Things you're supposed to give a shit about, but you don't.

You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

Jeez - 'let them go extinct'
What an odd thing to say

But that’s what this thread is about, isn’t it? Confessing to things you should care about but don’t. And the poster saying ‘let them go extinct’ doesn’t mean it will happen.

Dogs.

I don’t get it. They smell, they’re needy and you have to pick their shit up. 20 years ago dogs didn’t bother me but the ‘fur baby’ phenomena has really got out of hand.

And no I don’t find it adorable when your ‘friendly’ whateverapoo (mongrel) bounds up to me and bounces around, it’s not cute, I have an overwhelming temptation to hoof it out the way. Don’t get me started on dogs in workplaces and cafes. If you can’t leave it at home you shouldn’t have a dog.

and yes all dogs smell.

People smell too Grin

Ducks don't, they're lovely. Give me a duck any day over a smelly human.

I'm only here for the Duck Giphys

Foxyaus · 01/06/2024 02:49

Since I turned 60, I no longer care about:
What other people think
Cooing over babies
Other people's dogs - I barely tolerate ours
Celebrity anything
Brand name anything
Anti ageing products
Colouring my hair
Watching the news
Politics- they are all as bad as each other
The royal family
The UN

But I do care about good quality chocolate
And my family, most of the time 🙃

Nails. I keep mine clean and neat by washing regularly and cleaning. I don’t understand at all why going to a nail parlour to have them gelled or faffed about with is in any way a grooming essential yet alone ‘attractive’

I am a researcher. I started an academic study about this. I had over 150 participants ( 90 female and 60 male). Majority of women thought that nail grooming was an important part of female attractiveness and defined this a regular (once a month or more) nail shaping and polishing. 0 % of men considered this as an important part of grooming. In fact we redesigned the study to see if men noticed this aspect of female grooming at all. We asked 279 men what they identified as attractive in a woman, using photos with manicured/un manicured women. Not one man noticed or cared what women’s nails looked like. None.

My nails are always cleaned and shaped but the idea that ‘manicured’ nails are attractive is totally constructed to gain customers. In RL men are not in the least interested or attracted to women who fuss about their nails.

You miss the point.

I don't do it for a man. Don't care what any man thinks.

I do it for me,

Your attitude and research stinks.

I've loved taking care of my nails since a young teen. It's called grooming.

itsalwaysthesame · 01/06/2024 02:53

Eeek I sound callous but I don't care about overseas charities (unless animal ones)

Food recycling (I recycle the other stuff)

Other people's kids, pets, holidays or house prices

The fact my kids do not have any special hobbies or clubs they go to,

What other people are wearing for nights out / Christmas / weddings etc

Flushing loo paper down the loo when in certain countries asking to use the bin

I don't care about sanctimonious pearl clutching on an anonymous forum.

Agreed. People are very funny when they take everything so seriously.

Weddings. I hate them. Having to buy clothes and use up a weekend pretending I care that you have crafted your own table decorations and done something unusual with a wooden ladder. I hate having to hang around waiting for you to have photos taken while we are all staving hungry and bored, bored, bored. Spending more money on a present or being asked for cash so I'm guilted into giving more than I can afford. Especially when we all know the marriage won't last as he's cheated on you loads of times but you are in denial. I hate the ridiculousness of it when you already have kids but you are spending a small fortune on cars and churches. And it's even worse if you have to be a bridesmaid or a moh, just send your salary straight over and buy a pig ugly dress you will never wear again. Just stop acting like a fucking princess. No one cares about your wedding.

claretblue79 · 01/06/2024 02:56

@Mermaid64 Nurses strikes were about more than pay (although they aren’t paid enough imo). They were also about safe staffing and the intolerable demands that have been put on the health service such as people being treated on corridors as there is nowhere else for them to go. Also describing Covid as merely an illness is incredibly ignorant. It was a deadly virus which killed thousands and had a massive impact on medical staff and of course society in general.

