My life is complicated but I have 3 amazing children and most of the time an amazing husband. However our families are incredibly dysfunctional and cause a lot of headaches as they currently are doing.

Let me cheer myself up by living vicariously through you. Tell me the great stuff in your life.

I'm joining this thread because I also like to live vicariously sometimes... I love listening to the minutiae of other peoples' lives, especially if they are comfortable and things are going well and they are thinking about domestic trivia.
There was once a lovely thread on here with a women trying to work out when to serve her husband's birthday cake... I sighed happily while reading it.
Not everything in my life is rosy, but let me pull out a nice bit to see if it works for you.
A family member has recently got me into swimming in this outdoor lake (with lifeguards etc). The first two times I went I found it a bit of an alarming experience - I did 500m/1km swim so was in for a while and I think I just got really cold and felt pretty weird. This most recent time I guess the water has warmed up enough for that not to happen, and I had a bit of a magical feeling swimming in the lake while it rained. Afterwards I got changed and didn't feel shivery. You can make yourself a hot chocolate there, and I also brought an oaty bar. I felt very happy!

Im currently sat on a UK beach, in the sunshine, having just eaten a freshly made donut watching ddog demolish a tub of doggy ice cream with not a care in the world! Its the simple things in life that make me smile

I have a day off work today - and I’m enjoying not doing a great deal.

So far, I had a two hour nap after doing the school run (knackered after three 12.5 hour shifts!), went and donated blood and ate a really tasty lunch of homemade miso broth noodles.

On my list for the rest of the day is the washing, tidying DS’ bedroom, making omurice for dinner, playing video games on my switch and cleaning the snake tank. I’ll build some more of my son’s space Lego with him later too.

Everything here is good and peaceful.

BooBooButts · 19/06/2024 15:03

I've just paid my last ever nursery invoice ;)

I’m a member of a gorgeous country club and I go there for solo evening swims in an (often empty pool), with a sauna and jacuzzi. I went there yesterday with my adult daughter.

I work for myself and it often takes me to a lovely European city where I have a place to stay. I often combine work with the weekend, during which I wander the town, swim, go to the market or simply cook for myself and read.

Later this summer I’m going on a week’s writing retreat in the country where I can write, swim and walk. Last year I went on a similar retreat in Italy.

I’m a single mum of 3, so these are precious times. I’ve also come out of 2 abusive relationships so I’m taking great joy in creating calm, beauty and peace where I can.

Are these the kinds of things you meant @Bigiciuincailin ?!

These are absolutely fantastic. Loving reading them.

I have done the artistic circles of wildflowers thing on my previously boring lawn, and the garden is now full of orange and yellow flowers that open in the middle of the day, then close at night. The neighbours' cats sometimes come and sit picturesquely in the middle, the bees are quite fat and buzzy, and I have an old candle lantern that looks really nice in the dark and keeps foxes away.

Mine is that after having no kitchen (literally. Nothing) for 10 months, I have a rather handsome young kitchen fitter making my kitchen space beautiful.

And another, also rather handsome young man, a plumber this time, is fixing the shower that has been out of action for 4 months (we have no bath, so it's our only way to get clean, and trust me, stand up washes at the sink just don't cut it), so I am very much looking forward to having a disgustingly long shower once they've both left for the day

And I won £6.70 on the EuroMillions last night, so I'm currently deciding what to blow it on.

AND, the sun in shining, so can't grumble at anything today :😃

Yesterday my Berry patch produced 24 strawberries and 6 raspberries.

They taste amazing practically straight off the bush.

And we have buds on both the lemon and lime trees.

DH and I retired early, having worked all our lives, sold up and bought a beautiful villa in the Med.
currently sitting in the shade, overlooking the pool, and mumsnetting. Bliss.

I'm off today. So far made lentil soup and gone a walk with ds. Its sunny and peaceful here too.

Lentilweaver · 19/06/2024 15:26

I am living my best life in my fifties, now that my childcare years are done. I spend every week going to the theatre, museums, galleries, talks and gigs.

I do all this on a reasonable budget with seatfiller or cheap tickets. I also go away by myself on weekend trips as often as I can manage.

It's my time now, and I refuse to feel guilty.

sooverthisnow76 · 19/06/2024 15:26

I escaped an abusive marriage 2 years ago. I have 3 wonderful children though. I met a new partner and he is a walking green flag, we are so happy and taking things at a slow pace but really see a future in it. I've got a new job, huge pay rise and I have bought my own place. I've got 4 (!) holidays booked in the next 12 months. Unashamedly living my best life :)

This is the loveliest thread. I get home every night to my husband, I truly fancy and adore him as much as I did when we first met. We are trying for a baby and life is so exciting. I never even used to think I was maternal, I just love him so much every moment indoors together is a dream and its lovely to be this obsessed..my boyfriends before him all cheated and treated me terribly. It all seems worth it now to end up here :)

My adult daughter is having treatment for breast cancer. Today we decided to have lunch at her favourite place before her mid-way ultrasound. We had a lovely, chatty lunch and then got a call from the genetic counsellor telling us that her cancer is not from a faulty gene, which had been a huge stress factor for her. And then we were told that her tumour has already shrunk to half the original size and there is no sign of spread to the lymph nodes, despite some swelling that was worrying her.

Right now, that feels pretty great to us!

Pigeonqueen · 19/06/2024 15:38

I am usually very busy but today I’ve been very lazy and literally sat on my arse watching numerous travel vlogs on you tube - ironically living my life through them and then giving you my life to live through here 😳🤣 and I’ve just eaten whatever I fancy, lovely fish finger sandwich with salad on fresh bread and then tea and chocolate. Then I went out and did some gardening and watered the plants. It’s been a really nice day.

I'm just packing as I am off to the IOW festival tomorrow! Very excited, it has been sometime since I last went to one, the weather will hopefully hold out and I get a break from my lovely, but tiresome 3 and 6 year old!

Looking forward to Prodigy, The Streets and PetShop Boys!

I think my DD has recently turned a corner from being a grumpy, moody teenager and gone back to the cheerful, chatty, thoughtful child that I always hoped was still hiding in there somewhere

Mattttttt · 19/06/2024 15:43

At short notice (Friday afternoon last week) I managed to rearrange my days at work this week (they are very flexible like that) and spend Mon and Tue helping with a school sailing course on the Norfolk Broads. Stunning location, the weather was pretty good considering how grim it has been, and the kids were well behaved. I'm now back work (but actually looking at riverside houses on the Broads on Rightmove, trying to workout how to afford one :-))
