Leaving pegs on washing line?

ThisQuirkyPeachHare · 03/06/2024 12:03

I've always left my pegs on the washing line... All year round.
I saw a peg bag in the shop and now I'm wondering... Should I bring my pegs in each day with the washing? AIBU to leave them out all the time?🤣
Do you bring yours in? Why? 🤷‍♀️🤣

I’ve always brought mine in…they get rusty and dirty and covered in spiders webs if I leave them out..

Oldandcold · 03/06/2024 12:06

I always bring them in they don't weather well.

Cuppachuchu · 03/06/2024 12:06

I bring mine in as spiders set up home in them if I don't. 🕷️
I have a peg bag with a long strap and sling it on cross body, nice quick and easy.

DanielGault · 03/06/2024 12:07

We always left them out. But they do get rusty!

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 03/06/2024 12:07

I bring them in and hang the bag on a coat peg. Spiders and other things might live in there otherwise and they tend to go brittle if left outside and the spring goes rusty so they break.

DG1749 · 03/06/2024 12:08

I bring mine in but they're wooden so discolour to mouldy grey if left outside. I never bring in or cover the rotary washing line though; even in the winter.

I used to live in a shared house by the sea and the pegs there were left out and the metal bits went rusty.

murasaki · 03/06/2024 12:09

I have metal ones amd they live on the line. Life is too short to bring them in. My mum has a bag for her wooden ones though.

twentysevendresses · 03/06/2024 12:10

If I leave mine out the whole line becomes one giant spiders web 🤦‍♀️

Puppiesmakemehappy · 03/06/2024 12:10

I like to live on the edge, I leave them on the line🤣

In fairness I’d end up dropping them, losing them, or using them to close bags of pasta if I brought them in

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2024 12:11

I bring them in because I collapse my line and put its cover on

Chely · 03/06/2024 12:13

We have retractable washing lines so pegs live in a bag in the house.

Winter2020 · 03/06/2024 12:14

We use metal pegs like this and they don't go rusty left out.
The wooden ones have gone manky and the plastic ones brittle.

Leaving pegs on washing line?
MrsMonzo · 03/06/2024 12:15

I keep ours in a plastic box, otherwise they go brittle and snap and I get hit in the eye with an angry peg

SallyWD · 03/06/2024 12:18

Most pegs have a bit of metal in them and I worry they'll get rusty in our damp climate. I just bring them in so they last longer.

Sago1 · 03/06/2024 12:18

Leaving them out looks messy, they get dirty and rust.
I have a shoulder bag for mine so it’s easy to peg put and put them back in the bag.

MonsteraMama · 03/06/2024 12:20

I have a retractable washing line so I have to bring them in, but even before that I always had a peg bag.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 03/06/2024 12:21

I bought aluminium pegs like Winter2020 shows.

It's the other household members who also leave pegs out - plastic get brittle and ping off in my eyes and wooden ones went slimy and rusty.

I have been bought "normal" pegs since by extended family I just got rid of them and stick with the aluminium pegs - they also do aluminium socks dryers.

They cost a bit more initially but have lasted well - and saves me having to worry about getting them in and storing them so they don't disappear.

Lifelover16 · 03/06/2024 12:21

If I leave mine out they get dirty and leave marks on my clean washing when I next peg it out. Just do whatever works best for you.

Namechanges85437854 · 03/06/2024 12:22

I leave mine out, though I am aware that I 'should' be bringing them in, and they won't last as long. I just invest £2/year in a new pack of pegs to replace the casualties, and buy wooden ones to reduce my guilt at plastic waste.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 03/06/2024 12:25

Looks like some of mine might be stainless steel as well as aluminium.

But had no problems with either and they've been out for a few years - in fact neighbour thought it such a good idea they also got metal pegs.

RedRobyn2021 · 03/06/2024 12:26

They'll go brittle and break if you leave them out

Teamarugula · 03/06/2024 12:29

Mine are wooden so I don’t leave them out in case it rains and they rot. Also I have a retractable washing line that I put away when I’m not using it which I couldn’t do if there were pegs on it.

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2024 12:31

Also, if I didn't put my line away and covered the pigeons would just poo all over it

ThisQuirkyPeachHare · 03/06/2024 12:32

So many replies so quickly 😄
This year, I have noticed some of the pegs are brittle... But I've probably had them for years 🤷‍♀️ and there are cobwebs... But I've never noticed them on the clothes...
Might give bringing them in a go 🤷‍♀️ soon how long I can keep it up 😅
We have a whirly gig type line... I never fold it up and I don't even know where the cover is... Remembering to bring the washing in is something to celebrate on its own! 😜

It is common to leave your pegs out.
