My life is complicated but I have 3 amazing children and most of the time an amazing husband. However our families are incredibly dysfunctional and cause a lot of headaches as they currently are doing.

Let me cheer myself up by living vicariously through you. Tell me the great stuff in your life.

My DP is the stuff of dream, he's a handsome Viking who looks amazing and is as sweet and kind as you could ever wish for. I adore every large inch of him and he loves his family. I have a lovely house, a wonderful daughter who is so clever and loving, a lovely stepson who makes me laugh constantly, and two bonkers, smelly, idiotic dogs who are my greatest supporters. And a slightly terrifying cat....
My sweet peas are doing well and I've just got a new job that I'm so excited about. Life ain't bad!

@Godnotthisagain Thank you and I hope your friend is feeling well again soon. Everyone's hysterectomy journey is so different.

I'm joining this thread because I also like to live vicariously sometimes... I love listening to the minutiae of other peoples' lives, especially if they are comfortable and things are going well and they are thinking about domestic trivia.
There was once a lovely thread on here with a women trying to work out when to serve her husband's birthday cake... I sighed happily while reading it.
Not everything in my life is rosy, but let me pull out a nice bit to see if it works for you.
A family member has recently got me into swimming in this outdoor lake (with lifeguards etc). The first two times I went I found it a bit of an alarming experience - I did 500m/1km swim so was in for a while and I think I just got really cold and felt pretty weird. This most recent time I guess the water has warmed up enough for that not to happen, and I had a bit of a magical feeling swimming in the lake while it rained. Afterwards I got changed and didn't feel shivery. You can make yourself a hot chocolate there, and I also brought an oaty bar. I felt very happy!

Lake swimming is my favourite kind of swimming. I live a couple of minutes walk from a lake, there's a little swimming jetty behind the old church hall (now a private dwelling but the swimming jetty is still in public use, thankfully) and I love to just go down there for a swim, sometimes several times a day (on very hot days). The water is lovely and if I'm lucky there's no one else around and I can swim in peace. Nothing better than floating on your back watching the clouds and listening to the birds - so much better than any swimming pool!

I decided to retrain in a new career, started a course on aircraft maintenance at a vocational college down the road from me last autumn. I've now finished the theory part of the course, passed all my exams (which is quite an achievement considering most of my class failed the last few exams we did) except for one essay exam I'll resit in September and I recently checked my grades and I'm getting top grades in all but one subject, which has second top grade (and physics hasn't been graded yet but I expect top grade for that too as I got 90% in the exam and contributed in class) and I did all this while severely anaemic (found out at the end of term - should have booked my check up at the beginning of the year!) so I feel really quite proud of myself.

In the autumn I'll be doing my work placement, building wooden seaplanes, and I'm very excited about it. I loved working on the planes at school, feels like I've finally found what I want to do (previously a cleaner, which I very much did not enjoy)

It's almost the weekend and I have successfully stuck to my diet plan and not had any sugar or alcohol since Sunday and have already lost 1.5kg as a result so am feeling very positive and excited about this summer finally managing to shift 10kg and get out of the 'too fat to wear my favourite jeans' category. Hurrah!

Also, I transplanted tomato seedlings to bigger pots and they did not die.

A nice one from me today is being put on new meds and I swear I can already feel a difference (for the better) on the first day!

Also my dd is winning an award, which I am very very proud of her for. As a single mum these things both feel like massive wins 🏆

DH and I dropped the kids off at breakfast club and school today and played tennis for over an hour in the sun before starting work today. Was bliss.

My daughter finished her GCSEs today. She started secondary school shortly after having finished treatment for cancer. We had no idea how the treatment had affected her learning and memory. She has surprised us all!

5 years on she will have her last scan (fingers crossed) this summer before she starts college and is living her best life. She has some complications but overall is doing better than we ever hoped.

There have been lots of emotions and happy tears today (from me!!)

Lovely thread. So glad for all of you whose seriously ill DC are recovering and doing well. I also have a DC with a condition- not as serious as mentioned on here- but it's manageable. Nevertheless I need to get away from the caregiver role sometimes.

I had posted upthread about how I am finally doing a lot of theatre, gigs, music and dance in my 50s now I no longer need childcare and DC are doing their own stuff. On reading back it sounds a bit insensitive and cruel in a CoL crisis. So I thought I would share that I use a seatfiller site to get cheap deals, and I often go alone, so I get better seats. I have already posted this in another forum, but I went to Swan Lake in the Round on Friday at the Royal Albert Hall in a great seat for only £15 using this seatfiller site . All Show Listings | London | Central Tickets. I am now a premium member and get tons of cheap deals, though there is also a lot of junk. I am in London Zone 3, so obviously easy for me to go last minute.

In my 50s, I feel the need to have a bit of veauty and wonder in my life, as I have spent so many years taking care of everyone else but myself!
