To think DH should sit in the front?

BusyCM · 09/06/2024 10:06

Now and again we get an Uber with DD for quite journey of about 25/30 mins. Every time DH squeezes in the back with me and DD. I should say we are both a bit bigger and DH is tall. Dd id a teenager. He opens the door for us and we get in and then he makes us budge up and we all sit squashed in whilst the front passenger seat is empty.

Is this weird? He thinks you don't sit in the front seat, I think he should.

I would sit in the front but I generally think he should and secondly he gestures for me to get in first and then gets in after. It would be silly for me to get back out and walk around to the front seat.

What do you think?

I think in most other areas of life, he's very gentlemanly and thinks of me and dd, puts our comfort first.

and yet you haven’t been able to raise this with him ever before?

discountsandoffers · 09/06/2024 15:39

i wonder how often this scenario actually arises

Mnetcurious · 09/06/2024 15:44

I think it’s silly for three adults to squeeze in the back and leave the front seat empty. Your reasons for not going in the front yourself aren’t especially strong though. Next time just say before the taxi arrives “I don’t like us all squeezing in the back, are you going to sit in the front or shall I?” then you’ll know what you’re doing.

Bournetilly · 09/06/2024 15:47

You are being ridiculous expecting him to sit in the front but you won’t. If there’s not much room then someone should sit in the front but why should it be him?

Choochoo21 · 09/06/2024 15:52

YANBU but if this happens every time then why not just go and sit straight in the front yourself.

Saves you all being squished in together.

WhenTheMoonShines · 09/06/2024 15:59

See this is why at least one half of a couple should hold a license, it would save bizarre disappointments like this Grin (around these ways everyone squeezes into the back. No one wants to make awkward small talk with the drivers. All the drivers ever do is moan and whinge!)

diddl · 09/06/2024 16:00

If there's 2 already in the back & he gestures to move up you tell him not to be so bloody daft!

FTPM1980 · 09/06/2024 16:04

In a mini cab you sit in the front.
I always used sot in front when was just me years ago...but now if only 1 or 2 of us sit in the back. It just seems safer....and that's why OH would sit in the front if he was with us.

tkwal · 09/06/2024 16:05

Just sit in the front !!

CoffeeLover90 · 09/06/2024 16:07

You could sit in the front and talk woman things with the driver? Like periods, menopause or under boob sweat? 🤣
In all seriousness, with DH doing little gentlemanly things already just say you and DD feel squashed on the journey, could he start sitting in the front? I think he will. I have faith in him.

Ifyoucouldreadmymindlove · 09/06/2024 16:07

Yeah, I’d demand a tall fat guy sat in the front too. It’s insane you’re all mashed into the back. 😂

We both do but we don't drink and drive.

So the poor DD sits between her two pissed parents 🤭

OP, how often does this actually happen?

Marblessolveeverything · 09/06/2024 16:27

Why don't you just ask before ye get in right me or you in the front? Simples, I don't understand your comment on his consent in this context it is worrying.

WonderingWanda · 09/06/2024 16:28

Next time just say "Does anyone else want the front seat before I claim it? because I am not sitting squished up like sardines as usual!"

SplendidUtterly · 09/06/2024 16:29

Is your DH scared of the taxi driver? This can't be comfortable with you all squished up in the back seat like that.

SeriaMau · 09/06/2024 16:36

Seems an utterly intractable situation to me. Do you have any really brainy friends, university professors perhaps, who might be able to think of a solution? Blowed if I can.
Oh, wait…

scotstars · 09/06/2024 16:44

I'd get in the front why is it a big deal?

SilkFloss · 09/06/2024 18:34

"I would sit in the front but I generally think he should"
Why? Does he need more room for his penis?

We both do but we don't drink and drive.

Well, I should hope not-that would be both illegal and really stupid.

I think the pp was suggesting that one of you could drive and NOT drink. Then you could sit where you wanted in your own car.

My story, I get to decide. You're being very aggressive about a very minor Sunday morning ponder.

Agreed, people are being so aggressive lol. I personally prefer not to sit up front with male drivers, just not comfortable and I don't see why that's "petty and peculiar" I agree he should sit in front

Yes of course we could but on rare occasions (2/3 year) we both like to have a drink together. Not pissed as the aforementioned overreacting PP likes to assume, but a couple of glasses of wine at a dinner party type situation.

On the whole, men tend to be taller with longer legs than women, and there isn't always all that much legroom in the back. Seems like common sense to me.

I’m the shortest at 5’7”
DD is 5’10
DH is 6’2”
DS is 6’4”
I generally get in the front, I will move the seat forward though.

DH is 2 inches taller than me but I have longer legs. But I'd probably sit in the back with DD cos that would be what made her more comfortable, in a strange car with a strange driver (she's only little).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/06/2024 18:53

Just say “I will sit in the front”. Don’t let him gesture you in. Also, I wouldn’t be letting him gesture you in so you end up sitting in the middle - mugs game!
