To ask you how far you'd go to stop a friend from frequently drink driving

He's in his early 60s, drives a van and is convinced that alcohol won't impair his judgement.

Today he was drinking several glasses of wine at his son's house before driving for an hour to return back. We live close by and I noticed the state he was in.
I really lost it today, he could have killed someone. I've messaged his son but I short of reporting him, what on earth can I do.?

I've sat down with him and made him read the RAC facts on drink driving, the met police facts on jail/licence removal etc.
He's nodding but deep down I know he won't really listen.
Any suggestions?

Report him.

I'm usually very much a mind my own business type of person but he could literally kill someone

GrazingSheep · 02/06/2024 22:33

Report him. It’s that simple.

3peassuit · 02/06/2024 22:33

Report him. I wouldn’t think twice before doing so.

TeaKitten · 02/06/2024 22:34

Obviously report him

EmeraldRoulette · 02/06/2024 22:35

Report him before he kills somebody.

Todaysthedayhey · 02/06/2024 22:35

Report. It’s the only way people like this MIGHT learn.

Nottherealslimshady · 02/06/2024 22:36

I would report him. What will ruin his life more. A driving fine/conviction for driving under the influence or killing someone?

Fourfurrymonsters · 02/06/2024 22:36

How are you going to feel when he injures or kills someone? Especially in a van ffs. Report him to the police as soon as you see him stepping into his van again with a drink in him. This is unconscionable.

Thevelvelletes · 02/06/2024 22:36

He deserves to be caught or someone take his keys off him.
Several glasses of wine he must be pissed.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 02/06/2024 22:37

Report him, every single time you know he's doing it. Every time he does it is a time he could kill someone.

They'll need to catch him actually in charge of the vehicle, it's no good calling and saying he's arrived home and was drunk. As soon as you know he's driving having had alcohol you need to call the police with his reg number and the route he's taking. Every single time.

If he's lucky they'll catch him and he'll lose his licence Inn time to stop him killing someone and ending up in prison.

Mitsky · 02/06/2024 22:37

He needs to be caught by the police.

He’s a 60 year old man, why are you walking him through RAC facts and the law? He knows what he’s doing is illegal and risks killing others but is choosing to do it anyway.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 02/06/2024 22:37

Another saying report him. Why on earth wouldn't you?

watchuswreckthemic · 02/06/2024 22:38

Report him. My grandad used to drink drive and was reported and banned. Think it was my dad actually who was 300 plus miles away who heard his intention again to drive back from the pub and did it,
It is the right thing to do.

TheFunSponge · 02/06/2024 22:38

I would report him!

AdoraBell · 02/06/2024 22:39

I would report him.

LadyWiddiothethird · 02/06/2024 22:39

I would report him without a seconds thought. So should you.

wherehaveallthegoodfolkgone · 02/06/2024 22:40

Yes, that's the only thing I can think of 😥
I know he'll end up killing someone or causing an accident one day.
So sad ..I'll have to give up a friendship. In every other way he's the most kindest person.

Bloody idiot.

Report him. Even when he isn't doing it you can make an anonymous intel report. Don't ignore this otherwise if he kills someone it's on you aswell.

Short of?
why short of? How could you not have immediately reported it as soon as he left!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 22:40

Report him.

RaininSummer · 02/06/2024 22:41

Please report him. He could kill and break a family forever. Very selfish man.

Thevelvelletes · 02/06/2024 22:43

The guys son could have stopped his dad driving in that state or the driver could just not drink n drive.

Circumferences · 02/06/2024 22:44

Unfortunately you need to wait until he's pissed and behind the wheel before the police or DVLA can actually do anything, which is a bit shit really.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 02/06/2024 22:45

I can’t believe you actually need to ask the question!

Asparename · 02/06/2024 22:45

Why aren’t you reporting him to the police?? As soon as you see him drink driving report him. Imagine how you will feel if he kills somebody knowing you could have reported him. Of course he’s not a nice man. He’s a selfish idiot.