Yes, I agree with you. I think of pandas as kind of like the royal family — needlessly fetishised, anachronistic, undeserving of the attention lavished on them. Obviously they’re cuter, though.

lol. I love the anti-panda posts!

God yes. It seems so so many (I'd say couples, but it is so frequently overwhelmingly the bride) completely lose sight of what they are actually doing and why.
Celebrate your union with family and friends? Yes please.
Spend tens of thousands of pounds, force your guests to pay hundreds, dress codes, tears, tantrums, politics? Not for me.

Feeding ducks bread isn’t actually that harmful. It’s not very nutricious for them but it’s not the end of the world.

I used to feed them bread, until I read an article, a few years ago. If they get too much, they can get overweight and simultaneously malnourished, which can lead to horrible wing and leg deformities. There were pictures to show the conditions; they never recover from it.

As for pandas, they don't mate well in zoos, as the females don't get any say in their sexual partner. In the wild, females mate almost every breeding season; they roam around until they find Mr. Right.

The problem they face is a small population and dwindling habitat.

What other people are eating.

I'm sure your pancakes are lovely, Marjorie, but I don't need to see a photo of every single plate of food you consume.

This, and just about every other post my mum puts on Facebook. Virtue signaling, attention seeking nonsense.

SinnerBoy · 01/06/2024 03:04

Talent shows. I'm not interested in glitzy clothes and backdrops, nor the music, or spectacularly untalented saps being humiliated in front of the nation.

Ditto "reality" programmes. I've no interest in a bunch of talentless, attention seeking narcissists talking shite and stabbing one another in the back

I know. It’s all crap. These days my heart sinks when I get a wedding invitation

HelpMeGetThrough · 01/06/2024 03:16

Climate change, I'm going to long gone, so zero shits given.

Recycling, nothing more satisfying than fucking off a plastic milk bottle or cardboard wrapper into the bin.

mjf981 · 01/06/2024 03:23

Pronouns. I'll call you what you look like and I don't care if it offends you. The whole thing is a load of attention seeking bollocks.

Magentaplasticglasses · 01/06/2024 03:24

-Other people's pets, animals in general. I'm not an animal hater, but I have no interest in playing with them or stroking them. Lots of people act as if my indifference is as bad a harming an animal.

-UPFs. What happened to everything in moderation?

JennyWren87 · 01/06/2024 03:35

Women's sports. I don't really care about any sport much but even less about women's sport.

Coaster99 · 01/06/2024 03:36

I don’t care about…

Trans stuff…it’s their business

Politics….eh, so boring

Religion….crazy make believe rubbish, ignore

Wars…there’s always one going on somewhere & they’re horrible, ignore

Female sports….watching blokes is so much better

Recycling….I do my bit out of habit but I know where it all ends up

Climate issues….I just dress and behave appropriately for whatever comes

This might come as a shock to you but women don't only do things to appear more attractive to men 😂

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/06/2024 04:30

Having a bit of peach fuzz on the sides of my face. Apparently you should shave it off now so that your make up looks "flawless" 🤔

Eating protein at every meal. Nope. One of my favourite lunches is simply toast, butter and marmite. I'm not going to add a random can of tuna or hard boiled egg to that thanks.

Government guidelines on alcohol. 14 units a week is a made up figure.

I do give a shit about the environment and landfill and do my best to live a green life. But that doesn't extend to washing my clothes and bedding at 30 degrees I'm afraid. It's minimum 40 here, bedding and towels at 60.

Thepossibility · 01/06/2024 05:03

I also don't give a fuck about sport. Why would I waste my precious time watching people I don't know do their exercise? Maybe my own kids, but people I don't know?
And the people that get grumpy and sometimes abusive over a team of people who have nothing to do with them? Ridiculous.

I don’t care about men in women’s toilets

Do you really not care about this? Men in women’s bathrooms and prisons from one minute in is why I do care about this, very much.

Do you really think they only want to pee?
