I don’t like June

AStepAtaTime · 19/06/2024 17:44

June is NOT my power month. I am trying to work out why. Every June when the days are at their longest and the light quality is good I feel slightly disappointed because I really can’t get on board with June. Work is always crazy busy, people seem stressed and slightly manic and I have two family birthdays to manage so finances are crap.

I don’t like that it gets light at 3.30am. I don’t sleep well in June. I feel slightly on edge all throughout. The kids, for some inexplicable reason always come down with nasty coughs and colds at the beginning of June which then rumble on for the rest of
the month. To be honest, I’m not particularly keen on July either. January and February are just to be survived. Nothing enjoyable happens then.

I love October. Love this month because of the autumn fun and the Halloween things. It’s also a beautiful month for walking, such lovely colours everywhere. There’s a buzz of anticipation in the air.

What month or months do you not like and why? What months are your power months, when you feel energised?

June and December are the 'fun at school' months here which means remembering things every day, non uniform days, £1 for a fun day, school trip wear PE kit, collect at 1.15pm today etc. I do quite like the last 2 weeks of August when you can start to feel the change in the season but the wasps are offputting.

I'm actually the complete opposite, June is my happy month. I absolutely adore the light nights. I hate October, that and January are the worst months of the year imo.

fiskalunatic · 19/06/2024 17:58

I am exactly the same as you OP. I could've written your post. Feel like I have to endure June and July whilst feeling sub optimal and low energy throughout. Really wish I wasn't this way but there you are.

It's upsetting because I know I should be feeling pure joy and wonder at the weather. Instead I feel drained and low throughout.

WhatNoRaisins · 19/06/2024 18:00

I do find I sleep less when it's light more of the time and it makes me more irritable than usual. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy the days or the weather though.

NewShoes · 19/06/2024 18:02

June and July are the best months of the year for me. Warm days, long evenings to sit out in the garden, life feels easiest. Hate January. Always seems to last forever!

WeRateSquirrels · 19/06/2024 18:08

Love May/June/July. Hate the winter dark and cold.

SparkyBlue · 19/06/2024 18:10

You got me thinking now OP and I agree with you. Mine get school holidays towards the end of the month so the whole of June is a non month school wise. We haven't had homework in over a week now. We've had school tours and local historical tours and sports day etc etc plus end of year gymnastics shows and dance shows and girl guide trips. I'm actually drained and everyone gets a bit unsettled due to lack of usual routine. . I've an end of year catch up meeting with DSs teacher also on Friday morning. Also yes we always get sicknesses. We had DD at the walk in GP last Saturday as her sickness just wasn't shifting. Last year was a horrific chest infection this year it was tonsillitis. The dog is also waking extra early due to the brightness.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 19/06/2024 18:11

I love June, September and October. I don't like August, January and March.

Wintersgirl · 19/06/2024 18:15

My least favourite months are January February March and April my favourites are June right the way through to December! January is ok for the first 10 days or so because it feels like a fresh start but it goes downhill after that because the Winter can go on for bloody ages as it did this year..

masomenos · 19/06/2024 18:17

I’ve never actually thought about things in this way. Each month has its thing going for it.

January - peace and quiet after Christmas/NY, time to rest and recover

February - hibernation, relishing the cold and dark, knowing March is on its way

March - somewhat warmer, days longer, life getting going again

April - spring!

May - more spring AND summer on its way

June - summer has arrived, time to look forward to long days and late nights

July - holidays, heat, dresses, skin feeling the warmth of the sun

August - dregs of summer, saying goodbye to summer and preparing for autumn and winter

September - temps drop, back to school, new meetings and new people and new ideas

October - full on autumn

November - Thanksgiving (I live in the US), Halloween

December - Christmas and NY

Every month has its own vibe.

I get it. For some reason June and October have been terrible for me in the last 10 years. Deaths, illnesses, shit things happening.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/06/2024 18:18

I thought you meant the name! Blush I was all ready to defend it but I'll get my coat...

Twoshoesnewshoes · 19/06/2024 18:22

I love autumn, and dislike August, other than that happy to see all the seasons and all the weather.

Scorpion84 · 19/06/2024 18:23

I like the spring months up until July

I find August boring and am
always glad when it's sep for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️
I think it's the pressure that's comes with school
holidays.

I enjoy autumn and the run up to Christmas

not keen on Jan / Feb

Hedgesfullofbirds · 19/06/2024 18:26

Early April to end of May are my favourites as everything has a lush greeness to it, it is comfortably warm and everything seems full of promise. June, July and August I find draining with the heat, the dryness and summer tired look which comes with that! September is another favourite month - cooler generally and the lush smell of harvest fields and freshly ploughed ground. December is great! The thought of the year turning full circle and fresh beginnings, snowdrops starting to push through the soil and the Winter Solstice. January too, as those snowdrops start to fllower and the land shows the first signs of coming to life again!

positivewings · 19/06/2024 20:49

Yes!
Roll on Halloween one here, too!

This is weird, I have always had a visceral dislike -almost a fear of June. I dread it, and am currently counting the days until it’s over. I feel on edge and discombobulated for no real reason.

I’ve had a lot of bad luck in June - crashed two cars (one not my fault), fell over and cut my hands to ribbons, I had a cancer diagnosis in June (all clear now), illness, bad news, bad luck all seems to happen in June.

June is my black cloud month. Not mad keen on July or August, I can relax in September as the safety of Autumn is on its way.

Relieved I’m not the only one.

PassingStranger · 19/06/2024 20:59

I love June and wish it could be June forever.

Eyeballpaula · 19/06/2024 23:12

PassingStranger · 19/06/2024 20:59

I love June and wish it could be June forever.

Me too! I just walked back from a lovely, easy summer night out in the light at almost 10pm. May birthday is in June and I've always thought it's the best month for a birthday too.

Jan and Feb are a slog, March is meh, but I like most other months.

Em308 · 19/06/2024 23:14

I hate the heat so I always dread July. Once July is over I breathe a sigh of relief. I’m curious why people don’t like August!

BlondeFool · 19/06/2024 23:17

Poor Terry's June. What did she do to you?

MavisPennies · 19/06/2024 23:19

November and December can fuck off. January benefits from the comparison with December, February is shit but maybe a daffodil or two can help, March and April are hopeful & I ❤️ Easter, May, June & July are excellent, August is a let down, I love new stationary so September is great, October has some redeeming features & is DDs favourite, but I know we're on the slide by then.

idratherbedrawing · 19/06/2024 23:23

June is a bit extreme for me to love it, the light is kinda too much to enjoy, plus I get terrible hayfever which puts a damper on things. I wish I could enjoy it more, as after June the days after getting shorter again. Spring is def my favourite time of year and I love April for that reason, also a fan of late March but I'm increasingly into early March and February as you can really feel it's getting lighter. January is def the hardest along with November. December would be awful if it wasn't for Christmas.

PickAChew · 19/06/2024 23:23

It's been crap, so far, this year, but I like June because it compensates us for dark Decembers and is usually warm and dry without being uncomfortable and sticky. I like the pink sky on the horizon at midnight and the fact that it's still royal blue at this time.
