My life is complicated but I have 3 amazing children and most of the time an amazing husband. However our families are incredibly dysfunctional and cause a lot of headaches as they currently are doing.

Let me cheer myself up by living vicariously through you. Tell me the great stuff in your life.

My life has been unbelievably shit recently, bit I will tell you one of my greatest joys as this year the opportunities have been few and far between but when I can do it it makes such a difference to my happiness … I appreciate it is a little niche so you may not find it so relaxing and enjoyable!

On a warm sunny afternoon/evening in summer I go up to an area of pine woodland near my house, it has no proper paths so no one else really walks through it but there are lovely sunny clearings. I find a nice sunny mound of soil near where all the wild berries and gorse are flowering and I sit in the sunshine for ages watching all the bees and insects buzzing and scurrying around. In early summer there are lots of different species of bumblebees, solitary bees, wasps and hover fly going about their business, lots of busy little wood ants and colourful beetles all of which are absolutely fascinating to watch. Sometimes I take my binoculars and watch the birds going about their lives too.

The pine forest and gorse smell absolutely amazing on a warm day, like coconut and vanilla, that along with the buzzing of bees and bird song make it absolute heaven to sit there on a sunny day and not think about anything other than insects and birds living their lives! Sometimes I get a tick or 2 and being the wildlife home but I think it’s worth it 🤣

Oh another from me and probably should have been the main one. After being diagnosed with early stage cancer in December, total hysterectomy in January I was given the all clear in February. My recovery was textbook and DH was an absolute superstar looking after me and all the domestics.

So many beautiful, life affirming posts in this thread; thank you for sharing them. 💛

I have a family of rabbits in my garden two black & 3 brown. They visit daily usually when I am doing the washing up & they bring me such joy!

I have a cool job - own my own corporate event agency and we are busy at the moment.

I went to London last minute on Monday and spent 6 hours touring some very cool venues as a VIP potential booked - including Tower Bridge

Last weekend I was with a group at a luxury 5 star hotel which was a long day but amazing place to work. Plus I got there the night before so I could chill on my own in the spa and have room service in my fluffy robe.

Next week I'm doing something very similar at another 5 star hotel this time with 2 great freelance colleagues!

I treat myself to the new Stephen King book of short stories and had such a relaxing few hours this morning once the DC had gone to school reading and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. It was such a good day off work. Usually it's taken up with appointments etc, but today was just for me!

My little boy who is 7 months has started initiatin cuddles around my legs and kissing me

lifesrichpageant · 19/06/2024 23:10

I really like my husband and my two children are healthy and happy.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 20/06/2024 00:16

I've just got home from work. The house is quiet as my DH and two DCs are all asleep. My two cats are expecting me to entertain them. I was too busy for tea so I've just eaten a caramel & cookie ice cream and am debating whether to watch a little Tv or just go straight to bed. I've got one more day of work then I'm off for a week's annual leave. Yippee!!

Confusedmeanderings · 20/06/2024 00:24

Wednesday is my favourite day of the week and it's been gloriously sunny and warm. I go to an art group on Wednesday mornings and I finished a painting I've been working on for a while. It isn't perfect, but I'm pleased with it. Then I did a spot of shopping - all things I wanted, not boring every day housey things. I had coffee sat at a table outside in the sun and got home with enough time to nap before going to work. Perfect!

I have a 4 year old. The other month my husband took her to a garden centre . She made an old woman chuckle when she loudly declared “ I need this in my life” when eyeing up bath bonbs 😂

We bought a holiday home a couple of weeks ago that we've been yearning for, for 25 years.

It is a specific house that we narrowly lost out on buying 25 years ago when we lived nearby and have always regretted not getting it. The plan was to have it as our primary home, but we were were simply outbid. It then sold again just before covid for the first time in about 20 years, before we even realised it was on the market (devastated).

Last year we were on holiday in the area and decided to pop a letter through the door. Well lo and behold we got a response in April this year and we got the keys 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately our lives are now firmly established 2 hours away so moving here full time is out of the question at the moment, but this will be our seaside bolthole for the next 20 years and then we will retire here.

5 bed detached, 1.5 acres of gardens, 100 meters from a lovely quiet, non touristy beach with lots of walks for the dogs. It is literally everything we wanted and the best bit is that we are in a place in life that we could buy it mortgage free so we don't have to airbnb it to make ends meet, it will remain our own private bolthole for us and our families. We are absolutely on cloud nine at the moment, we have been here for the last 2 weeks (yes we took the kids out of school but I don't care!).

