We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

Summer Solstice is tomorrow. Hundreds of Pagans and Wiccans will be visiting Stonehenge as a place of religious worship. This is the very reason JSO chose this target.
No different than vandalising a mosque the day before Eid or a church on Christmas Eve.

Excellent point 👍

They are absolutely idiotic and so is their cause. That's why they can't answer a single question with anything other than "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE".

That's simply not true. They are backed up by the scientific evidence that we have a few years left before the tipping point is reached so it really is as urgent as that. Not for you, or many in the West, which is the issue really.

LOL at everyone tutting over disrespecting the witches!

You can "lol", but have a look at what has happened to women who were healers or wise women or didn't worship in a conventional way.
If a woman chooses to call herself a witch, participate in rituals, that's her choice.

Well, we witches are pretty used to it - inured you might say.

And this witch is old and weary of a world that thinks the idea "and harm ye none" is radical and dangerous if you're wearing stripey tights and a pointed hat.

Paganism is based on living in harmony with the world and nature so JSO have just scored a massive own goal by alienating a good chunk of people with similar values to their own.

I bet they thought "Oh it's just a bunch of old stones - no harm no foul" and have actually sod all knowledge of the particular eco-system around this site such as the lichen. I suppose they could argue that Solstice revellers are just as damaging in their way, however, the events are controlled (I know from experience that prohibited items - including umbrellas - are removed on entry) and it is a site of spiritual significance. So how they managed to do this is concerning.

My teeny tiny tinfoil witch hat does wonder about how such groups are able to pull these stunts when mere mortals are patted down and surveilled regularly going about their business. Is it smoke and mirrors or bread and circuses?

And the implication of this kind of thing on the right to peaceful protest is concerning.

Had these immature attention seeking infants spoken to the movers and shakers on the Solstice front, they could have had a rather better bit of publicity - a whole bunch of people coming together and incorporating concern for the planet with an energetic and spiritual thrust that really reflects the respect for the planet that they profess to have.

It's supposed to be a symbiosis, our existence here, because everything is connected. Not a turf war.

But you never know - perhaps the threefold law will work its charm.

It's just sad though isn't it?

What’s your objection then, are you a ‘witch’, a Daily Express journalist or Climate Change Denier?

FluffyJellyCat · 20/06/2024 07:35

I'm a environmentalist and unfortunately I agree. They are getting more extreme. I was surprised they are allowed to promote this on twitter, but that is now as sess pit of harmful content so I shouldn't be surprised.

Would you like justice for fathers or the badger Trust throwing paint at the tate? Because it's setting a bar

Are there only three options?
So you're getting personal - I'm not going to lower myself by doing the same.
My point is that I wouldn't mock women who choose to live or worship in an alternative way.

Oh yes they're wonderful. They cause 0 emissions and they're never late or on strike. And of course accessible to everyone.

Much better than cars on emissions

I have never found orange cornflour terrifying, so I do not regard them as terrorists. They do not strike fear into my heart.

They are environmental vandals. I'm sure Wiltshire police will arrest them, inconvenience them, charge them and then bail them. The security services will already have them on radar, lest they try to glue themselves to the M25 in rush hour.

I can't get too worked up about them really.

They could help the planet by not damaging things that then need cleaning or repairing costing more resources.

They raise awareness of their crimes. I don't believe they convert people to their cause though. Greta Thunberg talks and people listen. Throwing things like toddlers doesn't get people listening.

FluffyJellyCat · 20/06/2024 07:38

Also would they have destroyed the magnacarter if they could have opened the case? This isn't green place that's for sure

Much worse if you need to get to work or a hospital appointment.

Its about the sun - Surely a bit of orange paint won't change any thing, people of all sorts of faiths worship in all sorts of conditions

What is the chemical make up of the 'orange paint' how will affect the lichen?

It was the desecration of an ancient site and they are the living embodiment of not knowing where you have been means you can't know where your going.
The site is of both cultural and historical significance. It connects us to our ancient history and they pissed on it.
In order to highlight a tiny part of what causes the change in the climate of our planet, they, drove down there burning fossil fuels, and damages possibly forever an ecosystem that helps combat co2 levels. As a species we don't tend to like hypocrites.
It was an Act of religious terrorism by one sect on another taken the day before a major festival in order to deeply disrupt that religion.

Good points. The toddlers need a new approach.

Exactly.
I am deeply passionate about the environment and do as much as I can and my donations all go to those causes and I work in a field that makes a positive change.

Throwing paint at Stonehenge won't achieve anything other than alienate people

I’m not getting personal, how’s that personal, your argument is all over the place and I am genuinely curious as your view appears to exactly align with the Daily Express Headline - I don’t read this sensationalist shit by the way but can see that’s the case on the BBC website!

I just heard on the radio that the marking of Summer Solstice at Stone Henge is still going ahead so that’s a good news story. Then again, I have read 3 days ago about a road closure warning to the thousands heading that way to expect traffic and congestion!

KatyaKabanova · 20/06/2024 07:51

Three insults.
I have no idea what the Daily Express headline is.
I never read it. Thank you for informing me.
My argument is not "all over the place" (sic).
Let me sumnarise: I see no point in needless vandalism.
This is not only an historic monument, it is a place of worship, this is an important time for them.
Pagans, witches, whatever they choose to call themselves, deserve the same respect and consideration as everyone.
That is all.
Attempting put downs with personal insults is not particularly pleasant or helpful.

I'm waiting for the day the Druids take revenge and turn up at those protesters houses with a vat of that stuff and lob it. But it's ok because it'll wash off in the rain, so no harm done right?

Nature isn't kind, not all practice the 3 fold law. At its heart it's a worship of nature.
Take what your saying and apply it to any other religion does it make you feel uncomfortable?
