Leaving pegs on washing line?

ThisQuirkyPeachHare · 03/06/2024 12:03

I've always left my pegs on the washing line... All year round.
I saw a peg bag in the shop and now I'm wondering... Should I bring my pegs in each day with the washing? AIBU to leave them out all the time?🤣
Do you bring yours in? Why? 🤷‍♀️🤣

I bring mine in and have a hook for the bag by the door but I only have a rotary dryer and that gets put down and it’s cover put on every night anyway . I only have washing out if the weather is excellent so it gets used from about now until August .

annabofana · 03/06/2024 12:34

I leave them out becuase im lazy. They do get ruined.

RaraRachael · 03/06/2024 12:40

Mine are plastic so wouldn't rust.

I have to take them off the line when I take stuff in so put them in a plastic box.
Otherwise I'd have to put them back on the line then take them off to puf new washing ouf if I left them on the line - what a faff!

SpringerFall · 03/06/2024 12:40

They annoy me when out as I have to remove them to hang the stuff so easier when unhanging to take them off then

FloralMonster · 03/06/2024 12:46

I always bring them in.

Left out pegs don’t last as long imo, rust/mould etc.
But the main reason is those little money spiders like to turn them into houses & I feel bad taking them away 🤣

I have a retractable washing line so I have to bring them in, but even before that I always had a peg bag.

Same here. I wouldn’t dream of leaving them out.

I’ve always brought mine in…they get rusty and dirty and covered in spiders webs if I leave them out..

According to some on here, it's not the spiders webs you need to worry about.

Knittedfairies2 · 03/06/2024 13:05

I don't even leave the washing line out, let alone the pegs...

It is common to leave your pegs out.

Do you mean lots of people do it, or it's... common?

dementedpixie · 03/06/2024 13:07

@ThisQuirkyPeachHare I have a peg bag but leave it hanging on the whirly after I put the pegs back in it

Catsmere · 03/06/2024 13:08

I leave mine out, because I hardly use the line. It's too small to get a load of washing on it (and my washing is only for me). I don't use a bag, either. The huntsman-in-the-bag incident my sister had put me off that idea for life.

lmjh · 03/06/2024 13:09

I put them in a peg bag and leave them out so I can play Indiana jones sticking my hand in

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/06/2024 13:10

I bring mine in because I collapse and cover my rotary drier after each use to give more space in the garden.

dementedpixie · 03/06/2024 13:10

I bought this set recently after my last bag disintegrated

Leaving pegs on washing line?
StarlightLady · 03/06/2024 13:16

You are not being unreasonable, your line, your clothes, your choice. There’s a “but” coming along here. You risk the pegs getting dirty in all elements and it transferring onto your smalls.

rainbowstardrops · 03/06/2024 13:20

Always put my pegs in my peg bag and bring them in. I even have different pegs for different items stored separately within my peg bag! Standard pegs for underwear, tea towels etc. Largeish ones that don't leave peg marks for things like jeans etc and nicer no mark pegs for T-shirts etc. I need to get out more don't I?! 🙈😉 I cover my rotary airer too.

Penguinfeet24 · 03/06/2024 13:21

I've always left mine out, I'm not that organised to bring them in lol! I take them all off and give them a wash before I use them again in the Spring after they've been out in winter.

Gottleogear · 03/06/2024 13:21

I've a rotary clothes line and always close it and put the cover on. Pegs are in a bag and hung on a hook in the cupboard.

I remember my Mum always cleaned the washing line before she hung out the laundry, as it did get dirty. No covers in those days!

SauvignonBlonk · 03/06/2024 13:26

I bring the pegs in, they live in a bag on the back of the kitchen door. Lots of my pegs belonged to my mum they’re at least 50 years old. (Living life on the edge as usual)

Pastryface · 03/06/2024 13:29

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2024 12:11

I bring them in because I collapse my line and put its cover on

Same here. If I leave my line up it gets filthy and I have to clean it every time before I use it.

Projectme · 03/06/2024 13:40

They get 'darked' on
Spiders will rub their willies all over them
Looks untidy
Go rusty

And the best one of all (tongue in cheek from mil): "well, she's no better than she ought to be" <sniff> (Her opinion of a woman who leaves pegs on the line...not sure if similar opinion if her son, my DH were to leave them out...)
🤣
I put mine in a peg basket and bring them indoors.

This

Clingfilm · 03/06/2024 13:44

Being them in, I cannot stand going to put something on the line e.g T-shirt and there's a peg right in the middle that's been left, gives me the rage. I like a blank canvas when I set to work to ensure maximum line to clothes ratio 😁

CountingCrones · 03/06/2024 13:46

I leave them on the line because it’s enough of a miracle that I remember to bring the washing in before the spiders rub their willies on it or it gets darked on.

However, my Great Auntie Nellie would have me written off as a slattern and a disgrace to the family for such lazy behaviour.

Then again, Nellie started boiling her Sunday lunch vegetables on a Thursday, as far as I could tell, so nuts to all that.

Bumblebeeinatree · 03/06/2024 13:47

I leave them on the line, but give them a wash in the spring when I start hanging things out again, also replace the worst ones each year they're pretty cheap.
