Now. I don’t dislike or have any hate for the woman at all. She is very pretty, talented and it sounds like she is a good person. Not my taste in music, but some of her songs sound good.

but omg. People seem to be bloody obsessed with the lady. £300 a ticket to the Edinburgh show. People queuing from 5am to get near the front.

as a guide leader in 2010 or thereabouts I remember some 12 year old girls declaring their love for her. But it seems like lots of adults seem to love her too!

She appeals to young kids.

I don't think her music is very great to be honest

LlynTegid · 08/06/2024 11:13

@AngeloMysterioso well put.

Not someone whose music I listen to, each to their own. A difference between not to my taste and offensive or just awful. Some people listen to the bad karaoke that is Atomic Kitten or Westlife.

pinkhousesarebest · 08/06/2024 11:18

As a mother of a confirmed Swifty, I have listened to her music for at least a decade in a sort of passive way. But nothing could have prepared me for her concert last Monday. And there were all ages, men and women. The most extraordinary thing - I will never forget it.
If you really want to understand, go to a concert. If you just want to sneer because you estime your musical taste to be so much superior to ours , why not just jog on?

God must be happy with the way in which the world is going. If he wasn't he would send a massive flood like he did before. God's probably a Swiftie.

Edited

Well he wouldn't send a flood because he made a promise that wouldn't happen again. Remember that when you see that beautiful rainbow in the sky not the fake man made one that believes in today.

I’m just gonna go ahead and see which of my Taylor Swift Bashing Thread Bingo boxes get ticked…

Bland/boring/talentless/average/dull

Songs all sound the same

Only writes about boyfriends

Writes songs for kids/teenagers

all her fans are kids/teenagers

”She’s no (insert name of someone who was big between 1960-1990)”

Comparison with The Beatles/Queen/Madonna/

Comparison with Adele/Beyoncé/some other big voiced belter

Nobody will be singing her songs in X years’ time

How dare she own a private jet

Ugh Taylor Swift fans are so defensive/take criticism of her so personally

Never heard of her

Never heard any of her songs

Her tickets are extortionate

FOJN · 08/06/2024 11:31

I don't get the extent of her popularity either but I'm not trying to understand it or demanding fans explain it to me.

People like what they like.

I do think she's a great role model for young girls and I think she deals really well with her haters.

OverNexus · 08/06/2024 11:31

I admire the way she bilks the over invested to become the richest star ever and persuades these devotees to sepnd 45 quid on a t-shirt that probably cost a couple of quid to make. But what is tragic is the grass roots venues and many festivals are dying with the cost of living crisis, rising rents and these stars fly in hoover up huge amounts of money and then fly out again without ever giving anything back. A 5% ticket tax has been proposed to help these venues survive. She is not your friend just a very clever beautiful and talented woman who fleeces you with a smile and a song.

Well he was also a Nazi as well as he created Hitler !!

I adore Taylor but my heart slightly breaks for the lovely talented young women singers who write their own stuff but can barely make a living and play for tiny venues. Dh and I go along to support and because they are genuinely so good. Would be nice if the wealth and success could be shared out! But that’s not Taylor’s fault.

CandiedPrincess · 08/06/2024 11:42

Loved her since 2007, love her now.

You don't have to understand the hype, you don't even have to think about it. You can just merrily go about your day.

That is called a difference of musical opinion.

I don't think she's rubbish. She can write lyrics.

I just think that her music is very bland.

She had sabrina carpenter as her supporting act recently.

I was listening to sabrinas song "espresso" and I thought it was more interesting and well written than some of Taylors songs

anyoneanyoneanyone · 08/06/2024 11:43

yawn

PassingStranger · 08/06/2024 11:44

Laughing all the way to the bank, like most of them.
It's never really just about the singing it's about the image and other things.
Look at Spice girls, crap singing, but marketed well.
The idea of five girls each with Spice names was more the attraction and the girl power thing.
There are top opera singer in Germany singing now, great voices but won't ear nearly as much as people like TS, Harry Styles etc.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 11:44

A good thing about Taylor Swift, is that she has never gotten into any scandal. Or been in the news for hurting anyone else

Which is good these days

She might be secretly evil but just very good at hiding it. At least her boyfeinds know when it's over she gets a few more songs about the pain and gets her revenge on stage and monetises the heartache.

TeenLifeMum · 08/06/2024 11:58

I liked her music when I was younger, at 42 I find her music relatable and can enjoy it with my teenage dc. Some of her songs have got me through hard times (Pink add Kelly Clarkson too). She’s overcome bullies, and come back stronger, showing true resilience and strength which I think is a great message for my daughters.

In short, she’s a great role model and I enjoy her music. Her concerts bring people together and radiate kindness and happiness overcoming all. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?

We’re going to her concert and the tickets were £68 each. I paid more to see Beyoncé 8 years ago.

Not saying everyone has to like her but she’s a successful song writer, musician, singer, performer and business woman so I’m not sure why you’re confused to be honest.

Chocolatelover13 · 08/06/2024 12:07

Nothing against her as don’t obviously know her. Her music isn’t my thing but clearly she’s popular but the social media mania for tickets and merchandise in Scotland is bonkers. I will be glad come Monday and it’s over! It was the ame when Beyoncé was in town!

Fine not to like her. What gets tiresome is a new thread being started every damn week by someone feeling compelled to declare they don’t like her. As though it makes them special somehow.

As for Espresso… well written? Hmm.

Too bad your ex don't do it for ya
Walked in and dream came trued it for ya
Soft skin and I perfumed it for ya
I know I Mountain Dew it for ya
That morning coffee, brewed it for ya
One touch and I brand newed it for ya
Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh
Is it that sweet? I guess so
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me, espresso
Move it up, down, left, right, oh
Switch it up like Nintendo
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me, espresso

Depends where you set your bar I guess. Move it up down left right oh switch it up like Nintendo is not likely to go down in the annals of musical history as an example of lyrical brilliance in my opinion.

I don't understand the idea that you can only be a fan of hers if you're a teenager. Is there an age cut-off where you have to stop being a fan of artists? Are there acceptable artists for each age bracket?

I liked Taylor Swift when I was 14, I like her now and I'm nearly 30. Can someone please let me know the acceptable artists to enjoy in my 30s, so I don't commit a social faux pas and continue being a Taylor Swift fan?

Probably 33 you have 3 years left - enjoy them while they last !

Scottishdreams1991 · 08/06/2024 12:15

I stay very very local to where she is playing
Not a fan of her music and normally i like to moan about the noise and mess left behind but the buzz was pretty amazing last night. No one can deny the effort she has

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/06/2024 12:16

Is this the 5 millionth same thread? so bloody what if YOU don't get it

theaL · 08/06/2024 12:25

I have to say I don't understand it either. Like she's good, her songs are pleasant etc, but i don't get the hype and I wonder what I'm missing,
Surely someone like Demi lovato is better??

bookworm14 · 08/06/2024 12:37

She’s popular with a lot of girls and women because she writes catchy pop songs that speak to universal experiences like getting your heart broken. I don’t think it needs to be any more complicated than that?
