To still be really sad and angry about Brexit

It really reduced the opportunities in my future and has achieved absolutely nothing of benefit for anyone else (besides disaster capitalists who made a mint off the financial manipulation effect). We haven't even avoided those stupid fecking tethers on the bottle lids!

When the extra immigration checks come in in October it's going to make every holiday a tiny bit upsetting.

And the new government won't even try to fix it.

Don't get me wrong I'm not one of those idealists singing ode to joy before breakfast but on a personal level it bloody sucks and seems likely it always will.

I don't recognise the tories as Far Right. In fact, they are more Centre Right in their present configuration.
As for UKIP - what is their political importance in the UK? Negligible.

An interesting article on the appeal of Farage

Maybe they should offer their citizens a referendum on EU membership as there is obviously discord and surprisingly this includes their young people.

Sausagenbacon · 10/06/2024 08:07

Essentially, of course, this vote is meaningless, as the EP has no power. But, as there are no elections for the Commission, which DOES have all the power, this is a useful litmus test.

FinanceLPlates · 10/06/2024 08:33

I find this - dare I say - Schadenfreude at the resurgence of the far right quite sickening.
lt’s worrying for all of humanity.

amyboo · 10/06/2024 08:38

@Sausagenbacon How is it that the EP has no power exactly? The EP and the Council together vote on almost all EU law. The Commission proposes legislation but doesn't vote. So, I'm not sure why you think the EP vote doesn't matter....

Sausagenbacon · 10/06/2024 08:44

If you don't get to choose what you vote on it doesn't seem very democratic, to me, anyway.

JazbayGrapes · 10/06/2024 09:17

European here. As much as i was initially mad, I'm looking at things in my home country and its not optimistic. EU is going down the pan big time.

Aladdinzane · 10/06/2024 09:22

@Sausagenbacon

The UK parliament doesn't get to choose what it has a vote on.

Sausagenbacon · 10/06/2024 09:23

good point
