My life is complicated but I have 3 amazing children and most of the time an amazing husband. However our families are incredibly dysfunctional and cause a lot of headaches as they currently are doing.

Let me cheer myself up by living vicariously through you. Tell me the great stuff in your life.

I have decluttered my whole home and my life.
I made a thread about it.
Feels great 😃.

What is the AIBU here?

Really?

professionalnomad · 19/06/2024 19:08

I'm in the process of packing up my house after 10 very happy years abroad to move across the world to a new country. Today I took a load of really nice toys and clothes my baby has grown out of to a local Roma family (they are not treated well here). The smiles and thanks were just pure unadulterated joy that for a minute I completely forgot about all the stresses and anxiety about the move and was just able to enjoy the moment. Especially as it is Eid.

Reallytwoappointmentsinoneday · 19/06/2024 19:13

I went to my friends and spent the afternoon with a ten week old puppy snoring on my lap.

Lupina12 · 19/06/2024 19:30

I used to find running really painful, so always gave up. Long story short, I had awful pelvic pain during pregnancy (pgp) that stayed for 2 miserable years after I had the baby. This led me to finding an amazing physio, who through an intensive ten week programme changed the way I walk, stand, and taught me to lift weights and introduced me to barefoot shoes.

it totally worked for me and now I am pain free.

This week I dared trying running again....... and ran 4 miles! I can't believe it! I ache a little (obvs!) but not in pain. I am so chuffed. Excited about doing more and getting fitter into my glorious middle age :) :)

I’ve been off work since December last year and I’m taking the rest of this year and half of next year before I look for work.

I had a serious burnout last year and closed my business. We’re comfortable and DD is almost finished as a trainee solicitor so we don’t have any dependents. So DH insisted I take 18 months to recover.

I walk, swim, listen to music, crochet, watercolour paint and I’ve read 48 books so far this year. I’m not totally better but I feel much better than last year.

I'm about to apply to a Masters program starting in September. If anyone has the chance for some extended time off take it! Don’t wait until you burn yourself out so badly that your body literally makes you stop.

Sossijiz · 19/06/2024 19:33

I'm just about to announce my retirement after 39 years in the workforce.

ShinyPebble32 · 19/06/2024 19:41

I’m in my very late 30’s and have just booked a 4 day dance music festival in Malta! Do love a good festival at least once a year, won’t be stopping any time soon.
Also my new air b&b business is going well - just gearing up for the most important bookings of the year in a couple of weeks - eek!
This is a lovely thread, thank you - it’s been a challenging year but it’s nice to focus on the positives.

I've recently got back into playing the piano, which is such a joy. I achieved Grade 8 in 2016 at the age of 18 after having played since the age of 4, but was unfortunately forced to give it up when I went to uni/moved out of my parents house/got my first job in the city etc.

However now I have my own house with my husband, I got my own piano as well and it really does feel like I never stopped playing!

‘Very’ mature student doing an MA. I oscillate from ‘can’t do this’ to ‘this is fab’. Currently in a ‘this is fab’ hour.

Trail running. Love it. Love powering up hills.

I am living my best life in my fifties, now that my childcare years are done. I spend every week going to the theatre, museums, galleries, talks and gigs.

I do all this on a reasonable budget with seatfiller or cheap tickets. I also go away by myself on weekend trips as often as I can manage.

It's my time now, and I refuse to feel guilty.

I aspire to this in 5 years' time, thank you this will keep me going.

I have done the artistic circles of wildflowers thing on my previously boring lawn, and the garden is now full of orange and yellow flowers that open in the middle of the day, then close at night. The neighbours' cats sometimes come and sit picturesquely in the middle, the bees are quite fat and buzzy, and I have an old candle lantern that looks really nice in the dark and keeps foxes away.

Oh that’s fabulous! You’ve inspired me to get on and sprinkle the boxes of wildflower seed we have sitting in the cupboard.

EverestMilton · 19/06/2024 19:55

Got up at the arse crack of dawn to take my pony up on the Common in the glorious sunshine. We had the whole place to ourselves so were free to just canter around in blissful peace and take in the view. Home for coffee, croissants and carrots. Best start to the day!!

I've been having a little tidy in the garden and now sitting in the sun with a G & T. I'm watching the baby Blue Tits that recently fledged from our bird box.

3catsandcounting · 19/06/2024 20:03

I'm retiring early(ish) from my job in Primary school. My garden is going to get so much attention, but I'm determined to just sit on the back doorstep with a cup of tea and look at my flowers too!
My DD, who took us all through too many teenage angst years has turned into the most delightful young woman, and my DS who was such a quiet homebody has got a great job and ventured across the other side of the UK. My children are happy.😻and so am I.

SGsling · 19/06/2024 20:06

I’ve been dating someone for a few months. Wednesday lunch together has been practically sacred from the off.

He was due to have a friend visit yesterday but friend changed the plan to visit today.
Without prompting he asked whether I was free to swap. I was, and was happy he did it proactively because I want him to have a lovely time with his friends, but also I want to see him on our day, and I didn’t want to be petulant about it.
As a bonus, he’s asked me this evening whether I would be free to have lunch with him tomorrow too?

Being in the lovely, early phase of a relationship is so nice.

Waitingfordoggo · 19/06/2024 20:09

Lovely thread.

The highlight of my day was teaching two Bodybalance classes during which I was able to find some headspace. What makes it even better is getting to the end of the class and seeing how relaxed and accomplished my participants feel. They leave smiling and looking blissed-out 💚

SadieContrary · 19/06/2024 20:11

This thread is an absolute joy!
Whilst my life isn’t perfect, it has some pretty perfect bits in it - mainly my wonderful DH and DD. Just got a promotion too after a long slog and only 2 weeks until I go on holiday.

Temushopper · 19/06/2024 20:12

Had a lovely night away with a friend from the office tagged onto a work trip so we only had to pay for a dinner and one night B&B in the hotel but got majority of two days to enjoy the pool and explore.
Work trip was all lovely hotels and awesome catering so it was a nice break inspite of being a busy agenda. Also won some awards on there so have several hundred pounds in vouchers that will fund a family weekend away.

IWouldRatherBeOnHoliday · 19/06/2024 20:17

What a lovely thread!

I am tired and sore and bloated today...but for a good reason. We're having IVF and I had an egg collection on Monday. We have seven little embryos growing in the lab. I know they won't all make it, but right now they've restored my hope that my wonderful husband and I might get to be parents one day.

Ooh, and after months of trying to eat healthily beforehand, having a few chocolate biscuits was a lovely treat this afternoon.

TealDog · 19/06/2024 20:17

I’m sat in the garden listening to the birds, my 2 year old little boy is tucked up in bed safe, DH is painting the nursery and getting ready for DC2. I always wanted a family and I can’t believe how lucky I am to have the family that I do.

Recently started a meditation circle with 2 friends; absolutely love it. We try to do it weekly, put the world to rights first, then meditate 🧘‍♀️, then discuss how we felt the meditation went. Use a beautiful sound bowl and use essential oils in a diffuser to help deepen the meditation. One of us typically ends up snoring! 🤣

Made myself a body oil this morning; jojoba carrier oil and added Neroli, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Bergamot and Petitgrain essential oils. When I applied it this morning I felt SO happy with the beautiful scent!

I'm loving looking at my toes atm as my lovely friend did a French pedi on them on Monday. Everytime I look at them, my heart sings! ❤️ it's the little things.
