I don’t like June

AStepAtaTime · 19/06/2024 17:44

June is NOT my power month. I am trying to work out why. Every June when the days are at their longest and the light quality is good I feel slightly disappointed because I really can’t get on board with June. Work is always crazy busy, people seem stressed and slightly manic and I have two family birthdays to manage so finances are crap.

I don’t like that it gets light at 3.30am. I don’t sleep well in June. I feel slightly on edge all throughout. The kids, for some inexplicable reason always come down with nasty coughs and colds at the beginning of June which then rumble on for the rest of
the month. To be honest, I’m not particularly keen on July either. January and February are just to be survived. Nothing enjoyable happens then.

I love October. Love this month because of the autumn fun and the Halloween things. It’s also a beautiful month for walking, such lovely colours everywhere. There’s a buzz of anticipation in the air.

What month or months do you not like and why? What months are your power months, when you feel energised?

I’m loving June at the moment just because as MeinKraft says, there’s so much going on in school and the kids are running in every day, which makes a nice change!! I love September, just the whole cosiness of it, as well as the extreme beauty, and the fact that it’s back to routine. I also love March when it feels we’re coming out of winter and there’s suddenly green everywhere!!

Latenighttelly · 19/06/2024 23:24

I adore May, June, July and August. Feel so sad in September although it's often gorgeous. October resigned to Autumn and November, December love the run up to Christmas. January is a fresh start, loathe February, March and April. The only thing I like about the winter months is that I sleep better, birds doing their thing at 3.30am in the summer months is a killer. It's 11.30pm right now, the night before midsummer's eve and it's still lightish and I can hear an owl calling, now that is quite magical.

I hate June. I've realised I don't produce enough melatonin in spring and summer and I'm fucking knackered with insomnia and anxiety. Its only good if I started and kept up a consistent exercise routine from at least March.

LawlorsNaa · 19/06/2024 23:27

Absolutey hate September and October. Hate September because it's the end of the summer and all the stress of getting kids back to school and the realisation that it's at least another 10 months before our yearly summer holiday. October, Halloween, hate it.

I’ve never actually thought about things in this way. Each month has its thing going for it.

January - peace and quiet after Christmas/NY, time to rest and recover

February - hibernation, relishing the cold and dark, knowing March is on its way

March - somewhat warmer, days longer, life getting going again

April - spring!

May - more spring AND summer on its way

June - summer has arrived, time to look forward to long days and late nights

July - holidays, heat, dresses, skin feeling the warmth of the sun

August - dregs of summer, saying goodbye to summer and preparing for autumn and winter

September - temps drop, back to school, new meetings and new people and new ideas

October - full on autumn

November - Thanksgiving (I live in the US), Halloween

December - Christmas and NY

Every month has its own vibe.

Glad you said you're in the US because March is generally cold and wet in the UK.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/06/2024 23:29

Sept - Nov i think are my favourites. Especially November - it’s such an underrated month. It has a calm before the storm about it, still autumn with leaves on the ground, often has the cold crisp mornings more than Oct does, has bonfire night which I love. Top month.

Worst month of the year is March - especially if it doesn’t have Easter in it. Although I do like the daffodils.

NewMe2024 · 19/06/2024 23:29

I love June for the long days of sunshine. Ditto July and August. I get more done and feel so happy in the sunshine.

i also love the peak Autumn months for the back to school fresh start kind of vibes, then the cosy vibes of winter and Christmas.

jan - Feb are my only tough months. The cold and dark can seem interminable after Christmas is over.

PickAChew · 19/06/2024 23:30

My worst insomnia is in December. I need decent daylight to stop my body clock from running too slow.

Crinkle77 · 19/06/2024 23:31

I love June but this one has been a complete washout. Good forecast for next week but then crap again 😡

Listress · 19/06/2024 23:34

June is one of my favourite months but I’m diagnosed with SAD during the winter months. I hate October as the dark is looming when the clocks go back and I drag myself through November December and January until I start to see a very slight difference in the nights getting lighter. I feel so much better from February - September. I’m just back from a walk and it’s still quite light out outside.

Edited to add I also hate the snow in winter which we get plenty of!

Waitingfordoggo · 19/06/2024 23:35

I don’t mind June- I love the long hours of daylight. We live very close to a lovely beach and can walk down there in 5 mins in the evening with the dog and a couple of beers. Usually there would be a lot of paddleboarding and BBQing going on down there by now but the season is only just getting started as it’s been so cool and windy until a couple of days ago. I hate the heatwaves though (we have had quite a lot in recent summers), and don’t like getting too much sun on my skin, so often spend lots of time in my kitchen in the summer months as it’s nice and cool and I have a sofa in there.

