We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

Nature isn't kind, not all practice the 3 fold law. At its heart it's a worship of nature.
Take what your saying and apply it to any other religion does it make you feel uncomfortable?

You’ve massively missed my point as I was addressing the poster that I quoted. Deflection, Deflection, Deflection..

Whilst I don’t think their methods are right I don’t agree that they are terrorists. They target things not people.

So blocking ambulances responding to calls is not targeting people?

Not very kind outlook to be vengeful.

Not very kind to vandalise a sacred site either but there you go. I have a friend who is a Druid and he is heartbroken at what happened yesterday. In his mind it was no better than someone taking a shit in a church or any other place of worship.

Noddedoffagain · 20/06/2024 08:16

The suffragettes were also classed as terrorists. They were right to fight though.

Birds shit on those rocks every day. Heartbroken is he, yer “Druid” ?

bitjel · 20/06/2024 08:22

They are a bit silly. It always looks like a bad version of the young ones to me. 2024 version of Rik running around being "provocative" whilst Neil tells everyone to chill.

You do know the difference between birds shitting on a stone and people deliberately defacing a stone don't you? Also not quite sure why you put Druid in " " . and yes he is heartbroken.

friskybivalves · 20/06/2024 08:27

They have this morning broken into stansted airport and sprayed taylor swift's jet with the same orange paint.

Crossing the line!

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 20/06/2024 08:38

They're saying it's orange cornflour and will wash off in the next rain. If that's true then I can't get all that worked up about it. The 1 million visitor footfall it gets every year will be doing more ecological damage.

They're getting the subject of climate change an extraordinary amount of publicity. For that I am grateful. It is an imminent existential threat to humanity and it needs our attention. Bluntly, what point is there in preserving an ancient man-made monument for future generations to enjoy when man-made climate change is going to very soon make it impossible for future generations to survive?

Crossing the line!

Yeah - i mean, stonehenge and thousands of years of history is one thing but don't risk the wrath of the Swifties by jeopardising the Eras tour...

Bird shit is acidic. Cornstarch is neutral.

Like bird shit, cornstarch also eventually washes off in the rain but while it’s there it causes less damage. In fact rain itself used to be damagingly acidic until FGD reduced SO2 emissions and we phased out most of out coal burning. This was achieved in part due to protesters raising awareness and taking direct action, and eventually succeeding.

I put “Druid” in quotes because like “King” and “Prince” etc I find such titles - especially archaic ones - a bit “pantomime”.

I think you misunderstand "vengeful".

They'd be banned now under the government's new laws.

Shakeoffyourchains · 20/06/2024 09:01

KatyaKabanova · 19/06/2024 20:06

They're vandals. Why aren't they stopped from doing all this damage.
It should be a proscribed terrorist group.

Oil companies literally vandalise the environment on an industrial scale.
Just a few months ago MV Gulfstream spilled almost 5,000 tonnes of oil into the caribbean causing an 'environmental catastrophe' according to the people impacted yet there's no public outcry or demands to class oil companies as proscribed terrorist groups.

But a few wackos throw powder paint on an old stone and people loose their mind.

KatyaKabanova · 20/06/2024 09:05

There's a difference between what is illegal, and what is allowed by law.
You don't get to decide that on a whim.

KatyaKabanova · 20/06/2024 09:06

"old stone" - yet again.
It's disappointing that some people don't understand it's value.

blablasmthsmth · 20/06/2024 09:14

Dontcallmescarface · 20/06/2024 07:51

I'm waiting for the day the Druids take revenge and turn up at those protesters houses with a vat of that stuff and lob it. But it's ok because it'll wash off in the rain, so no harm done right?

It would be interesting if there was a group set up specifically to track these people down and do this to their homes.
I'd be interested in how many were in nice detached houses in affluent areas with 4x4s on the drive..considering how they like to disrupt people desperately trying to get to work or let down the tyres of other motorists.

blablasmthsmth · 20/06/2024 09:16

"Trains are great"

This wasn't really an answer Allfur, are you saying that you never use cars?

Thanks for the TED talk but that wasn't my point as well you know. Those birds don't know that they maybe damaging an ancient monument doing what comes naturally. JSO did. It's more than just the stones it's the eco system around them. Whilst it maybe ok to say "ah well it's just cornstarch, no harm done", you don't know that. People with far more knowledge than me and, I suspect you, are concerned that the damage done to the ancient lichen may result in it failing to thrive. So whilst JSO claim to be "caring for our environment", yesterdays actions show that when it comes down to it they are clueless when it comes to the consequences of their actions on the natural world. Should that lichen be damaged and eventually die out....well it won't be the oil industry that will be totally to blame, JSO can take some credit for helping it on it's way.

You don't get to decide that on a whim.

That works both ways, so you don't get to decide which groups are terrorists on a whim either then.

And it is illegal to allow oil to contaminate the environment pretty much everywhere, still happens regularly.

Hell, deepwater horizon was almost exclusively caused by corporate greed and a disregard for the laws and regulations that were in place, yet no one responsible will face prosecution over that, even though the environmental impacts of that are still being felt 14 years later.

Isn't it because there is no logic to taking out your ire over environmental damage caused by big corporations by vandalising a set of monumental stones with historical and spiritual significance? All it has achieved is alot of ill-feeling likely to damage the cause itself and deflect from the real issues. Which is what feeds the idea that groups like JSO and XR are part of some great psy-op.

Why aren't these protesters down in the Caribbean helping with a clean up or doing their activism in hands on constructive ways? Because it's hard work putting your money where your mouth is. What is it they say? Empty vessels make the most noise and all that.

DaffydownClock · 20/06/2024 09:21

They’re mindless idiots who are doing more to alienate people from their cause than to get people to support them.
I hope they’re locked up.

I am not in disagreement with your points about corporate greed and the way capitalism in its current form (not true free market capitalism - it's rigged, obviously) is damaging the environment and every aspect of human life by the way. But it's not Stonehenges fault.
