We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

Why don't they throw themselves in front of the King's horse like the Suffragettes did? Lets see if they have the courage of their conviction. Throwing powder paint on some stones is easy.

Yes. They should sacrifice their life. Good plan. 🙄

I'm not sneering, I'm concerned about the environment too. I'm just fed up with the 'world is burning' 'don't you care about your children' rhetoric .......but no actual answers on WHAT JSO are doing to improve the situation? It's much easier to chuck paint, glue themselves to tarmac and sit on tube trains than to put some hard graft into standing for Parliament or finding a solution isn't it?

What CAN they do? What can ordinary people do that hasn’t already been done for the last 40 years at least? Come up with a suggestion and I’ll do it.

Easy trust in big business and big science that eventually they will develop tech to save the planet similar with how we are now using battery powered cars etc

Stand for Parliament and get elected to influence government policy?

Change how we live.

Buy less.

Drive less.

Fly less

So what IS needed then that hasn’t already been done a gazillion times before over the last 4 decades? What? Please tell us and we will do it!

What they can do is not vandalise Stonehenge. That will solve the problems of putting people off their cause due to being stupid cunts and of disrespecting a religious and cultural site, and will also be no worse for the environment than vandalising Stonehenge.

Ultimately, the argument a lot of you are making here is that anything is better than nothing. It isn't. Direct action can do nothing whatsoever and can make things worse. Those are also possibilities. You need to engage with that.

Aaah. The ‘close your eyes and keep your fingers crossed’ plan. Good. That’ll work, and then we don’t have to change. Hurrah.

May be that will happen at the eleventh hour like any good disaster movie, but why go for the may be/possibly instead of what we know will work? Then if solutions do come along we can start drilling happily for oil again and chuck our bottles straight in the sea and skip the bin stage?

And of course we can trust big tech and business to put people before profit. There is a strong history of just that happening. Jobs a gudden.

Are you serious? You think JSO campaigners should kill themselves? Really?

What do you think green candidates have been doing for the last few decades?

It isn’t enough.

JohnSt1 · 24/06/2024 22:07

Set up a counter-organisation. For every act of vandalism or public inconvenience, we'll burn a barrel of oil. 🤣

You are missing the point. It HAS worked. Coverage all over the media. Much more attention grabbing than ‘another March through London’. They aren’t trying to get more subscribers or supporters. They are trying to make headlines and keep it on the agenda. And they are succeeding. All publicity is good publicity.

And if you vote for climate wrecking policies because you are mad at JSO, that just shooting yourself in the foot. My roof is caving in and there is a builder shouting over at me that it’s about to fall on top of me but I don’t like the way he’s shouting so I’m going to stand here, cross my arms and frown at him. I might even give the roof a poke!! stupid terrorist builder!

well its better than alot of various people commiting criminal acts and wasting tax payers ££ having to repair the damages etc

There’s a lot more of tax payers’ money being spent on the aftermath of floods and flood defences.

Or is this classic Problem Reaction Solution so we all clamour for our right to protest to come to an end. Why aren't they chucking oaint at BP and Shell owners Bentleys? But at things the public like? I'm suspicious

The question was;

So what SHOULD one do if one knows the facts about climate change, every single other thing that can be done to influence policy has been done, regularly over a period of decades, and we are in the midst of an emerging emergency where people are already suffering and dying, and it’s only going to get worse, and the government know this but don’t act…

WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

They ARE. Be suspicious of the media, who pick and choose what they report to suit their own agendas.

It’s ALL been tried before over decades. Have you any idea how much time and money it takes to do that? It’s too late for niceties and playing fair. Governments are too closely linked with the oil industry and they are putting us at increased risk and are not acting in our best interests.
