it’s headlining on various outlets and radio

Precisely! The right wing media will use this to manipulate people's perceptions against Labour. JKR has provided the media with a springboard for them to launch their attack. People will fall for it. Why anyone can't see this is beyond me.

Good luck with the next 5 years of Conservative government. Hope you're ready for it. Let's see how life improves for women under the Tories shall we - the past 14 years have been great haven't they🙈

No attack would be needed if Labour supported woman’s rights!
That’s over half the population they don’t give a toss about.

So.. the ideal government would do what exactly to support a trans woman who has been abused by a man? How will they protect her? She can’t go to a “women’s” shelter.

My point is we keep trying to fit a non-binary concept into our binary world. The answer is to change the world not change or deny the people.

Since they're biologically male they'd need to access services for male victims of DV which exist and are sensitive, practical and therapeutic just like women's services. There may even be services exclusively for trans people, Google seems to suggest so.

Why would transwomen feel it was appropriate to insist on being accommodated in services designed for biological women, most of whom will have been traumatised by biological men with penises (over 95% of TWs retain their genitalia)? How is that sensitive to the female victims of DV? Why would they want to further traumatise their alleged cohort? For the sake of being validated? Are these women supposed to 'be kind' and accept a man into their single sex 'safe' space? Why?

Gender ideology is not the same as sexuality. It's not the same as saying 'you wouldn't exclude a gay person, how intolerant' etc.

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/06/2024 17:17

@SergeantDawkins

Trans women are men. All fucking day long. You cannot change biology. They can call themselves whatever they like but they really shouldn't expect other people to play their silly games.

MrsClownland · 22/06/2024 17:18

Starmer has brought this criticism on himself - it was his choice whether to be brave or to lie about women having penises etc.

Chersfrozenface · 22/06/2024 13:22

OP, in not too many years you may well need to be an inpatient in a hospital or need personal / intimate care.

How would you feel about an obviously male HCP with a badge that says "she/her" treating / examining you? Or an obviously male carer with the same badge toiletting and washing you?

Absolutely right. My 95-year-old mother, in a nursing home, was upset if she ever had to be toileted or washed by male carers. We requested that it should always be females and they tried to accommodate this. She would never in a million years have understood that she had to agree that someone she could tell was a man had to be called a woman, and would have been dreadfully upset to receive intimate care from an obvious transwoman.

The Tories have spent 14 years demonstrably making life worse for women.

No, I'm a Labour voter normally and won't vote Tory. But I can't vote Labour as long as they perpetuate this dangerous nonsense.

Like JKR, I'm checking out the independent candidates.

The only problem is will they have enough of a voice in Parliament to make a difference.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/06/2024 16:42

What is the only requirement you need to be, to be a transwoman. You literally can't be one unless you are this....

A man.

Brilliant 👏👏👏

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 17:20

Meanwhile Farage is a massive sexist too.

Labour will do more for women in society overall.

Not for woman's rights and safety
They are the only party to not be derailed by Stonewall.

heathspeedwell · 22/06/2024 17:22

I used to put a sign in my garden saying Vote Labour regularly. When they contacted me to ask if I would this time I had to explain why I couldn't support a party that isn't supporting women and girls.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/06/2024 17:23

You can't change sex. Transwomen are men.

GailBlancheViola · 22/06/2024 17:23

And how did they magically change from one sex to the other - there is a Nobel Prize up for grabs for you for the definitive explanation, it would truly be world shattering.

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/06/2024 17:24

@pleasehelpwi3 oh shhh your nonsense trying to suggest homophobia where there is none. Very telling though.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/06/2024 17:24

One can't go from one to the other. The thing is believe this all you want. Loads of people in the world believe things that aren't true.

You just don't get to insist it for others, and to the detriment of women.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/06/2024 17:24

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 16:48

Also not what it means. 👏🏻👏🏻

Interesting how you aren’t offering an explanation simply telling us we are wrong. It’s almost like you don’t respect the right of women to define ourselves as different from biological males (the majority of whom are intact biological males) who have attempted to co-opt womanhood for their own ego.
Women are not human shields for biological males facing prejudice from other biological males.
The vast majority of physical and sexual violence is committed by biological males on each other and on women. Woman have a legitimate reason for not wanting males in situations where they may be vulnerable no matter how harmless that particular male may be in reality.

GailBlancheViola · 22/06/2024 17:24

I am still waiting to be enlightened on the denying existence question.

334bu · 22/06/2024 17:24

The Tories have spent 14 years demonstrably making life worse for women.

So tell Labour to get their fingers out of their ears and listen to the 51% of the population that needs single sex services.

WallaceinAnderland · 22/06/2024 17:25

Cripes, there's 532 of us now.

And that half a woman, still slacking off.

Really? I thought transwomen were under the impression, that they were women trapped in the wrong body.

illinivich · 22/06/2024 17:25

Its only a minor or side issue when looking at it from a woman or safeguarding issue. Nobody thinks to say to the same thing to trans lobbyist - we'll sort out making it easier to recognise your gender after the NHS/potholes/inflation has been sorted out.
