We need the security services to shut the group down when they are carrying out what can be described as terrorist methods to influence govt policy.

Its just paint FGS.

Look, you gave them the attention they wanted.

I do understand why they act as they do knowing what they believe, I dont think they for once second think it encourages the public to their cause.

They have this morning broken into stansted airport and sprayed taylor swift's jet with the same orange paint.

And there was I calling them idiots🤣

It's not "just paint" though is it. In fact it wasn't paint at all but that's irrelevant.

They've been arrested.

I am not in disagreement with your points about corporate greed and the way capitalism in its current form (not true free market capitalism - it's rigged, obviously) is damaging the environment and every aspect of human life by the way. But it's not Stonehenges fault.

That lichen had it coming!

I've never known such fervor about lichen

Mmm I think it might have something to do with a supposedly environmentalist group endangering a rare type of it in a completely fuckwitted stunt. Fortunately, that doesn't usually happen.

Also if you think this is fervour, you should go on one of the remote working threads.

How did throwing themselves under a horse, carrying out bombings and arson attacks win women the vote ?

Sometimes it takes more than polite petitions.

It didn't. Universal suffrage wasn't granted until 15 years after the Suffragettes finished their campaign. Many historians believe that their actions set back their cause, by enabling the men to portray women as too unstable to be trusted with the vote.

I'm beginning to come to the same conclusion as JKR. These activists must be funded by Big Oil in order to discredit the environmentalist cause.

The last time JSO turned up to sit in the road near to my friends home, three of them turned up seperately in fairly new 4x4s (not electric). They were parked outside her house and she has photos. The hypocrisy after a bunch of them went round deflating tyres on other people's 4x4s.

Did your friend have a jar of lentils in the house? It would have been a great service to the environment if she'd followed their example of placing lentils under the dust caps of these Chelsea Tractors.

"Trains are great"

This wasn't really an answer Allfur, are you saying that you never use cars?

Fewer people using cars would help a great deal, yes

Thanks for the TED talk but that wasn't my point as well you know. Those birds don't know that they maybe damaging an ancient monument doing what comes naturally. JSO did. It's more than just the stones it's the eco system around them. Whilst it maybe ok to say "ah well it's just cornstarch, no harm done", you don't know that. People with far more knowledge than me and, I suspect you, are concerned that the damage done to the ancient lichen may result in it failing to thrive. So whilst JSO claim to be "caring for our environment", yesterdays actions show that when it comes down to it they are clueless when it comes to the consequences of their actions on the natural world. Should that lichen be damaged and eventually die out....well it won't be the oil industry that will be totally to blame, JSO can take some credit for helping it on it's way.

The birds know exactly what they're doing 🐦

Whilst I don’t think their methods are right I don’t agree that they are terrorists. They target things not people.

That's not entirely true is it.

Did they get the day wrong? Surely it would have been more effective to carry out this stunt today when thousands gather to celebrate the solstice..

Hmmmm. sure is a puzzler 🤔

Good points. The toddlers need a new approach.

Hang on - I'm not LOL ing at the witches!!! I am LOL ing at everyone being all 'Won't somebody think of the witches' in a world in which they are usually LOLed at! But I appreciate that might not have come across.

I assumed these protesters were idiots like everybody else seems to, and I thought this video did a lot to help me understand where they are coming from

I would throw soup at a Van Gogh painting 🎨 🛢️💀(Just Stop Oil & 'Sunflowers')

What were they thinking? Let's talk about it. JOIN THE GUMPTION CLUB: https://www.patreon.com/thegumptionclubBeing in the club means you get: a free weekly p...

The best thing that could happen to these utter morons is for there to never be any mention of them anywhere. Don't publish it, don't film them, don't converse with them, don't report on it, don't even challenge them. Then they'll realise that they will get nowhere. They're simply attention seeking cockends using the pretence of being an activist as an excuse.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 20/06/2024 13:39

@GreigeO

Fair enough lol. You're right, usually us "fringe believers" do get alot of ridicule as we're all lumped as irrational and unscientific, not helped by our enjoyment of aesthetically pleasing props like crystals, which is it's own environmental can of worms. So it's nice to see a bit of tolerance even if it's provoked by other agendas.

The world seems to be getting battier by the minute these days on every subject, and sometimes I just have to write alot off to the "cosmic joke".

Anyway blessed be as we wind up to Solstice - I shall raise a horn of mead to hope for saner times when defenceless monuments and lichen are left in peace....

Shakeoffyourchains · 20/06/2024 13:39

MistressoftheDarkSide · 20/06/2024 09:20

Isn't it because there is no logic to taking out your ire over environmental damage caused by big corporations by vandalising a set of monumental stones with historical and spiritual significance? All it has achieved is alot of ill-feeling likely to damage the cause itself and deflect from the real issues. Which is what feeds the idea that groups like JSO and XR are part of some great psy-op.

Why aren't these protesters down in the Caribbean helping with a clean up or doing their activism in hands on constructive ways? Because it's hard work putting your money where your mouth is. What is it they say? Empty vessels make the most noise and all that.

Many of these types of group have been involved in direct action for years but it hasn't made a bit of difference and doesn't get press attention or register with the public.

While their current antics annoy more people than anything it does grab people's attention and opens them up to discussion on the topic. I mean would you realistically have thought about oil companies polluting the Caribbean today if it wasn't for this thread?

As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. The funny thing is, JSO's demands aren't even an issue, they want a stop to new oil and gas licences being issued (not a stop to using oil and gas overnight) and this is something the UK government have already indirectly committed to by setting a net zero by 2050 target. All they'd have to do to satisfy JSO is clarify timelines.

But JSO and net zero are useful tools to stoke the culture wars so they'll just keep using them to create division.

Good points all I grant you.

I hadn't heard about that oil spill so yes, it has educated at least one person and made me cross. So much technology and research and progress yet why is this still happening.....

The target and timeline thing is also interesting. And you're right about the culture wars - we've got them in every area of human life now and it boils the issues down to monetisation and politicisation over everything else.

Division in every area. I'm wary of "any club that would have me as a member" these days because true agendas are often hidden behind clever soundbites and slick marketing.... bless the Internet eh? Pigeons. I want pigeons. And maybe drumming.

StaunchMomma · 20/06/2024 14:00

Right message - wrong methods (even though the paint will just wash off).

TERRORISTS tho?!!

🙄

That’s one argument but not all historians by any means agree with that, it is not an absolute!

I never said all, I said many. The post I quoted made it sound as if militancy was indisputably the cause of female enfranchisement.

SomeDad · 20/06/2024 15:28

I do think some people need to get a grip.

They threw corn flour.

Some terrorism....

fliptopbin · 20/06/2024 15:44

Which "government" are they trying to influence? Parliament is dissolved, we don't currently have a government.
