Axkid car seat and not fitting

DreamyNavyMentor · 04/06/2024 20:08

I purchased an Axkid car seat from a retailer as they had a free seat cover. Turns out the seat cover won't fit the car as the seat doesn't fit correctly in it and my babys head is slumping forward when asleep.

The Axkid Move Kid is from 60cm and baby is 70cm and upper weight centile, so should fit him. The insert is removed at 110cm.

Surely it's not normal for the baby to not be able to have their head resting on the back on the baby seat as their natural position and, marks on legs. There is a wedge that keeps the car seat reclined but my car seats are quite upright.

Aibu in thinking this car seat isn't fit for purpose if the head is slumping forward? It's like the head rest is too large.

Yes because they want to sell you a seat.

Its not suitable for a 6 month old baby and he's too small for it.

Springadorable · 05/06/2024 00:31

He's too little, how annoying. But on the plus side you can get a couple more months out of your carrier and then he'll fit this seat much better by the time he's nine or ten months. He'll be stronger and less squishy which will massively help too. I disagree with @Pin0cchio about ERF seats only being good for two year olds and up, but he is definitely too small at the moment. With his carrier, put him in and then pull him right down so that his nappy is squashed against the crotch piece. This still give him the maximum amount of use for it.

The axkid website and multiple others have it as 9 months plus. If you got guidance from a store, you’ve definitely a case to return it.

Ps op it is not solely about size. Age also matters as it affects muscles & relative size of head vs body.

Those very upright style seats aren't suitable for such a young baby even if they appear to be of a length to fit.

Your baby probably needs to stay in a baby style group 0 or 1 car seat, just a larger one than the one you have.

Thanks. That explains it

@DreamyNavyMentor Definitely have a fettle with your infant carrier, most of the uk ones are designed to last until 15 months.
My long 7 month old still has a lot of room in his, but only if you get him in the right position. Otherwise he looks too tall for it!

Where did you see that
? https://axkid.com/uk/product/movekid/ states months as plus or minus 7 months. Am I looking at it right?

Don't get me started on the confusing zero to seven years age bracket

Did you tell them you needed a seat for a 6 month old baby?

Its really really unusual to outgrow an infant carrier by 6 months, usually only happens if you bought one of the very tiny newborn seats and even then its rare. My DC was very tall and stayed in a maxi cosi group 0 until just over a year before moving into a group 1 rear facing seat.

Spareincoming · 05/06/2024 00:39

@DreamyNavyMentor apologies, it’s 6-9 months which is frankly a poor statement on their part.
the 0-7 size rarely are really 0-7!

DreamyNavyMentor · 05/06/2024 00:40

He's dead to the world and this is him in current carrier.

He's got a few more weeks out of it but I don't want to have to get another carrier to see him before the Auxkid.... Because although it's rear facing I don't think babies rear face for that long period of time (35kg).

Trying to get me scales to power up

Yes. I told them weight and height. Their website is confusing so I called them.

This is states 75cm cm and he's 70ish (Its not hugely accurate to measure the length). I've put up a picture

I don't think you'll need an extra seat - just give him a good tug down to get his nappy as close to the crotch strap as possible and he'll be fine for a while longer

Spareincoming · 05/06/2024 00:43

@DreamyNavyMentor further down their website it says 7 months onwards.

As for rear facing, my Dc have all rear faced until 6 years old. Quite heavy!

Can you take the hood of the infant carrier right back so we can see the top of the shell? And does it have a moving head rest?

Pin0cchio · 05/06/2024 00:43

He's got plenty of room in the carrier? It looks like the back if the shell is at least 2 inches up beyond his head.

You don't need another infant carrier - you either need to keep him in the one you have another 3 or so months, or buy a bigger group 1 toddler seat to last until he's older and a more suitable size and age for the axkid.

Car seats have become extremely expensive, manufacturers try to offer a seat they want to convince you covers all age ranges but they tend to be not very good for under 1s.

He just looks q little too wide but if you are all saying it's a good fit?

The measurements are a guide - it varies hugely based on leg and torso size. As a pp said, position him right down in the seat. At this age a chunk of his growth will be in his legs getting longer, he should fit that seat quite a while yet.

Those parents who don't rear face have been chewing my ear..... Hence why I thought I would go direct to Auxkid

He looks good - you want him snug. Don't want space to rattle about!

Honestly he's fine! They are supposed to fit snugly in the seat.

Those seats fit lots of babies until quite a lot bigger than him.

Do their torsos grow before legs? As I'm finding legs are short ATM but he's got a wide torso and looks well built.