My favourite months are probably April/May. I love spring. DS’s birthday is April and I like the Easter bank holiday. I’m not a fan of December, as I find Christmas quite hard and feel like I want to hibernate until March.

Liv999 · 19/06/2024 23:35

Love September cos the kids go back to school, October cos it's Halloween, November cos it's the whole run up to Christmas, and December cos it is Christmas! I detest May, June and July

NoSnowdrop · 19/06/2024 23:42

How can you not love June? The flowers are blooming, they’ve not got that tired washed out look everything tends to have by late summer. Birds are chirping and the warm evenings are glorious.

I agree the light evenings can be tricky for sleeping. I love June and I’m not even a ‘summer’ person.

the nights will be drawing in soon enough!

Gingerisgoodforyou · 19/06/2024 23:43

Love May and June - light nights, promise of summer stretching out, birthdays. Rubbish weather this year but I hope!

August I feel a bit deflated as summer is over for another year.

Months from then til December are ok as autumn is a novelty then Christmas to look forward to.

January to March can pretty much fuck off - cold, wet, long, dark. I live in winter coat and wellies, mud, rain, wind. March feels like it should be spring but is still freezing.

I love warm weather!

dayslikethese1 · 19/06/2024 23:44

Love May/June, hate March and August.

Catsmere · 19/06/2024 23:53

Other side of the world, but I dislike all the summer months. I don't like hot weather, loathe being woken early by light coming in my room (I can't put a pelmet up to block it) and hate daylight saving. Give me autumn and winter, even a very cold winter like we're having now (been hitting freezing at night lately and that's rare in this part of Australia). May and June are probably my favourite months. September can be nice, but spring can get a bit sticky.

Berlinlover · 19/06/2024 23:57

I’m miserable from October until March every year.

TheaBrandt · 19/06/2024 23:59

Enjoy all the months except Feb - April. Awful dead zone. Surely March is the worst month of the year? Winter has dragged on for months interminable cold and grey. Nothing to recommend it. April is usually freezing too and am so over being cold by then.

Monka · 20/06/2024 00:03

I love the months from May to December. I like the summer months and then Autumn and cosy days at home with Christmas to look forward to. Jan is just awful. February is slightly less awful due to a shorter month. March and April I’m not that keen on either, lots of colds going round.

Guavafish1 · 20/06/2024 00:06

I'm not keen on June too

LaWench · 20/06/2024 00:06

I love June but I'm always tired by this point. I get very basic holidays from work and save most of them up over Summer Hols and Xmas so I've worked for nearly half a year with only BHs off so I'm brain and body tired. We've had a GCSE year so was more stressful than normal.

I love the warmer days, the sun makes me smile and always makes me wish our garden was nicer.

LoreleiG · 20/06/2024 00:16

I like June, it makes me want to go camping. I like the light nights. July is often way too hot for me. Prefer August.

I am really not a fan of Halloween but I like Autumn.

I have no months that I really dislike!

MathsMum3 · 20/06/2024 00:39

Omg, how can you not love June? My favourite months are May and June, when Spring is springing, flowers are blossoming, days are longer, and the sun in shining (but not too hot). My liking for other months spreads from May and June: March, April, July and August are all good, February and September are ok, but I hate October and November when when eveyrthing is dying and December and January when it's freezing cold and days are so short.

Good summary.

Bit harsh on August, but you're right when it comes to the end of that month...sunny days aren't necessarily that hot anymore (here in UK) and there's a bit of melancholy in the air, somehow...

November used to be my least fave month (May was my fave)..but I genuinely think it's climate change - its sunnier now and the leaves are golden. It used to be just dark and dank and mushy when I was young.

Dec 1- about 15 is rubbish...I don't like the thought of Christmas, but I don't mind it when it actually get close and is happening..

Love it in Jan though when it all quietens down...

I enjoy thinking about the months and ranking them...I normally love these light white nights of June, but its been wet and cold here until the last couple of days...might get into it when I take my daughter and her friends to Stonehenge for the solstice...

But the solstice passing is the start of the long decline...

I've been listening to a lot of Joni Mitchell recently..I'll put her on in the car and the youngsters can be educated - they're going to bloody Taylor Swift next week....again.

She's never written a Song For Sharon or Coyote...wonder what her favourite month is...?

Linnet · 20/06/2024 00:57

I like May and June, I love the long days and that it’s light until almost 11pm, I’m in Scotland so it stays light really late up here. July I’m not too keen on, can’t quite put my finger on why, sometimes it just feels too much, if it’s hot it can be too dry and dusty. I like August as the weather can start to turn towards autumn and schools go back and I love September and October and November and December are good too, I like that it gets dark early. I don’t mind January although it can go on a bit but February and March and often April can just be too cold and wet and I’m not overly keen.
