Love my rotary cheese grater - always hated grating cheese but this is a game changer.

Meat thermometer.

What kitchen gadgets do you actually rate?

My rotary grater has also changed my life. It's an older metal one, and it's the only kitchen gadget I have. Oh I tell a lie, I have, and love, my strawberry huller!

LaWench · 02/06/2024 06:53

How could I forget my bean to cup coffee machine? I prefer it coffee shops. I don't drink much, only 1 a day but it feels luxurious to have a freshly ground flat white every morning.

DoYouSmokePaul · 02/06/2024 06:58

Another Thermomix fan here. I am so lazy and find cooking and meal planning so difficult (ADHD) but this means I can eat home cooked meals every day with very little faff. Got it on a 0% finance deal so we pay £30 a month which I more than make up for with the lack of food waste and not needing to resort to takeaways.

Recently got the Thermosensor add-on too, pings your phone when the food has reached temperature.

Mini chopper. Grates cheese, makes breadcrumbs, hummus, garlic ginger paste for curries, fresh coriander chutney

What brand if you don't mind me asking please.

Pan covers that stop them boiling over.
Little avocado masher

Free2roam · 02/06/2024 07:27

Loving this thread. I have recently got a Butter Bell instead of a butter dish so can leave the butter on the counter and it stays fresh and spreadable for weeks. Just replace the cold water each day in the reservoir.

FrenchMustard · 02/06/2024 08:04

A sage bean to cup coffee machine complete with steam wand, makes the most amazing coffee and so much nicer than what you get in the shops! Used several times a day, well worth the investment

Garlic rocker - I’d broken three garlic presses before I discovered this.

silicone pot lid that prevents water boiling over.

silicone spatulas - I don’t know what brand they are but they’re really good quality, all one piece so the top doesn’t pop off mid- job. One is sized for jars.

aerochino milk frother.

folding digital scales - takes up so little room in my drawer

I’m intrigued by the tape dispenser - my version is a roll of cheap masking tape that tears easily, and a sharpie. But it’s still a two handed job.

Mrsredlipstick · 02/06/2024 08:38

Tefal duo air fryer. I'm newly disabled and can't bend down for the oven. This has been a godsend.

Tomato knife, I use it for all veg. Goodgrips I think.

SoupDragon · 02/06/2024 09:06

YABU for shoving this in AIBU

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/06/2024 09:28

@Peoppy what brand is that onion chopper please?

Applesonthelawn · 02/06/2024 09:32

Thermomix. I know that opinions are divided on Mumsnet about Thermomix, and that there are cheaper equivalents on the market if you were planning to buy a new one, but I have used mine daily for the past 15 years, had it serviced once free of charge (they collect and return) and really wouldn't be without it.

FortunataTagnips · 02/06/2024 09:47

@Applesonthelawn What is it about the Thermomix that makes
it so amazing?

Mrblueskys · 02/06/2024 09:55

Lakeland Wrap Master (cling film dispenser)

dottiedodah · 02/06/2024 10:11

Slow Cooker for me ! So handy that Dinners sorted in the mornings.Leaving day free .Also cooks tough cuts of meat so well .

willWillSmithsmith · 02/06/2024 10:12

I couldn’t be without a, I think it might be called plumber’s pliers (or something like that). It can open the tightest bottle and jar tops and I’ve used it many times over the years. it’s probably the one thing I need over all the other things.

Rice cooker, I will never be without one now.

Air fryer, so handy to throw in sausages or fish fingers, oven chips, salmon, chicken fillets, gyozas etc.

I’m thinking of getting a portable electrical hob as I hate gas hobs with a passion (the cleaning of rather than the cooking).

I made one of these a few weeks ago as a friend has a pottery studio. I bloody love it. I might make another larger one though as we have to fill it every other day.

MyMotherWasANarcissist · 02/06/2024 11:30

My Thermomix - love it and it is so easy to use.
Potato ricer - complete game changer for lump-free mash
Funnels - various sizes, just so useful for decanting stuff
Egg slicer
Lastly, my chef’s pan by Circulon. I will cry when that dies as they don’t make them anymore.

Mookie81 · 02/06/2024 11:40

Mine are my kitchen tongs, I use them every time I cook. I have 2 pairs. Grin
Thanks to this bloody thread I've now bought the Sistema rice cooker and the lime squeezer!

DoYouSmokePaul · 02/06/2024 11:40

FortunataTagnips · 02/06/2024 09:47

@Applesonthelawn What is it about the Thermomix that makes
it so amazing?

It’s hard to explain how amazing it is! It has a little touch screen that gives you step by step instructions for a recipe, changes the mode from weighing scales to chopping to sauteing, steaming etc etc. Perfect results every time. All goes in the dishwasher.

You can make soups, dough, cakes, yoghurt, sauces, cocktails, hot chocolate, meat, stews, steamed fish, rice. It just does everything. And the way it links with your phone, shopping lists, etc. Just amazing.

OldTinHat · 02/06/2024 11:53

Egg boiler.

Fathomless · 02/06/2024 12:03

weegiemum · 01/06/2024 17:13

A vegetable chopping machine.

I'm disabled and my hands don't work very well so my dd2 bought this for me and I've only cut myself on it once! Great for onions, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes for soup, carrots, also is a grater and slicer but I mainly use the dicing fitting. It got me cooking again as I'd cut myself quite a lot and was a bit scared of knives!

ooh looking for something like this

FortunataTagnips · 02/06/2024 12:23

@DoYouSmokePaul Thank you for explaining. Would it be as useful if you wanted to cook freestyle rather than following their recipes?

SocksAndTheCity · 02/06/2024 12:33

I have that jar opener too @Moier , it's a gamechanger! The IKEA garlic press is amazing too.

My Sodastream is used multiple times a day and I would genuinely struggle without it. I also still have my original Breville maker which is still working fine after 30+ years to create sandwiches you can crack a tooth on 😁
