You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

@BrickTraybake we have a duck pond down the road from us so during the pandemic we went regularly and I read Tinned peas were good for the ducks.
I told my wee lads and they were excited to feed them something different. It really is up the road from us so I let them run ahead, still in sight and I'd (stupidly) told my youngest we were feeding the ducks a "tin of peas", and watched as his older brother had to catch like saving a football at the world Cup a tin of peas being hurtled towards a unsuspecting mallard.
My little boy is autistic and took it so literally he didn't think he needed to wait for me to come and open the tin for him.
He just thought feeding them a tin of peas included the bloody tin 🙈

It's still a conversation in our home, "remember when little fella almost took out the duck with a tin of marrowfat?"

Also as a teenager I travelled a lot by train and in my then local station was a rat who everyone knew. He was massive and had no drama approaching the public for food. The station bins were plastic bags, the see through kind (I believe due to potential terror attacks) and this rat would chew through the bottom of the bags and retrieve burgers etc, I saw him once eat with both hands half of a big mac. I was chatty with the ticket lady who told me that sometimes people would bring him sausage rolls 😂
I had some of my friends over to mine (aged 18ish) for a few drinks before we went out into town and before we left I took a few cherry tomatoes and galaxy ripple for the rat so if he was out my pals could feed him. He wasn't there but I gave them to the ticket office who said he'd feed him them later, but he'd earlier ran off with a donner kebab so it would probably be tomorrow he'd be back 😂
I often wonder how old he lived to, he was so chunky his heart must have packed in at some point, all the stuff he ate.

Whether humanity goes extinct or not. In many ways it would be the best thing that could happen to the planet although I have my doubts it'll happen fast enough for most other species to survive, let alone thrive.

I reckon the raccoons, octopi and ravens might be next to be in charge and I don't see how they could be worse than we are.

Geesejuggler · 01/06/2024 05:39

Although until this thread I didn't really have much of an opinion on ducks as the next potential dominant species.

grinandslothit · 01/06/2024 05:41

I don't give a shit about any type of sport, babies and children in general, reality TV and other type of gossipy TV, anything men say.

NattyTurtle · 01/06/2024 05:49

Beautifulbythebay · 31/05/2024 22:55

Killing ducks doesn't faze you then?

Get over yourself! I've been feeding the same duck on our local pond for around six years, and he's in fine form. I rarely see dead ducks lying around, and people are always feeding them bread.

According to a local bird expert it is only bad if bread is their only food source, which is not the case in a large park.

I don’t care about men in women’s toilets

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! R u for real? I certainly don’t want a grown bloody man or old man in a toilet my 5 year daughter is using

Simplepink · 01/06/2024 05:55

I genuinely don’t care about other people shoplifting from massive supermarkets - take what you want whether you’re desperate or just like the thrill

Fairyliz · 01/06/2024 05:55

The election; different people same shit.
I’ve said this before but I’m old and the things that have really affected me in life have nothing to do with which party was in power.

thecrispfiend · 31/05/2024 23:43

Having a "career". Give my best at work but I am hapoy with a job which doesn't take up too much headspace and finishes when I clock off, not interested in promotion.

Yep, I was the same back in my working days. Couldn't even think of anything I was passionate enough about to want a "career" in. I do the work, I get paid, I walk out the door and forget about the place until I walk back in the next morning. Started as an office junior, finished as a receptionist - fine by me.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/06/2024 05:56

This thread is quackers. 🤣🤣

MyWhoHa · 01/06/2024 05:56

@ReggaetonLente
Agree wholeheartedly about pandas. Any animal that has such a small timeframe for breeding is at an evolutionary dead end and is going to go extinct. These breeding programmes are trying to prolong the inevitable.

GymBergerac · 01/06/2024 05:56

Not going to get into an argument about ducks and bread. Bread just isn't good for ducks, but they do like it.....

Things I don't care about
Make up and fashion
Football

But then I also don't care if other people like the things I don't care about.... 😂

HappyGoLucky96 · 01/06/2024 05:58

theeyeofdoe · 31/05/2024 23:06

Who wins any football match ever, even if it is England/Scotland/women.
I don’t care about some people kicking a ball around.

I do ….. 😳
C’mon Scotland 💙💙💙💙💙💙

MyWhoHa · 01/06/2024 05:58

I don't really care about cooing over other people's babies. My own family yes but anyone else, no thankyou.

HappyGoLucky96 · 01/06/2024 06:00

PeonyAndBlushSuede · 01/06/2024 00:04

The royal family.

Abolish the monarchy. They don’t deserve to live in palaces and have all that wealth whilst there are homeless veterans and vulnerable mentally ill people living on the streets.

Go you well said 🩷

scalt · 01/06/2024 06:01

This thread is a perfect demonstration of how the first reply or two determines the direction. The OP meant it as a fun thread, but someone pounced on it (like a duck on bread) and turned it into a morality fable that Aesop would be proud of. 😄Moral: choose carefully your light-hearted topic.

In my local park, there's a sign telling you not to feed ducks because it attracts rats; the sign has some cartoon rats. Someone had written on one of them "But they are so cute!".

As for something I don't care about: I don't wear invisible socks, I wear trainers on my bare feet; I like the way it feels, and I don't care if it makes my toes fall off!

Mumof2girls2121 · 01/06/2024 06:01

The Royal family as a Brit should we care? They just seem irrelevant and spoilt now QE2 has died.

Also I feed bread to ducks, fresh bread not mouldy.

Letsgotitans · 01/06/2024 06:08

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 31/05/2024 23:04

Ok here goes.
Other people’s children and pets.
I’m really not interested in your (none cute) dog. Neither your (very none cute) baby.

Yes, I'm starting to find other people's children very annoying!! We are taking a term time holiday to try and avoid as many children as possible 🙊

Floorbard · 01/06/2024 06:14

The sensationalised nonsense that makes people frightened of trans women. Get a life! The only perverts here are the ones obsessed with strangers’ genitals, and what toilets they might be using.

username47985 · 01/06/2024 06:14

The school pta.

I know they are trying to help the children, but the ridiculous amount of fundraising has turned me the other way.

Bananasplitz97 · 01/06/2024 06:15

My appearance. I know I should but I just can’t be arsed! Gym clothes and ponytails!!

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 06:15

RaverQuavers · 31/05/2024 23:00

I don’t care about men in women’s toilets

Now how did we guess this is the first thing you would say…..

DancelikeFredAstaire · 01/06/2024 06:16

The National Anthem. I'm an atheist and anti-monarchy so it means nothing to me.
Owning my own home
The OW being invited to DD's wedding.....apparently I'm supposed to be "outraged" but in reality I couldn't care less.

Mrsdyna · 01/06/2024 06:20

I don't recycle rubbish.

I don't care if you try to use words to shame me into "behaving" it seems to be Mumsnetters' favourite tactic and I don't know why they think it works.

Take you, the OP. "I feed ducks bread" reply, "so you're happy killing ducks then" I mean it's laughable and pathetic. It's like I read conversations from dense, angry teens, not adults.

TulipCat · 01/06/2024 06:26

I couldn't care less about Prince Harry and his feelz. Be a royal or don't, but stop telling us you want privacy, but then write a book and go on Oprah.
