Leaving pegs on washing line?

I've always left my pegs on the washing line... All year round.
I saw a peg bag in the shop and now I'm wondering... Should I bring my pegs in each day with the washing? AIBU to leave them out all the time?🤣
Do you bring yours in? Why? 🤷‍♀️🤣

I bring mine in

Those that leave pegs on the line must have a big garden.

My washing line is right where the path is so if I didn't take it down I wouldn't be able to walk through the garden to the bins.

Small garden but washing pole and some mechanism that side and wheel high up side of the house with single line though - so it's always out but can be put very high up even with washing on so catches wind but means garden under is free space. Pegs are in center bit of the line not near mechanism.

DH and I both were really impressed with it when we looked at house to the bemusement of the young male estate agent as previous house washing line had hampered the use of the garden when in use- though did bring pegs in there access was back of the garage - so place to put them. All the houses with small gardens here seem to have this system.

Here access is though kitchen and there no place to put peg bag easily so easier to leave on line in center away from mechanism as line can't be taken down - need tall ladder to get rope though pully system so nightmare when rope does go - happened once so far.

Pegs in,used to be a cotton peg bag, eventually forgotten, and left in the rain.wooden ones left out leave marks on clothes.plastic becomes brittle, metal rusts. Now have a plastic container. Rotary airer, with cover. Anyone coming round and we're using the garden,it's removed to behind the shed, and there's a little flap that closes over the hole,so you wouldn't even know I was there. I have made the mistake.....once of folding it down without removing the pegs!!

I need to get a ground spike with a flap (didn't know about these!) Took me an hour, plus a hammer, a pair of pliers, a screwdriver and half a can of WD40 to get the stopper out of the washing line hole this year.

To get darked on?! 😱

Ksgbfan · 05/06/2024 14:10

KS, USA I bring mine in after each use. I have enough line and pegs to hang 3 loads out.

Like others I know the wood gets grody and the spring could rust.

I will have to look for the complete metals ones.

Isitchill · 05/06/2024 14:16

I never leave pegs on the line.

celticprincess · 05/06/2024 15:29

I want to bring them in but haven’t found a good leg bag. We used to have one that looked like a little dress on a hanger. So mine get left out. But they get manky. Wooden ones get wet. Cobwebs. Metal parts go rusty. Plastic ones seem to get brittle and just snap. So they probably do need coming in.

Idontneedanotherhero · 05/06/2024 16:15

I think I’ve entirely missed the point of peg bags as mine are in one and the peg bag hangs on the line…..

Sparrow7 · 05/06/2024 16:25

They'll get darked on.

LeftLegRightLeg · 05/06/2024 16:27

Leaving pegs out, you absolute animals 😆

Pinkcountrybumpkin · 05/06/2024 17:10

I leave mine out 24/7 but my mum always tells me off for it if she happens to be putting a load out for me :D

Willmafrockfit · 05/06/2024 18:53

i leave mine out, like a slattern

Imisssleep2 · 05/06/2024 19:16

Unreasonable seems a bit of a harsh term for something so trivial but I bring mine in to prevent getting dirty and rusty, they last longer that way. We have always had a peg bag

Mimimimi1234 · 05/06/2024 19:57

Spiders and dirt is why i bring pegs in

Willmafrockfit · 05/06/2024 20:18

my dm doesnt like that i leave them out, but it saves time to leave them out imo

RM2013 · 05/06/2024 20:20

I’ve always brought mine in but have a retractable line so I put it away after I’ve taken the washing in anyway

Elle2018 · 05/06/2024 21:18

Bring them in otherwise they go brittle and you’re buying new ones all the time

Hotnamehere · 05/06/2024 21:24

I leave mine on the line because I'm a lazy common chav.

ArcticBells · 05/06/2024 21:26

I always leave 2 on the line ready for a quick hang of a tea towel or bath towel, the rest live in a peg bag inside.

OneLoyalGreyFish · 05/06/2024 22:02

Urghhh no, how disgusting, all the muck that would accumulate on the pegs would then transfer to your clean washing. Same as the washing line - I can never understand why people don’t wipe the lines before pegging the washing on either! Just one look at the cloth afterwards proves there’s muck on it - bird poo etc and rain isn’t clean.

Natalie43 · 05/06/2024 22:52

I live in a tiny old house with limited storage. I have a zip up peg bag that I keep them in and it’s hung on the line with a carabiner clip. No need to worry about them going brittle or creepy crawlies x

JustMyView13 · 07/06/2024 07:01

Bring them in because I don’t want the mould or rust that would otherwise form, the transfer onto my clean washing. Also washing line is in a bag, and wipe the line at the start of summer to make sure it’s clean. Not from a germ perspective - specifically I don’t want to mark clean washing.

Willmafrockfit · 07/06/2024 07:57

i thought of this thread when yet another peg snapped while putting my washing on the line yesterday,! yes i do leave them on the whirlygig
