Axkid car seat and not fitting

DreamyNavyMentor · 04/06/2024 20:08

I purchased an Axkid car seat from a retailer as they had a free seat cover. Turns out the seat cover won't fit the car as the seat doesn't fit correctly in it and my babys head is slumping forward when asleep.

The Axkid Move Kid is from 60cm and baby is 70cm and upper weight centile, so should fit him. The insert is removed at 110cm.

Surely it's not normal for the baby to not be able to have their head resting on the back on the baby seat as their natural position and, marks on legs. There is a wedge that keeps the car seat reclined but my car seats are quite upright.

Aibu in thinking this car seat isn't fit for purpose if the head is slumping forward? It's like the head rest is too large.

Was it an independent retailer or a big online one? If independent go back to them and ask them to fit it for you. They all have axkidd training. But in short, the leg marks are normal (like when you wear socks) and this seat is known for causing head flop. The minikid or britax maxway plus are much better for not causing headflop. Also hard to see in the pics but are the straps coming out below his shoulders? He looks like he might still be too small.

Mairzydotes · 04/06/2024 21:24

How old is baby?

I'm sure the move is recommended for older babies/ toddlers who are outgrowing their infant seat.

There are only a few retailers that stock it and I bought this one online from Scotland, I'm in the Midlands

It's 61cm min. He's outgrown his baby seat as it only goes up to 75cm and he's 60cm.

Sorry he's 70cm and as per post upper centile.

What do you mean coming out below the shoulders?

I thought this model was released this year? The names of the models are so confusing.

@DreamyNavyMentor Springadorable means where are the shoulder straps
coming through the seat back in comparison to little one? Above, below or in line with his shoulders?
It’s difficult to see from the photos.

To begin with I would say baby is too little for this seat. DS is in this and he didn't move into it until he was 3 at which age 'head flop' isn't an issue.

The seat is very upright for this age group although there is a way to recline it more so is it on the biggest recline setting?

I always always recommend getting children fitted when making purchases of extended rear facing seats. You have a fantastic seat just potentially not for the size of your baby.

Out of interest what was your baby seat?

Personally I would contact the retailer you purchased from as independents are normally really happy to talk through and send pictures. There is a great place in Milton Keynes which do fittings which is more midlands way!

As per the first post the seat is reclined with the wedge and my car seats are upright.

At age three than he wouldn't be using the insert as I'm sure he's 110cm by then?

Maxicosy. It's 75cm.

I will contact them but the showroom lady told me to take out the insert so I don't trust them.

I think baby is too small for this seat. Have you maxed out the infant carrier? Thats the safest as long as they fit. Both mine are in Axkid Minikids now but my youngest was in the infant carrier until over 75cm

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/06/2024 23:32

Head slumping forward if sleeping is fine in a properly fitted car seat though.

Yeah difficult to tell as he was wearing dungarees and a dark top. The straps seem to start quite low down, is that correct?

The Cariad Babi Midlands Car Seat Centre in Derby do car seat fitting checks for £10 - you can book a slot on the website and there's a car park literally across the road. They're very helpful and sell axkid seats so should be extra familiar with the brand.

Edited to clarify - you don't need to buy anything from them. They check the fit of your existing seat in your car

I can get a few more weeks from the baby carrier but I'm measuring him at 70 and the carrier lasts till 75. All inserts removed and he looks too small for baby carrier

I actually don't know why I wrote Midlands because I'm Manchester. I've got a new phone.

I'm sorry DreamyNavyMentor if I sounded shirty in my response. I was very rude sounding. Was just trying to be short in my response but ended up being short. Im overstimulated tonight and this car seat isn't helping (oh as well as a buckle on the car that's I correct(.

It can happen if babies have long legs and a shorter torso. It is a great seat and with some tweaks or waiting a little bit longer for him to grow he's going to be super safe. As above, contact the seller and send photos of the fit (they'll want to see the seat tethered in the car as well as him in it) to see what can be adjusted. For reference, even babies on higher centiles are normally around nine months before they get a good fit in this seat.

DreamyNavyMentor · 04/06/2024 23:53

Here we go, from the showroom and sent to axkid

His torso is big and short legs imo.

Found another photo.

I really want this car seat!

Ok, he's too small if the headrest is on the lowest setting. That's all that's happening. The strap is coming out above his shoulder and it needs to be slightly below or in line with it.

Springadorable · 04/06/2024 23:58

Top line is where the strap is coming out and bottom is where you need it to
