Now. I don’t dislike or have any hate for the woman at all. She is very pretty, talented and it sounds like she is a good person. Not my taste in music, but some of her songs sound good.

but omg. People seem to be bloody obsessed with the lady. £300 a ticket to the Edinburgh show. People queuing from 5am to get near the front.

as a guide leader in 2010 or thereabouts I remember some 12 year old girls declaring their love for her. But it seems like lots of adults seem to love her too!

We paid 2k for our kids tickets and it was worth it !

Justrelax · 08/06/2024 12:41

Ah she's smashing it. Whatever you think - she's a massive success and all power to her. I like the way she conducts herself and I think lots of her songs are pretty cool. Not going to her concert but the people who are are going to have loads of fun. I love happiness and anything that brings people joy in this world.

Could the people debating the existence of God maybe create their own thread to do so? It’s very rude to the OP.

I just don’t agree that her songs are pedestrian- the bridge for August is beautiful, Marjorie is so touching.
Maybe if you only know Shake It Off and ME!, but you can’t deny she’s a talented songwriter.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 08/06/2024 13:28

I never saw any threads like this about the Harry Styles tour which was far more populated with middle aged women. Ditto any generic boy band tour for that matter.

My dd has loved her since she was small. I don’t necessarily like all of her music but she has released some great songs. TS is a young woman who has become hugely successful as a result of her own hard work and determination and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, even if it may be unpopular. Plus there’s no denying she knows her audience. She’s a great role model for a teenage girl and I’m looking forward to seeing her next week with my dd.

@OverNexus why ? It is maybe one in a lifetime opportunity and my husband wanted to treat our girls ! They were right at the front and loved every seconds of it !

2000 quid I'm speechless. You obvioulsy have money to spare or I hope so.

How many of these threads have we had now? 😅

You know you are under no obligation to comment on them, don't you?
Or even read them.

nupnup · 08/06/2024 14:44

I agree. But it's the same for everything. People like different things.
I think she's a fantastic song writer but personally I think she has an incredibly boring mediocre voice.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 14:56

AngeloMysterioso · 08/06/2024 12:11

Fine not to like her. What gets tiresome is a new thread being started every damn week by someone feeling compelled to declare they don’t like her. As though it makes them special somehow.

As for Espresso… well written? Hmm.

Too bad your ex don't do it for ya
Walked in and dream came trued it for ya
Soft skin and I perfumed it for ya
I know I Mountain Dew it for ya
That morning coffee, brewed it for ya
One touch and I brand newed it for ya
Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh
Is it that sweet? I guess so
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me, espresso
Move it up, down, left, right, oh
Switch it up like Nintendo
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me, espresso

Depends where you set your bar I guess. Move it up down left right oh switch it up like Nintendo is not likely to go down in the annals of musical history as an example of lyrical brilliance in my opinion.

Sorry to clarify, when I meant well written. I didn't mean the lyrics, I meant the music.

They lyrics yeah are not shakespeare

I meant the musical notes 🎵 of espresso are very well written.

They chorus and verses of espresso, I think are written very well. It's a catchy song

TheaBrandt · 08/06/2024 15:07

Think you’d need a heart if stone to listen to Soon you’ll get better and dismiss her as bland mediocre and boring.

PassingStranger · 08/06/2024 16:08

Pathetic, just seen people saying they would die for her.

Get a life, she's a singer at the end of the day not a brain surgen or someone that carried out life saving operations.

tweedbankline · 08/06/2024 18:09

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 08/06/2024 12:14

I don't understand the idea that you can only be a fan of hers if you're a teenager. Is there an age cut-off where you have to stop being a fan of artists? Are there acceptable artists for each age bracket?

I liked Taylor Swift when I was 14, I like her now and I'm nearly 30. Can someone please let me know the acceptable artists to enjoy in my 30s, so I don't commit a social faux pas and continue being a Taylor Swift fan?

Like any good act there is no age cut off ( I had a grand time last night )

The age thing is just another way people try to dismiss what she does

Pathetic people with pathetic lives and nothing better to do with their time than advertise their hate for a successful young woman . Misogyny at its finest

VivX · 08/06/2024 19:29

TS writes (or co-writes) her own material, she sings live. She's an incredibly savvy business woman and marketeer

I don't really get why she attracts as much negatively. Surely, you would just avoid her if you didn't like her music.

