To think the never ending criticism of Rishi Sunak is rooted in racism?

I know he's not perfect as none of our politicians are! But I do feel like people are out to trip him up over personal things as much as possible. This Sky TV thing is Rodin my opinion - Rishi has never claimed to have had a difficult start or to have grown up in poverty. The journalist pressed him for what he went without in order that his parents could afford his private education and he said he always wanted Sky TV and never had it. He was saying it in a fairly lighthearted way he wasn't moaning or complaining!

People can't seem to handle the fact that he's wealthy and also the puns on his name and the claims he's "unpatriotic". I feel a little bit of thinly veiled racism creeping in.

Please don't with the race baiting.

I think more than anything, it's because he's a tory, and everyone loves to hate on tories!

I wonder why?

No. It’s because he is a selfish and deluded little twerp. Newsflash - people of colour can be twats too. As can women. See Liz Truss for clarification.
And let’s not forget the clearly racist Suella too.

We didn't have Sky growing up either. He's virtually the same age as me and it wasn't actually that big (and way more expensive) back then than it is today.

It also didn't come about until 1990. So like me Sky didn't exist for most of our childhood and he was 10 when it actually came about FFS.

Edited

It was seen as terribly common to have a sky dish! We didn’t have it either, not because we couldn’t afford it, but because DM would have been too embarrassed to have one stuck on the side of the house.

(We watched it on holiday)

Liz Truss was well deserved criticism of her performance, David Cameron didn't have people trying to trip him up at every single opportunity like what we are seeing happening here.

What, david the pigfucker?

gamerchick · 12/06/2024 19:09

ll09sm · 12/06/2024 13:41

Are you name changing and starting multiple threads to just fuel race baiting?

Has it occurred to you that he may just be a moron? And an incompetent politician?

I thought exactly the same...

LlynTegid · 12/06/2024 19:10

I agree some of the criticism is racist or 'dog whistle', especially that from Nigel Farage the other day. However:

I think some is because his family are wealthy.
I think some of it is because he was prepared to accept things most people would not to get ahead, such as working for Boris Johnson under terms set by Dominic Cummings.
I think some is from poor decisions such as Eat out to Help out.

The comments about his height are unreasonable too, though would be said about any man below average height (Nicolas Sarkozy had a lot, for example).

Above all, even though I think he is less bad than Liz Truss or the traitor Boris Johnson, he is still one of the worst Prime Ministers in recent times.

I'm sure race is an issue for some. However I'd say for a lot of us, it's because he's a tory and a lot of people hate everything they stand for.

ohfook · 12/06/2024 19:14

I hate him because he's a Tory more concerned with making rich people richer than doing anything to improve the lot of his constituents, although I hate him slightly less than I hate gove, bojo and truss so I don't think his race has anything to do with it for me personally.

I did think all the chat about him not understanding Dday did have a bit of a racist undertone but generally I think conservatives and their donors are greedier than they are racist so they're probably happy to overlook his race if it makes them richer.

JamSlagsNowPlease · 12/06/2024 19:17

No. It's rooted in his being a lying little weasel.

MyQuaintDog · 12/06/2024 19:17

Rishi Sunak is totally incompetent. It would be racist to pretend he is competent purely because he is asian.

NoSnowdrop · 12/06/2024 19:18

It’s not thinly veiled racism, it’s envy.

His name is a gift for making a pun about someone who is very very very rich. This is not racism.

There's an election on and of course he’s going to get more flak as the sitting PM.

Aladdinzane · 12/06/2024 19:20

@WorriedMama12

"I think more than anything, it's because he's a tory, and everyone loves to hate on tories!"

Then Tories shouldn't give everyone so much to hate.

LakieLady · 12/06/2024 19:26

It's nothing to do with his race, it's because he's a useless knob of a Tory who likes nothing better than lining the pockets of his wealthy chums, while shitting on the ordinary people who don't earn 6 or 7 figure sums and rely on public services for their healthcare, education and a shedload of other stuff. Women are especially damaged by this, because they earn less on average and more likely to have caring responsibilities.

There are scores of others like him in parliament and most of the senior ones have smelt the shit before it comes off the shovel and are standing down.

I don't rate Starmer particularly highly but at least he won't make life worse for those on below average incomes, or who can't afford private healthcare, private education for their kids, or who have to pay crazy rents for some shitty flat because they haven't made funding available to build more than a smattering of social housing.

The Sky tv thing was a fucking insult to those who have to go to food banks, and almost as arse-clenchingly embarrassing as when he asked that homeless guy if he'd considered working in finance.

To try and pretend that the criticism is based on race is disingenuous and shows a gob-smacking lack of awareness. It's about what he does, not who he is.

Tiredalwaystired · 12/06/2024 19:27

I’m not seeing that he’s getting much different treatment to Boris or Liz to be honest.

WhoGivesaSpit · 12/06/2024 19:27

No, it's rooted in him being an absolute twatbag.

LakieLady · 12/06/2024 19:27

I feel so much better for that rant. 😁

MyQuaintDog · 12/06/2024 19:29

Even his own Conservative Ministers have criticised him. Leaving D Day early for an election interview FFS.

TorturedPoetsDepartmentAnthology · 12/06/2024 19:30

He’s a knob, less of a knob than Boris but still a knob. I am sure he’s a decent enough bloke but I think he’s been a poor prime minister.

Daz57 · 12/06/2024 19:34

FishPhoods · 12/06/2024 13:42

No I'm not name changing actually.

I think people are being unfairly critical and nitpicking over things that don't matter instead of focussing on the politics of it all. Why is he a moron? Why use language like that?

Calling him a moron is not acceptable and unkind. But this seems to be the level on MN now.

Abitorangelooking · 12/06/2024 19:38

I don't actually mind him at least he's not truss or Boris. I think people are just tired of the conservatives and the media are a bit like sharks who've scented blood. Now it's a competition to see who can get the shittiest soundbite on record.

Just really needs to keep his head screwed on and try not to do the man of the people routine and he can slink off in a dignified way to be megarich.

Pin0cchio · 12/06/2024 19:39

Yabu

He's the leader of a currently unpopular political party who have had 14 years governing the country and fucked it up royally.

He's a rich man with a rich wife with questionable tax affairs, at a time when huge swathes of the population can barely make ends meet, and he's done nothing to close the gap.

He's yet another privileged, out of touch public school boy and ordinary people have realised he's not on their side.

He may as well be roaming westminster with a sign on his back saying "kick me", its got nothing to do with his ethnicity.

MyQuaintDog · 12/06/2024 19:44

@Daz57 the things he is saying and doing either indicate he is not very intelligent, or is trying to lose the election.

Georgyporky · 12/06/2024 19:44

I don't care what colour he is.

He's an extremely rich Tory bastard who has no idea how ordinary people live.

WorriedMama12 · 12/06/2024 19:49

Aladdinzane · 12/06/2024 19:20

@WorriedMama12

I agree. But that's not the OPs question, which I was answering.