DW and the kids have to go home this weekend, I have to leave tomorrow as I've got a job to do in London on Friday and need to travel home first for kit, but we can leave it all set up so we can now pick the kids up from school at 3:15 on a friday, zoom down here and be settled in before 6! No need to pack or plan or anything, everything is here.

SO SO SO HAPPY!

What a lovely thread!

My life is not problem free, but:

I am staying with my parents for a day or two. I love them, and this house, which I was actually born in.

I got a promotion at work recently and am loving my job - it is really fulfilling.

My partner and I have really started to talk more openly recently and work on our relationship. I now think we can have a brilliant future whereas previously I have worried we wouldn't make it. We have both started to learn the art of compromise.

I only have a few friends but they are loyal and funny and amazing women and I love them. I have plans to meet up with each of the most important ones in the next week or so.

My lovely daughter is going camping at the weekend with friends. Can't wait to hear all about it - I think it will be great.

That's the best one I have read. A friend of ours is having a rough time at the moment as she is right in the middle of the same thing having had her op a couple of months ago. Her recovery hasn't been quite as quick but she's getting there.

Wonderful to read an account from someone with a positive outcome. Thank you.

there is a Robin in my garden that follows me around. I've never fed him, so not sure why. adorable little thing.

I have done the artistic circles of wildflowers thing on my previously boring lawn, and the garden is now full of orange and yellow flowers that open in the middle of the day, then close at night. The neighbours' cats sometimes come and sit picturesquely in the middle, the bees are quite fat and buzzy, and I have an old candle lantern that looks really nice in the dark and keeps foxes away.

Oh my gosh. I'm in the newborn trenches. Can I visit? 🥹 Sounds lovely!

KinshipCorner · 20/06/2024 10:06

These posts are so lovely!

I love to appreciate the small things.
I'm having a gorgeous, peaceful morning, my working week is done.

School run combined with dog walk, home to peg out the first load of laundry and now I'm sitting in the garden with a pot of tea and a croissant, listening to the radio and the birds singing their hearts out.
This is my bliss.

This is such a beautiful thread! Love reading about little things in life that make others happy. It was DS sports day yesterday and he won one of his races so he was so happy but I just loved seeing how happy he was taking part in all the races. Every time he ran past me and DH he would give us the biggest smile and wave. It was a great day.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/06/2024 11:23

I live in a nice house, mortgage-free and with no structural/damp/roof/window etc. problems
I have a wonderful husband
We have enough money to live on
I have a lovely family
The last CT scan following breast cancer treatment showed no recurrence

However it has not always been like that and I feel very lucky. There are lots of things I would like, my health back, more money for holidays and so that I could retire, a swimming pool! But I am very happy with what I have.

Arraminta · 20/06/2024 11:31

Tomorrow we're heading down to Cornwall for a week with our DDs who are home from university. We've blown the budget and are staying at the most gorgeous cottage over looking the river. DH and I have a huge, free standing copper bath in our en suite! We're planning picnics on the beach, lots of walks and playing French cricket. Also got a table booked at Rick Stein's. Cannot wait!

I’ve recently given up work as my husband could see how stressed I was getting. DS has just left High school and we have loads of things planned for the summer.

Me too!!!! What are your plans for the summer? I'm thinking a couple of holiday breaks abroad, sorting out the house and garden, and a trip to London. Any other ideas?

DS and I are planning trips by train to a couple of nearby cities - both into history so enjoy museums and a bit of shopping. Big family holiday planned for end of August.
House needs a big tidy so we have ordered a skip. I may even tackle the lawn at some point - has always been DHs job!!

Thanks I enjoyed this lovely thread which I worked my way through during the night feeds with my baby. He is our little bit of happiness right now. Our third time lucky after two miscarriages and so adored by us all. Hope the sun is shining where you all are today

I'm just travelling back from a week doing a quite perfect job. It literally landed on my lap and has snowballed into something really quite interesting.

I'm moving house at the weekend. Back to the house ex DP and I bought together. I moved out years ago, he's moving and giving it back to me.

I feel like circles are being squared with very little input from me and I'm very grateful.
