My potato ricer. Perfect smooth mashed potatoes every time.

Interested to read about the rotary cheese grater as I have one in my amazon basket at present.

A garlic crusher from temu that cost me about £2 . Game changer!

Is temu a reliable site, their stuff looks amazingly cheap I thought there must be a catch?

CrushingOnRubies · 02/06/2024 19:53

Ninja 15 in 1- barely ever use the normal oven. Only pizza but even then have found one which fits in it

Don't have to wait for it to heat it up or anything.

Shouldbedoing · 02/06/2024 19:54

TEMU use slave labour

Lifelikinotdothinki · 02/06/2024 19:56

Meat thermometer and hand blender. I use both frequently.

Our Sage bean-to-cup coffee machine. I go to bed at night looking forward to my morning coffee because its THAT good.

Me too. I love ours.

LMMuffet · 02/06/2024 20:19

Not sure if this strictly counts as a gadget but someone showed me that it’s much quicker and easier to cut pizza with kitchen scissors than a pizza slicer or a knife and I have never looked back.

Those with butter bells, do you find the butter falls in the water when you've used half of it?

I bought a cheap ish one recently and the butter doesn't stay put. Am I doing something wrong?

As the butter is soft it moulds to the container so doesn't fall out in my experience

That is exactly my list!

SecondStarOnTheRight · 02/06/2024 22:05

Second the rotary cheese grater!

But also as a leftie, the electric tin opener is a life changer as I can't use normal ones

You must've read my mind-I was just thinking this week if there was something you could buy to grate cheese for you! I eat A LOT of cheese and always hate grating it, have nicked the top of my thumb many a time. I thought there must be something you can buy, thank you OP!

There are finger protectors/hand guards for grating food; they have a fork-like device to hold the item in place, and above that is a large grip (usually made of plastic). They are especially useful for mandoline slicers where it is very important not to come too close to the blades.
They cost a few pounds and might save having to buy a new machine.

Additionally they are useful for people who, due to illness or other reasons, can't easily bend their fingers.

I love my Thermomix.

I bought it a couple of months ago and use it daily. At the weekend I made dough and topping for 6 pizzas for about £5. I use it for chopping, cooking, steaming, grinding, making dough, cooking rice...... pretty much everything..

It cost loads but I wouldn't be without it. I love the fact I can search to Cookidoo website and it gives me lots of options for meals.

GiveUsACoffee · 02/06/2024 22:12

A chilli cutter. I use it almost every day. Can't live without it

This saute pan can use on the hob and oven so only using one pan. These lasagne dishes as well. Can portion leftovers up and pop in the freezer.

Panasonic bread maker - would still be happily rustling up fresh bread twice a week if I wasn't already the size of a house
Sage bean to cup espresso machine - absolutely worth it
Rice cooker from Yum Asia - makes rice so easy, DS asked for one to take to uni so he could maintain his considerable carb intake 'without needing to like use a pan or whatever'

I bought an Instant Pot during the last energy panic-buying spree but didn't really get to grips with it: I thought I'd be turning out flavoursome pressure cooked casseroles and curries but everything tasted a bit bland and undercooked and it was so big it was like having R2D2 sitting in the kitchen. And then DH dropped the air frier lid, and someone broke the pressure cooker lid and that was that.

I've had a look at the Yum Asia rice cooker and it looks fab! Just wondering how long it takes to cook the rice?

My quopener! It's a jar opener that works if you can't use one hand. You just need to be able to steady it and then apply a tiny bit of force and it will open any jar! You don't need to be able to grip with either hand.

There are alternatives they require you to be able to grip with one hand and then twist with the other so don't work as well.

Oh dear! Just ‘impulse ordered’ the Quopener. I also only have one wing Duck and it looks like it might be just what I need!

Now looking at mini choppers as I’ve frightened myself silly with the price of a Thermomix and a Sage coffee machine!

ItsOnlyJustBegun · 03/06/2024 06:24

@Viewfrommyhouse - I was going to post something in the Property section on MN about Qettles.

Im doing a kitchen refurb and was taking a look at those. They seem cheaper (all things being relative) to others, and being a tea drinker, they appear to produce water that’s 100° and not 98 like its rivals. Never had a cup of tea that tasted good from a Quooker.

So I take it you’re happy 😃?

FiveShelties · 03/06/2024 06:41

I recently bought a Ninja AirFryer which I love, so quick and easy tto clean.

From reading this thread I have just bought the Sistema Rice Cooker and will try it out tonight.

Teamarugula · 03/06/2024 10:27

I’ve got a Kenwood chef stand mixer that I bought the food processor and blender attachments for and absolutely love it. The food processor has half a dozen odd different blades so grates, slices etc as well as chopping and its grating is so much better than using a normal grater for carrots and cucumber, it comes out so much less mushy. It’s also much more powerful than my old standalone blender and food processor (the latter of which’s motor I killed with a rather heavy veggie burger mix 😬). It’s a real workhorse. Obviously the stand mixer itself is great for kneading bread, mixing crumble topping, cake mixture etc. There are loads of other attachments you can get as well and all the bits go in the dishwasher.

I also second an Instant Pot - I use mine all the time to cook dried beans quickly and without pre-soaking, plus as a rice cooker and slow cooker. The Instant Pot and Kenwood Chef take up half my kitchen counter between them but so worth it!

On a smaller scale, I love my OXO Y peeler - having a decent peeler makes such a difference (likewise knives).

Anyotherdude · 03/06/2024 10:59

My Kitchen Aid stand mixer - never had a baking disaster since I started using it!

Mindyourownbusinessmadam · 03/06/2024 11:00

Salad spinner.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 03/06/2024 14:29

@GruntledGoblin it takes approx 45 mins depending on what sort of rice - sounds like a long time but you can set it off ages beforehand and it keeps hot for hours until you need it.
