Which Noise Annoys You?

My husband walks around the house "singing". Well it's not really singing, it's just "la la la" to no particular tune.

I should be pleased he's happy but it annoys the hell out of me!

Urgh. Yes. The slurping of dogs cleaning themselves. Utterly disgusting.

The sound of plastic packets rustling. Haribo bags. That kind of plastic. Sets me right on edge.

ItsItchy · 20/06/2024 20:54

Everyone eating but particularly when they eat noodles!

Dogs barking

My teenage daughter and her friends squealing when they talk excitedly) almost to the point of it being a scream)

Cliff Richard.

If I'm honest it's not primarily his voice, but everything about him.

Sorry Cliff, I'm sure you're a very nice man!?

Mountainhowl · 20/06/2024 21:02

My kids stomping around on the laminate (particularly if I'm working on the floor below, they sound like elephants)

Chewing/mouth noises

Eldest humming (it's his stim unfortunately!)

OH snoring

The sound FIL makes when he's got an itchy throat

Cars with stupid penis extension exhausts speeding past

Those cat deterrent things

FlissyPaps · 20/06/2024 21:04

Was babysitting my nephew (just sent him up to bed).

He was playing on his iPad - full volume, had MY iPad next to him with YouTube on and he wanted to watch Spain V Italy Euros on the TV. All at once 😰. So multiple noise all at once.

Im now sat in complete silence. And my head hurts ha.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 20/06/2024 21:52

An alaris pump alarming I swear I can still hear it when I leave 🙄

Scaredycat259 · 20/06/2024 21:55

Snoring
The neighbours toddler who screams like air being let out of a balloon, the sneaky sound.
The neighbours kids screaming and throwing toys at the walls til gone midnight
The sound of their parents shouting at above kids.
People who whistle when they breathe 🤣

Summertimer · 20/06/2024 22:01

The murdering of the English language that seems all too common on ads on UK tv. “Meawls’, not proceeding UK or US with “the”, the latest Shark ad for their haircare product that says “suitable for all hairs kinds” when it should say “all kinds of hair”.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/06/2024 22:28

I can relate. People singing (especially if they're out of tune) and whistling grates on me. I always feel a bit guilty about that as it seems so joyless, but it just grinds my gears. I'd never tell anyone to stop just because I don't like it though.

The real doozie for me, though, is that 'Uh, uh, uh, uuuuuh' thing people do while yawning. 😬😬😬 No idea why but it annoys the heck out of me. 😄 Again, I wouldn't expect anyone to stop just because I don't like it, but I do find myself gritting my teeth when DH does it.

MoonWoman69 · 21/07/2024 17:38

My OH when he forgets what he was going to say halfway through talking. He does this "dum diddle dum diddle dum dum dum" thing, but really fast! It irritates the life out of me and embarrasses me when I hear him on the phone doing it to whoever he's talking to. It's the most annoying place filler ever! In fact, it's only dawned on me recently, that he can't actually be quiet, unless watching TV! In the kitchen if he's washing up or making something to eat, he's either chattering away to himself or singing, but not actually singing a song. We've been together 34 years and I have only just come to this realisation. I think it was the menopause that highlighted it! 🤣

NChange10 · 21/07/2024 20:33

@TheThingIsYeah I used to suffer from allergies. And no amount of tissues helps. You have e to sniff. Or have tissues stick up your nose.
I've grown out of it now. After 40. They need certizine hydrochloride. It horrible having a constantly runny nose no one sniffs for fun.

AlpiniPraline · 21/07/2024 20:35

I'm an oyster and a noisy noise annoys me.

Dunnoburt · 21/07/2024 20:39

Eating.....anyone eating......and dogs barking constantly.......

Rainbow1901 · 21/07/2024 21:27

There are two other people sat in my living room watching TV and they are both constantly coughing or clearing their throats really loudly - driving me bonkers!!

oakleaffy · 21/07/2024 22:03

Sniffing,{Sounds like someone shovelling wet gravel} Coughing, snoring. eating {especially apples and toast} dogs barking, children screeching and crying.

Namechange1086 · 21/07/2024 22:11

My husband 🤣🤣

Bettysnow · 21/07/2024 22:23

Most adverts on the telly and the awful noise they make.
Nearly every ad seems to involve people shouting and screeching at the top of their lungs regardless of what they're trying to sell along with bloody awful music

Adviceneeeeded · 21/07/2024 22:29

Performance sneezing. Young Dc who whine or do that cry that isn't a cry. For some reason, my phone ringing. It's not the ringtone. I tried different ones. Puts me on edge, so I have it on vibrate. And people eating.

FindingMeno · 21/07/2024 22:39

Chocolateorange22 · 18/06/2024 21:47

Constant noise.
My DH has to listen to the radio in the shower, whilst eating his breakfast and when he's not in work meetings. Then there is listening to videos or putting the TV on despite sitting on his phone. Why the constant noise throughout the day. I find I'm very sensitive to noise even though I'm moderately deaf and a hearing aid user. Add in the kids fighting/arguing every ten seconds and I'm in sensory overload

Edited

Wholeheartedly agree.

Pigeons! Noisy, feathery little fuckers! I bloody hate the noise and mess they make!

I've just come back from a hotel stay which was brilliant in every way except for the pigeons which perched on the ledge outside. The window didn't shut properly so you couldn't shut out their noise

JohnTheRevelator · 21/07/2024 23:44

Snoring.
Loud sneezing.
Sniffing.
Footballs being bounced repeatedly on a hard surface.
Whistling.
Tuneless humming.
Cutlery being scraped on a plate.
People who make an 'aaahh' noise every time they take a sip of a drink.
People noisily chewing gum.

randomchap · 21/07/2024 23:54

chewing, slurping, lip smacking, breathing (if it's audible), crunching

essentially any organic noise

Which isn't great with 2 under 10

KreedKafer · 22/07/2024 21:46

XenoBitch · 19/06/2024 22:34

Christ, I have a friend who sneezes very audibly, but it is not loud in a bellowing way.. it is a very squeaky "cheeeew", and my god, it makes me want to throttle her and get her to sneeze in a way that actually clears her tubes.

One of my friends calls these sorts of people ‘Disney sneezers’. She and I are united in our dislike of twee sneezing and would rather hear a proper sinus-blasting roar any day of the week.

ThursdayTomorrow · 22/07/2024 21:46

People talking with food in their mouths.

ToddlerMumma · 22/07/2024 21:50

I react VERY strongly to loud sudden noises. I think it's PTSD. Also any tapping noises (DD tapping a pen Angry) or buzzing noises (dishwasher, washing machine, mower etc). Husband sneezing, snoring, eating, breathing..... most noises come to think of it!
