We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

@Goldenbear there’s 8 billion people on the planet, probably more than 7 billion less fortunate than you and not worried about climate change….not necessarily denying

I don’t really understand your point, billions of people are worse off than me and they don’t worry about climate change so I shouldn’t? The logic is lost on me. Some people who are probably not as monetarily well off as me still worry about their environment, in fact it is the action from the ‘little people’ that need to change things via our own self determination, not relying on leadership via government of it is not happening. For example, in Union Island, the locals restored the mangrove forest after it was bulldozed down to make way for a tourist resort, however the money ran out and this mess was left for the locals, through political self determination they restored it.

Notstopoil · 20/06/2024 02:50

@Goldenbear no, I’m just saying you shouldn’t write people off as climate change deniers and therefore see them as below you.

Notstopoil · 20/06/2024 02:56

@Goldenbear your examoke of union island is great, because local people see the affect of local projects. But you can’t apply that reasoning on a global scale. When people need light and heating, they’re not worried about potential climate change.

No offence but deliberation over this is just deflection and wasting time. I’m on MN, it is pretty much a UK forum so I would assume many people are in a position to take some action. I think you are very much wrong about Union Island, it precisely proves the point that seemingly those with limited influence and money can do something that is very powerful in the face of climate change.

its not wasting time though is it? Anyone who doesn’t know/understand/confused about climate change needs educating, not belittlement.
my point stands that until people can see a direct effect on them it’s going to be difficult. How can you tell 79 year old Bob to stop driving his car because in 50 years the world will change?

LOL at everyone tutting over disrespecting the witches!

This is incredibly disrespectful.

Paganism is a religious belief that goes back to a time of prehistory. It symbolises polytheism and many ancient beliefs. Many of which still remain, anyone who’s ever eaten an Easter egg or had a Christmas tree is partaking in sacred ancient rituals that have been handed down through generations of humans, adapting the symbolic meanings as time passes.

Many people, who still hold those ancient beliefs of being one with the earth and its seasons, were due to meet and celebrate at one of the very few remaining places on earth that our ancestors also celebrated at.

Do you not understand the significance of being able to stand where our ancestors stood, to watch the same sun rise and set over the same point over the same monument? Do you think that sullying it and its significance the day before solstice is ok? And to laugh and call them “witches”?

In past they have gone for targets that are connected to the oil industry- even if it is just a sponsorship deal.

This represents a new form of stupid from an organisation that does stupid rather well.

But they didn't. They stopped a truck because it was carrying oil. Vegetable oil.

They are a special sort of stupid.

I believe so. It's powder paint.

Because of this I actually think it's an incredibly effective way to draw to the public's attention that the government continue to fail to be held to account on the climate crisis. Unfortunately the masses just don't care.

SocoBateVira · 20/06/2024 06:42

Reminds me of that viral tweet a few years ago. It said people would be wise to make sure their protests are different from what psyops sent to discredit their cause would do. Basically, don't be so howlingly stupid that you'll have people thinking you've been infiltrated by the fossil fuel industry.

Barefootsally · 20/06/2024 06:45

I was absolutely raging when I watched this. I hope they get a jail sentence

Abhannmor · 20/06/2024 06:58

It looked awful on tv. But itis just harmless powder. Counterproductive stunts won't save the planet however.

Though there are some rare, and possibly unique, lichens on the stones that could have been damaged by either the dye or the techniques that will have to be used to remove the staining. Since the stage is unlikely to just ‘come off in the rain’ due to the nature of the dye and porosity of the lichen/stones

Its about the sun - Surely a bit of orange paint won't change any thing, people of all sorts of faiths worship in all sorts of conditions

KatyaKabanova · 20/06/2024 07:17

It's not the Methodist Church on the high street.

I'd be more raging at the thousands of cars that drive by it every day

Are you a pagan? I'm not, so I was going to start with listening to what the people who are pagans and do gather at Stonehenge have to say.

You're allowed to drive a car.
Do you never use a car or any form of similar transport?

Singersong · 20/06/2024 07:21

They are absolutely idiotic and so is their cause. That's why they can't answer a single question with anything other than "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE".

KatyaKabanova · 20/06/2024 07:22

I do wonder what would happen if they did similar at a mosque, church, temple etc.
Some faiths don't seem to get the same respect.

Pollution free, they are not.
They used to be great, however, they are now too expensive and unreliable.

Oh yes they're wonderful. They cause 0 emissions and they're never late or on strike. And of course accessible to everyone.

They're certainly better when there isn't some knob on a final salary pension superglue to the roof when you have to get to work, that's for sure.
