I’ve reached the point of feeling a totally irrational surge of rage whenever I see them which is every damn day…

“I was today years old when”

“POV”

“That feeling when”

Anything that is referred to as a “hack”.

Calling an outfit a “fit”

OP posts:
Frazzledmummy123 · 12/06/2024 09:53

'Not all heroes wear capes'

'I'm not crying, you're crying'

Not so much a phrase, but when people check in to a&e or a hospital but with no text. Total attention seeking!

Frazzledmummy123 · 12/06/2024 09:54

FeralNun · 12/06/2024 09:37

‘Hack’, when they mean ‘tip’ or ‘short cut’.

It makes me want to hack. With an axe.

Agreed!

GentlemanJohnny · 12/06/2024 09:56

Anything that "they don't want you to know" followed by some totally banal bit of info that anyone with the slightest knowledge of the subject has known about for years.

ColdGirlWinter · 12/06/2024 09:56

LaMarschallin · 12/06/2024 07:07

KarenOH

There’s a Welsh Tik Tokker who calls everything “stunnin”

I know it's a different point from the one you're making, but I really dislike any deliberate dropped g's with an apostrophe instead. "Just sayin' " being the most annoying, imo.
I know they want to sound all tongue-in-cheek and knowing, but it's harder work typing that and all just to look like an arse. An unoriginal arse, at that.

Sorry, KarenOH - just realised you meant that's the way she says rather than writing it Blush
Ignore me (if you haven't already!).

I stand by my dislike of "Just sayin' " though...

Edited

It drives me bonkers too. You've just said something, so why do you need to just say that you've just said something? Everyone can read that you've just said it.

PollyWollyCrappy · 12/06/2024 09:57

Hey girlypops, just hopping on here really quickly to show you this absolutely stunning lipstick by (insert brand name because it's sponsored), it's absolutely giving barbie summer vibes, I'm LIDURALLY obsessed with it, I got it in the shade (insert weird Nars name) (holds it up to the camera with their hand behind it so focuses).

BeardofHagrid · 12/06/2024 09:58

I watched either a clothing haul or a makeup tutorial recently and throughout its entirety, the girl talked about herself in third person (“Yas, she is glowing”) and all the items as she/her 💀

HereComesColinFrissel · 12/06/2024 10:05

I'm sure it's already been mentioned but

"I did a thing"

Argh!!!!!!!!! Makes me irrationally angry

And "this one"....."lunch date with this one" - Oh just fuck off

Great thread OP

Carouselfish · 12/06/2024 10:07

'Toxic' everything anyone ever does that is slightly negative is toxic. Overused so much. Hate psychotherapy speech.

JudgeJ · 12/06/2024 10:09

LaMarschallin · 12/06/2024 07:59

Ooh, ooh! I know GOAT
Greatest of All Time

I'm still young and hip!
(Not really - I'm old with a clicky hip)

Sorry - overexcited.
That was to Majellaa

Edited

Ditto, it's been like reading a foreign language but I do know GOAT, being a sports fan!

Howbizarre22 · 12/06/2024 10:09

“Forever home”

Starting a post or paragraph with So…

KarenSmithsWeatherBoobs · 12/06/2024 10:10

I'll wait.

Like "Name someone that has had no fillers. I'll wait."

JudgeJ · 12/06/2024 10:11

GingerPirate · 12/06/2024 08:23

Slightly different from Facebook, Instagram etc.

But it's where we oldies seen most of the garbage.

Reallybadidea · 12/06/2024 09:02

"I have the receipts" meaning proof. Usually screenshots to prove that the person they're arguing with/about is lying. I just don't understand what is wrong with saying proof or screenshots? Receipts are the little bits of paper screwed up at the bottom of my handbag and they're not usually so exciting.

I remember this one started after the Whitney Houston interview. When Barbara Walters asked about her "alleged" crack habit she said "Crack is wack. Prove that i bought it. Show me the receipts!" Or something crazy to that effect. Whenever someone called out from work during the epidemic I always said I wanna see the receipts!

pontipinemum · 12/06/2024 10:15

Tell me you are 'a mom' without telling me you are 'a mom' change mom for anything!

Also when they are eating in videos, I really just don't get it. Sometimes they are talking about nothing to do with the food at all. But I watched about 10 seconds of a very beautiful woman who worked at some donut place go through what she ate all day. It was just a full on lips smacking, very exaggerated eating, weird video!

Objectrelations · 12/06/2024 10:18

All of it

ttcat37 · 12/06/2024 10:20

“If you know you know!” Well yes, obviously

“take me back!” Just showing off your old holiday pics because you’ve not gone anywhere good this year

MessyHouseHappyHouse · 12/06/2024 10:24

I don’t use social media apart from Mumsnet so I’ve no idea what most of these comments are about. What does POV mean if not point of view?

I do have a teen but he’s pretty silent most of the time 😂 so I don’t learn any new lingo from him.

Must admit, I’d rather meet up with friends for a coffee than scroll on Instagram. DH looks at it as his oldest son posts on there and it’s the only way to find out what he’s been doing lately, but I really can’t be bothered. Who cares what some ‘sleb’ or random person thinks about cleaning or what they’ve just eaten? How does it affect me? 🤷🏻‍♀️

HectorPlasm · 12/06/2024 10:26

Haven't RTFT. Have we had 'if you know, you know' yet? Usually with some darkened picture of Mr Incredible

Starlight1979 · 12/06/2024 10:26

Unalived
IYKYK
Spill the tea

Noodlehen · 12/06/2024 10:26

I hate “fuck off and die” lol 😂 how can a saying die? It’s never used in a context where something can actually die and just is ridiculous to me.

other than that, I hate it’s giving and #bekind

HectorPlasm · 12/06/2024 10:26

Aaaannnnd - I can see it 2 posts higher than mine - sorry!

Starlight1979 · 12/06/2024 10:27

ttcat37 · 12/06/2024 10:20

"Take me back" AKA please admire this photo of me in a bikini.

ThankGodForDancingFruit · 12/06/2024 10:28

Close ups of someone cracking eggs and mashing ingredients… if you mix x with y… and then them tasting their creation with a smug look on their face.

’What I/my baby eats in a day - realistic’. Realistic.

Posts of someone posing with their amazing knitting/crochet, captioned ‘my husband/everyone told me my work was rubbish/ I am embarsssing/ no one would like my cuz’. AI or stolen pictures.

’I am an x year old artist, this is my work’ - not sure why age is relevant, and anyway, it’s blatantly click bait and not even true.

AI pictures of ‘grandmas’ posing with pink Disney princess dresses. When you look closely, they have 6 fingers/crochet hooks coming from their arms…

Ishouldgodostuff · 12/06/2024 03:32

And I'm not going to be able to describe this properly but loads of Instagram influencers now want you to DM them a word, say "Jeans" or a something #recipe" so they can send you a link for the buy/how to make it.
Just post it up on your page - I cannot be faffed with links sent to my Inbox, so scroll on by

There's a valid reason for this though - it drives engagement to their page and pushes them higher up the algorithms, thereby making it more likely they can make money from what they're creating. I think it's fair enough if they make and post things for free that they can get something back from it..

MorvernBlack · 12/06/2024 10:33

Nom, nom, nom - fuck off, fuck off, fuck off. And I don't even care how good the "Pinch of Nom" books are, I can't have that sat on my shelf.

And people who say words are "literal violence", they are not. Well maybe just Nom, nom...