LostGhost · 08/06/2024 20:59

I think alot of the hype (and hate) comes because no one else remotely comes close to what she's doing.

Name me another artist/band that's released 5 original albums since 2019. Name another artist who is up there night after night for almost 3 and a half hours.

Also she has pretty arguably changed the music industry with her re-recording project. Yes other artists have re-recorded a few of their songs here or there say for an anniversary song but very very few have gone and recorded their entire back catalogue just to own the music. Since 2021 she's released 4/6 of her rerecords, something which is arguably harder than her new music (new music she can tinker around and play with the sounds but the rerecords bar a few lyrical changes or production changes for the most part sound the same, it's not easy to get the entire musical composition the same and the vocals ect)

Since that rerecord project record labels are now changing contracts of other artists so they can't rerecord for 10-15 years+. Also I don't think many people could re-put out a 10 year old album with the only real addition/changes being 5 vault tracks and OUTSELL the original album (which had an opening week of 1.2 million in the first place)

Basically the hype is there because no one else has released essentially 9 albums in 5 years (10 albums worth acknowledging that Tortured Poets was a double album). And she writes all her own music so she has that going for her too as well.

I find it pretty interesting! Her music and persona never captured me and it sort of passed me by that she had become such a massive cultural phenomenon - the BBC pointed out her 2018 UK tour was far from a sell out for example. In the last couple of weeks I've got really analytical over her career and music to try and make sense of it.
She doesn't have the type of musical virtuosity of say Beyonce or the stylistic impact of someone like Rihanna whose music I think massively influenced overall trends. I'm not a particular fan of these artists either but I can't avoid seeing what it's about. When you ask people why Taylor Swift, they often reference her storytelling and lyrics so that's part of it. It seems more like TS is the blank canvas people project themselves onto, plus an effective marketing machine.

She did co-write one of Rihanna’s songs (and has vocals on it).

bookworm14 · 08/06/2024 12:37

She’s popular with a lot of girls and women because she writes catchy pop songs that speak to universal experiences like getting your heart broken. I don’t think it needs to be any more complicated than that?

Exactly, as well as heartbreak she also writes about miscarriage, bereavement, illness, having to be strong enough to get stuff done whilst going through something like those, the importance of preserving childhood innocence, the end of a marriage that had good times in it, the fear of being in your 30s with no sign of a suitable romantic partner, misogyny etc she writes a lot of relatable music for women (I only know this from listening to more of her music over the last year, a year ago all I knew were Shake it Off and I knew you were trouble both of which are a good bop but not exactly deep).

kikisparks · 08/06/2024 21:33

She has also written songs on varied themes from the Trump election and Daphne du Maurier’s book Rebecca so she’s not exactly one note. Fine not to like her but it’s surely not too hard to see why others might.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 21:49

I think the melodies of her songs are just very boring and bland

girlfriend44 · 08/06/2024 21:50

If your a good singer you just stand there and sing. You don't need to dress sexily or prance around the stage.
Would ppl still go if she stood still and wore jeans and a jumper.
Think Catherine jenkins, Barbara Streisand, they don't need to do that?

Misogyny central. Barbara Streisand didn’t do that because she didn’t feel sexy https://bestlifeonline.com/barbra-streisand-dresses-sexy-news/ but as she says now 'Why can't women be accomplished and attractive, strong and sensitive, intelligent and sensual?'"

Most pop stars dance these days and wear different outfits, it’s all part of the fun and theatre of it.

From the musical “Something Rotten”

“It's called a dance break
Apparently this happens in musicals as well
People on stage just burst into spontaneous dance”

“Why? Does it advance the plot?”

“No”

“Advance character?”

“Not necessarily”

“Then why do it?”

“Because it's entertaining!”

I think Taylor sums up this whole thread herself in her Woman of the Decade speech in 2019.
So much misogyny and she is absolutely spot on.

Er, yeah, they do. Have you seen The Long Pond Sessions?

XenoBitch · 09/06/2024 00:54

YABU, and I have no clue about stuff like this.

But I do know Taylor Swift has reached superstar status. She is going to be rich for the rest of her life.

The fuss is that people love and appreciate her, so are paying crazy dollar to see her. So what?

Never underestimate the impact of seeing someone you are a huge fan of.
