To think DH should sit in the front?

BusyCM · 09/06/2024 10:06

Now and again we get an Uber with DD for quite journey of about 25/30 mins. Every time DH squeezes in the back with me and DD. I should say we are both a bit bigger and DH is tall. Dd id a teenager. He opens the door for us and we get in and then he makes us budge up and we all sit squashed in whilst the front passenger seat is empty.

Is this weird? He thinks you don't sit in the front seat, I think he should.

I would sit in the front but I generally think he should and secondly he gestures for me to get in first and then gets in after. It would be silly for me to get back out and walk around to the front seat.

What do you think?

Do you need a chaperone to leave the house as well?

BusyCM · 09/06/2024 10:31

Haha clearly it's the trivial nature of my thread that's bothering @discountsandoffers

Dh (and dd) are still in bed. I'm bored and pondering the fact that we all squashed in the taxi last night. No argument, no squabbling, no anything that you all like to pretend is happening.

I mean, the trivial nature of this thread has obviously got you interested enough to post serveal times!

Yes of course! He takes me everywhere, I do nothing without him, or at least without his consent.

OP, jump in the front next time and have a laugh with the driver and get him to talk about himself. Guaranteed after that, DH will want to go in the front.

Could you please expand on the nuances? I'm interested

To be fair to the OP, this thread is no more trivial than dozens of others on MN involving a lack of communication

Next time just ask "who's sitting in the front today" before it arrives.

I know, but piles ons are a sport for some.

CrapBucket · 09/06/2024 10:34

Someone should sit in the front, I don’t think it technically matters whether or not they have a penis. If it does matter then I’ve been doing Uber all wrong.

BusyCM · 09/06/2024 10:34

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/06/2024 10:29

I think you're being a bit harsh on the OP. She wants to sit in spacious comfort in the back with her DD so her DH should sit in the front and talk about football/sit in awkward silence with the driver. She doesn't want to sit next to a strange bloke for 25 minutes while her DH could do that instead. I hear you, OP.

Exactly this!

Don’t know. They just do. One of the main reasons to have one, to sit in the front awkwardly with the driver so you don’t have to. See also bins, heavy gardening, most DIY.
Obvs if no man present, others can sit in the front, do the bins, do DIY. But the default is a man.
Obvs this is just in my little world and experience. Other worlds and experiences are equally valid!

Seriously??? So I guess the majority of chores are yours ..beds, cooking, shopping etc????

crumblingschools · 09/06/2024 10:39

@BusyCM what if the driver is a woman?

Some people on this thread appear to live in the 1950s

That's quite often how it works, yes. Why so surprised?
That's how it works in our house, apart from DH doing most of the cooking.

Jc2001 · 09/06/2024 10:45

You think he should sit in the front?

Is that because he's made of snips and snails and puppy dogs' tails?

MonsteraMama · 09/06/2024 10:46

Wild idea I know, but have you considered just talking to your husband?

"Dearest, all sitting squashed in the back of the cab is not comfortable, I'm going to sit in the front/can you please sit in the front".

And... Problem solved?

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/06/2024 10:48

There really is no nuance to this at all, it's about putting your arse into a seat for a short drive. Next time you order an Uber, at the point where you order it say to your husband, 'I'm going to ride in the front today, we're running low on space when we all sit together in the back'. Then when the car arrives, open the front door and sit in the seat.

That's it. Simple.

Shortfatsuit · 09/06/2024 10:48

I genuinely don't understand why you don't just sit in the front, OP. Such an odd thread!

Oh shit. Me and DH have been doing it all wrong.

The person who is at home on Thursday night puts out the bin, the one nearest the passenger seat door sits in the front, I do the gardening as he would happily let it grow to jungle length to avoid having to use the mower, I also earn the bigger salary and do the house DIY. He cooks and cleans more than I do.

Do we need to be sent back for recalibration to 1950s stereotypical gendered roles?

????? your world is from about 60 years ago then - why would DIY be male? or bins?

cannonballz · 09/06/2024 10:54

most taxis don't allow you to sit in the front - some ubers might do, but many don't

In about 20 years of regularly using taxis I have never encountered one who had an issue with us using the front passenger seat.

Just talk to him and take it in turns to sit in the front. He obviously doesn’t want to sit in the front either, so either sit squashed in the back or have lots of room in the front. I imagine it’s not a long taxi ride, surely you can entertain yourself for 30mins or so? Read a book, read the news, have a snooze!

mrswhiplington · 09/06/2024 10:20

I think we have the same DH.😄 Last time we got a taxi the driver said to DH that he had never had a passenger sit in the front before.

He can't have been driving a taxi for very long if he'd never yet had a fare with 3 or 4 passengers!

blacksax · 09/06/2024 10:59

FourEyesGood · 09/06/2024 10:15

Why?

On the whole, men tend to be taller with longer legs than women, and there isn't always all that much legroom in the back. Seems like common sense to me.
