Henry loves this "dam"

Peregrina · 14/06/2024 12:23

Audible sighs of exasperation from Mr Henry.

minou123 · 14/06/2024 12:32

He is such a liar.

Of course he knew POL decided to to disclose to Seema Misra.

Does he think we are all stupid?

I missed this bit as I was making breakfast. What wasn't disclosed?

minou123 · 14/06/2024 12:37

Not to disclose Gareth Jenkins was a piss poor expert witness.

GJ had given oral evidence in Seemas trial.
Henry is questioning AP if he knew about the decision not disclose to Seema about GJ, so she could appeal.
AP is claiming he didn't know anything about it.

Liar, liar, pants on fire 🔥

minou123 · 14/06/2024 12:42

Sorry, should say

I think the point Mr Henry is making is whilst AP is not a criminal lawyer, he had a duty to report/flag up that other lawyers were failing in their duties for disclosure.

Because AP didn't do anything about this, he is just as culpable as everyone else and his "nowt to do wiv me guv" excuse isn't good enough.

I think.

Quirkyme · 14/06/2024 12:49

Okay I have a Q.

Can someone tell me what everyone around whoever's asking the Qs, looking at their laptops is doing? What is their actual purpose?

minou123 · 14/06/2024 12:53

I had exactly the same thought @Quirkyme

I assume either taking their own transcript. Or highlighting key pieces of information to prepare for their closing statements.
Or preparing for the next witnesses next week.
Not sure.

Many are the lawyers representing other core participants who - even if they don't have their own questions - will need to monitor the proceedings and potentially may have questions for the parties they represent.

There is also a public gallery (source of most groans)

minou123 · 14/06/2024 13:02

Second Soght next week.

I for one am looking forward to hearing what they are going to share with the inquiry.

nauticant · 14/06/2024 13:11

Friday could be a bit of a dark horse day: George Thomson - former General Secretary of the National Federation of Subpostmasters (NFSP).

As a matter of policy the NFSP appears to think it is far better to throw the odd member under a bus than potentially devalue the product.

minou123 · 14/06/2024 13:57

Yes @nauticant hearing from George Thomson will be interesting. We've heard a lot about him.

Alan Bates and Lee Castleton have not painted him in a great light, so it'll be interesting what his response to that will be.
I think the current NFSP have completely disowned him.

IIRC there he also made a very nasty comment about a SPMR in an email.to Paula Vennells.

No doubt, that will be brought up.

CustardySergeant · 14/06/2024 14:11

It's Gareth Jenkins the week after next. Has he still got a job btw?

Following the King's birthday honours just announced, it's now Sir Alan Bates.

Peregrina · 14/06/2024 23:09

That must really annoy a good many people involved including today's prize witness.

Harassedevictee · 14/06/2024 23:32

Well deserved Sir Alan Bates.👏

what Karma to learn of it whilst PV was giving evidence.

minou123 · 14/06/2024 23:33

I am so happy he has been honoured with a knighthood. Sir Alan Bates is fantastic.

I wish all the SPMR could be honoured as they are all incredibly brave and have worked so hard for the last 20 years.

As we've seen they had all the odds stacked against them.
From the investigators, to lawyers, to CEOs, PR and all the way up to Lords.
Incredible.

Yes, he said he was basically accepting it on behalf of all of Justice for Sub-Postmasters Alliance.

Typically modest!

So pleased for him and them... and what fantastic timing!

AutumnCrow · 15/06/2024 10:40

I’m loving the serendipity of Mr Gareth Jenkins and Sir Alan Bates.

The timing of the confirmations of titles feels karmic.
